Whats wrong with making music for video games?

Be sure to enjoy a drummer who can only hit the bass and snare drums and bassist who can't keep up with his fingers.

Neither of those reflect badly on the music. Cymbals aren't nice in my opinion. Good in Doom and slow music.
But for drums the bass and snare is where its all at.

And Dave sounded like fucking chipmunk on Tornado of Souls.

I like it :).

And killing is their business :P.

I'm just pointing out that Lars was more techincal than Gar Samuelson and Nick Menza

:S.

I'll accept your opinion there, but Mustaine didn't even intend to be the singer. He only became the vocalist because he couldn't find one after six months. I prefer Hetfield's voice because it's more masculine sounding.

I couldn't say why I like Mustaine as a vocalist, maybe its just because I find it interesting (thats my excuse for pretty much everything I listen to). Its different and a bit unconventional but it just seems to work.
Like he's not singing because he's right for the role, but because he's pissed off and wants to just sing... which sounds like some kind of musical plot, but whatever.

Also I've had too many debates on YouTube and it's nice to be involved in one where a curse or insult isn't thrown out every second :P

Mustaine's voice reminds me of Steve Albini. And I'm a pretty big fan of Steve Albini :)

Metallica all out sucks...both new and old, period. Master of puppets is decent, and it's influence on metal = undeniable, but it was still massively overrated and the rest of their music sucks ass.

Megadeth = Greatly overrated as well, but a lot better. Countdown to extinction, Rust in Peace and Youthanasia were all great albums in my opinion. The rest of their stuff is decent I guess.

At 2/28/09 09:33 PM, Nev wrote: Whats wrong with making music for video games?

Speaking of metal bands making music for video games...

Blind Guardian's past few years:

2006 - Recording and releasing "A twist in the mist"
2007 - World tour
2008 + the current 2009 + the rest of 2009 + First half of 2010 = No one know. :(
Second half of 2010 = Recording and releasing new album.
2011 = World tour.

I've heardQUITE a few rumors that Blind Guardian has spent all of 2008, 2009 so far and the rest of 2009 writing + recording music for a some medieval-like RPG game set to be released in Japan + North America + Europe + Australlia all in early 2010.

Have you guys heard anything about this?

Blind Guardian making the music for a medieval time period video game = Purely epic, unless the game itself sucks.

Also:

EQUILIBRIUM - Blut Im Auge

I liked it, even if most people thought it wasn't one of their better albums.

And where's Peace Sells But Who's Buying?

Crap I forgot that one, add that to my list of great megadeth albums.

Also what's to hate about Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, and And Justice for All?

I don't hate any of megadeth's albums, the rest other than the four I highlighted are all decent or good, but not great.

I didn't read what albums you said, I thought you were just listing other megadeth albums.

I don't know about that but I do remember reading some article about how each member of the band was going to be their own character in an RPG. The rumor could explain why. Speaking of metal in games the expansion to GTA that recently came out has Bathory on the radio. I shat my pants.

Woah, that is something to shit oneself over. Also, Judas Priest was in Scarface on the radio, that was pretty cool.

Don't forget the many songs that are in all the GH games.

Are they going to be like cameo extras or are they going to be the main characters?

If the members of Blind Guardian are the four main characters for a RPG video game taking place in the Middle ages, and that video game doesn't suck and is actually good when it comes to gameplay, graphics, Difficulty, etc. and they wrote and recorded the entire musical soundtrack to the game themselves + Maybe a guest keyboardist then that game would easily be the best game in fucking existence.

Besides Dragonforce, Metallica, Maiden and sabbath, what metal bands have been in any guitar hero games?

I PMed them recommending them to play at the New England metal + Hardcore festival with the many poser bands and few gems like Municipal waste and The Haunting telling them they would kickass their and totally dominate.

They replied to me two minutes later thanking me for all my support and saying that they wouldn't be able to do it this year, but they would defiantly play there next year.

And then they thanked me a ton for saying they are like a combination of Megadeth, Darkane, Mantic Ritual and Warbringer.

Just a generalization, seeing as i have only played Iron Man, and didn't bother to study the list of songs you could play. Good question though.

Woah guys, Metalica vs Megadeth debates? =x

=============

So anyway Soundwave was absolutely awesome! Got to meet In Flames and got a group shot with them and some of my friends :D

DevilDriver did their signature gigantic Circle Pit which was extremely fun.
They got the crowd to do a moment silence for the Bushfire disaster too which was pretty nice of them. Played it well into their set too.

Lamb of God performed perfectly a got the whole place going like crazy. Ending with a Wall of Death.

Overall it was a fun day.

Speaking of shows I just got back from a not bad one. Too Great bands, two shit bands. Acantha + Obsidius = Amazing. Other two = Blech. Scene kids everywhere and kids hardcore dancing while First church was playing so I just went and helped Acantha pack up their equipment and chatted with the band for the rest of the night. If any of you can, you have to check Acantha out. Amazing music. Really cool guys.

No more Megadeth vs Metallica debates, Megadeth is obviously better, there´s no need to discuss about it.

Deliverance, yes.

Since I'm curious, what makes it bad?

Damnation is a great album, just really mellow and relaxing Prog Rock. Nothing remotely Metal about the album. Just image all the clean bits of Opeth without the Metal bands ever coming in.

Ah, I do enjoy the mellow parts of Opeth, but an album without the metal elements? I'll have to give it a listen to sometime and decide whether I like it or not.

Nope, just no.

Why is Megadeth classified as SPEED METAL and why isn't "Rust in Peace" considered the bets trash metal album of all time???

That chart is WRONG!

I'm glad I don't even use Rateyourmusic that often, except for updating my album list. However, their ratings give me a better idea than MA on whether the album is worth getting or not.

The only game I know they've contributed to is Sacred 2, which was released last year. Anything else, I don't know.

I've stated this a thousand times, and I'll state it again.

Risk is the worst album in the history of musical recording.

It is the most diabolically commercial piece of garbage ever released by any band that has ever been considered even remotely 'Rock'.

It's an insult to Metal, Rock, Pop, and Techno, all in one.

I'm not too crazy about anything after Rust In Peace anyway.

You like Prog Rock so I don't see why the no Metal thing would be a problem to you. It is a Prog Rock album in every sense of the word. Steven Wilson was on it and produced I think.

No.

No.No.No.No.No.No.No.

The only song on Risk that marginally qualified as music was Prince of Darkness, which is also the only song that doesn't physically make my head hurt.

It's worse than St. Anger, Roots and The Unspoken King combined.

Load and ReLoad actually had some redeemable qualities. And at least they were alright-ish Hard Rock albums.

But, I suppose we're going to have to agree to disagree.

I'd have to agree with Bluey on this one.
