My first metal bands were Pantera, Megadeth, and Fear Factory. What really started turning me into a metalhead and away from -core stuff were Dream Theater, Symphony X, and Helloween. I may be neglecting to mention some bands.

the Gorguts album or the German prog death metal band? cuz I sure do like the German prog death metal band.

I agree with all of these (though Octavarium wasn't excellent, it was still good). Also, a Change of Seasons.

I think Images and Words is one of the best albums of all time.

You know what sucks? I used to love Sonata Arctica, and my sister stole my music style a while ago, and she took a few of their songs...And the next day she knew everything about them, I know it's childish, but it was my fucking band. Even some of her mates like them now. I just have trouble taking SA seriously anymore, and everyone bitching about Jani is pissing me off, he wasn't that good. Tony makes the band not him, so stfu.

Heres the kicker, she's twelve.

I need them to tour fucking now to get my love back.

I suggest lurking more and trying to join sometime in the future after you've learned a bit about metal. Only half of the artists you listed are metal, and they're all, as ElGhoulio would put it, "false-positives". I doubt you'd have much to discuss here now, but if you want band recommendations, some of us may be willing to help you there. Also, try the Metal Archives (Encyclopaedia Metallum) to get a better grasp of the genre of metal. If you enter a band name in the search and it doesn't come up, it probably isn't metal.

So apparently Taste of Chaos is pulling some sort of shenanigans by making their second stage loads better than their first

IMO

"And we have to agree. Mayhem Part Deux boasts a Hot Topic Stage manned by Whitechapel, Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy, Behemoth, and Cannibal Corpse, and a Jägermeister Stage with God Forbid, All That Remains, and Trivium.

Add a Main Stage featuring Bullet for My Valentine, Slayer, and Marilyn Manson, and this looks to be a sequel of Godfather II proportions. In fact, you could say that Lyman has made us a fest that we can't refuse. "

I look at it like alcohol. Back in the day when you were 11 or 12, you would have a drink of beer and spit it out, thinking it tasted horrible, and stick to drinking your coke. Later on in life, 13-15, depending on your cultural background/tastes, a glass of wine would go down slowly, but still with that bad taste in your mouth, which you would wash away with your coke. 15-17, your tastes open, you can down a 6 pack of beer, straight scotch, scotch and cokes, and still hold yourself together. 18-whenever, you're able to take on a bottle of Absinthe and still have half a liver left.

I must say, they're one of the best recent bands to come out. Plus, their concept albums are always about the best stuff. I mean, Moby Dick (whales are awesome), random mythological creatures, and now Rasputin.

No, Brann Dailor's sister, Skye, committed suicide when she was 15, and the title is a tribute to her.

Honestly? I was a huge punk, pop and pop punk fan until I came across Blind Guardian and sonata arctica by complete accident when I was like 10.

Then about year of loving there music just thinking they were really hard rock or something I looked them up online and found out they were power metal. From there I looked into stratovarius as they were the first band recommended on that site.

And it just sort of escalated from there.
