Maybe I'm really drunk right now, but goddamn, a bed quilt with the Twilight of the Thunder God cover? That is so GODDAMN EPIC! That is really nice smeagol! :D

In other news, along with those CDs I ordered, I also bought Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse today from Zavvi. Despite them not accepting my gift voucher due to administration problems, I bought the album anyway for £7 and my thoughts? It sounds incredible when I'm drunk! :D

Oh, and Tri-Nitro-Toluene, the only other Elvenking tracks I have are the ones from the demo, which I enjoy a lot. :D I'm willing to get more Elvenking in the future, however.

please forgive any typos you may come across here due to my drunkess

If you want some more Elvenking get Wyrd. Their best album in my mind. The Scythe is quite good, but is less folky than the others, with more emphasis on straight power metal.

Well. I recorded a 14 minute long drone doom track. Just bass/vox to do, which I will do tomorrow. The thing is, I want all you cunts to hear it, because it's the most professional and amazing things I've ever done. The thing is. It's 14 minutes long. Will any of you download it if I uploaded it?

I'll happily give it a listen if you upload it. 14 minutes isn't that long really.

Despite the lack of metal shirts (it's OK, I didn't get any metal shirts either for Christmas), that's still a cool Viking shirt. :)

I'll be getting Wyrd sometime after I've given Heathenreel a good listen to. :) And The Scythe, I'm not too sure on that album. I listened to some of the tracks on the album and wasn't so keen on it. It wasn't the sort of stuff I expected from them.

That's quite funny to say since I still think tracks lasting around 15 minutes are rather long (but still happy to listen to them), but of course, they're not as big as they were to me 3 years ago when I hardly knew any 10+ minute tracks. Heck, I remember years ago when I thought 5 minutes was long. Now I just laugh at myself for even thinking that ages ago.

*sigh*

'Tis a sad day when I am listening to Metalcore out of choice rather than having it forced upon me by some shitty music channel.

'Tis an even sadder day when I actually like it.

I have been somewhat partial to Metalcore in the past, admitting to liking Trivium's earlier efforts and some In Flames and not finding Parkway Drive totally and utterly repulsive if only for their eccessive use of blastbeats and having been enduring indie shit all day when I first listened to them.

So, yeah, As I Lay Dying.

I first saw them in an ad for Rockworld TV. They had the telltale signs of Metalcore; stop-start, chugga chugga riffs and a long haired vocalist utilising pseudo Death Growls as his primary singing style.

My curiosity was peaked, though, as they seemed Metal enough from that 15 second long clip or so.

Listening to the title track from their latest album, An Ocean Between Us, I was pleasantly surprised. It was as Metal as Metalcore got, while still being blatantly Metalcore. The song structure was complex (enough), the vocals were good (enough), and the musicianship as a whole was not that bad.

Although, I had one concern. The "Out of place, overly melodic chorus" as I like to call it. Breaking the flow of the otherwise aggressive song and reducing it to a pile of shit.

My fears were confirmed about 2 and a half minutes in.

However, I had realised something startling at this moment.

I did not care.

Save for that atrocious chorus, the song was not all that bad.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I may have found some Metalcore that actually appeals to me.

Should I seek professional help?
