I have ordered Wintersun's self-titled album about 3 months ago... and I still haven't heard any news of it yet.

vai joined zappas band during the late 70's or early 80's, cant remember exactly. he was basically vai's mentor during that time. he's said in interviews that it improved his playing more than anyone else he'd worked with.
RZZZZZZ
got more albums
dot(.) - RAWHEAVYGREEN
dot(.) - Smoking
dot(.) - dot(.)
This is Past - Ugly Music
This is Past - Alice in Uglyland
dot(.) is pretty good stoner/sludge. I haven't yet listened to the This is Past albums, though. I just know it's supposed to be some kind of experimental black metal.

I'd go for something like Charlie Zeleny or Max Duhamel.

Id say Hellhammer.
I'd also say Hellhammer. And Bobby Jarzombek, Mike Portnoy, and Charle Zeleny. As for non-metal, Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, Neal Peart, and Danny Carey.

Neil, that is. I got the spelling of his name mixed up with that of Neal Morse.
Hey guys, I know I may sound noobish, but I don't really know all the drummers you have named (or even guitarists)
I have to say that I rarely go and check the name of all the members of a band, so most of the time I don't know the guys you are talking about.
So, em, if you want to be really kind, could you just name the guy and the band he's playing in, so I can learn a little more about those bands :)
thanks a lot boys.

Hellhammer has been in a lot of bands in the Norweign Black Metal/Avant-Garde scene. Arcturus, Age of Silence (bands I like), and stuff like Mayhem, Immortal and lots of other stuff I don't particularly know much about.
Bobby Jarzombek who Sensey mentioned in is Spastic Ink with brother Ron, who I mentioned for guitarists.
Charlie Zeleny is in Behold... The Arctopus and Blotted Science (another Ron Jarzombek band).
Mike Portnoy is Dream Theater's drummer and arguably the most famous of good Metal drummers.
Max Duhamel is from Kataklysm.

meh, from what I heard, Mayhem and Immortal really aren't the kind of music I like.

Jarzombek brothers em?
ok, what kind of music are they playing?
Mike Portnoy is Dream Theater's drummer and arguably the most famous of good Metal drummers.
Max Duhamel is from Kataklysm.
I already knew about those two, but thanks anyway.
Thanks Nev.

Spastic Ink are really cool. Like Prog Metal mixed with bits of Jazzy, Funky and all sorts. Check them on last.fm, lots of full tracks on there :).
Spastic Ink
Blotted Science are Tech Death.
Best drummer in the world would have to be Lar-
No seriously, in my opinion, Shaun Drover, and Tommas Haake are my favorites.

And Menza > Drover!

AWESOME GUITARIST.
Indeed, but there are better. And he is incapable of linking riffs together. Every song has about 10 stop-starts.

I really do like Megadeth and all the stuff they recorded during their Thrash Metal years,
but my favorite drum is and probably will always be Vitek, for Winds of Creation with the band Decapitated.
(Rest in Peace Vitek)
as long as we're talking about drummers, Inferno, of Behemoth, is pretty good. Not the best, but he's good.

Kerry King?

I was going to say Garm but the guy on the right in the Grand Magus pic wins.

probably the singer of Amon Amarth or the bassist of Nightwish.
so, best vocalists...
Garm
Vintersorg
James Labrie
Geoff Tate
Vortex (I'm basing this one solely on his guest vocals for the Chaos Path by Arcturus, which is among the best vocal performances I've ever heard)
best non-metal vocalists...
Greg Lake
Maynard
Ian Gillan (listen to Child in Time by Deep Purple. holy shit)

Actually, that shouldn't be under "non-metal" seeing how Deep Purple's heavy metal/hard rock and he was briefly in Black Sabbath. whatever.
