Introduced me to the band Zero Hour today. Amazing stuff. Reminds me of Nevermore a little.

Did do much for me.
I dislike Nevermore though :P.

Gamma Ray's Somewhere Out in Space came today. So far, I'm not finding it as great as Land of the Free or Powerplant, but I'll still give it a chance. Also, I noticed Rokuro had all his posts deleted again. :(

I have to agree with you, they're not as epic as I expected them to be, but not bad anyway.

And Manowar I completely forgot about. But they're epic in a different way... an oiled up, leather thong way.

lol, Manowar. Yes, I declare them as epic, especially Battle Hymn.

Response to Metal Hell 2008-10-21 08:15:39

Manowar is damn epic.
Just listen to this.
Sometimes though they´re so over the top that its hilarious.

Response to Metal Hell 2008-10-21 09:00:38

Manowar is the type of power metal I listen to when I want a good laugh.

Not because their lyrics are silly (though they are) but they way they sing them. Can't help but chuckle.

Also I'll try to post here more often.

Even the most well-respected high-pitched singers can be laughable at times.

You're joking about ZP right?
Because it's not a very funny joke.

As for Bruce Dickinson, well... damn you got me there.

And for those who bring up Rob Halford I can't help but laugh every time I hear "All Guns Blazing"

ZP sucks.

I can think of a few falsetto vocalists who do it brilliantly:
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Cedric Bixlar-Zavala (The Mars Volta) to name a few.

In terms of Metal I love Chuck's falsetto.

If we're not talking Metal then Geddy Lee is a great falsetto along with Jon Anderson (Yes).

I wouldn´t classify Manowar as power metal.

Therfore, he is cereal.

Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers

Their lyrics do sound like power metal, but compare the music with something like Helloween or Blind Guardian and its nothing alike.

I think lyrics make Power Metal, unless you're like Nightwish and symphonic most PM bands are just Speed/Thrash/Heavy but with a cheesey subject matter.
Manowar are a Heavy Metal band that sing about cheesey stuff. I wouldn't say they're as Power as BG and Helloween and such, but they have their foot in the door.

Matt Bellamy
i personally don't find the singer of Sigur Ros laughable, but it'd be easy to laugh at him. He's got a ridiculous range.

If somebody sends me the money i'll go. :P

FOR ALL THE AMERICANS IN THE CLUB WITH VH1 ON YOUR TV:

Last night on VH1 their was like an hour special about the history of metal.
Then afterwords was headbangers with a bunch of music videos like cannibal corpse, Pantera, Ozzy Ozborn and Avenged Sevenfold.
And during the commericals it was talking about tune in saturday for an inside scoop on Metallica's new album.

....What the fuck? Since when has VH1 been metal?

I'm so confused.

Make war, not love.

Same here, I prefer to listen to the actual albums rather than a selection of songs from several albums a band has made. My only exception to this are Queen's Greatest Hits albums.
