They're only power, progressive and symphonic.

I wouldn't call them speed, technical, thrash or heavy.

Although yeah, they are one of my favorite bands.

Not calling them technical is fucking ridiculous... have you actually ever listened to Romeo's guitar work? If thats not technical then bands who are have got their work cut out.

And yadda, yadda, there is probably Thrash/Heavy influences in there too.

I'm not an expert or anything, so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't power kind of imply more..."singing" vocals, whereas most other genres of metal are generally less audible.

S&Box, the game Facepunch Studio have been working on.

Of course.

I don't really consider them technical except for a few songs in twilight in Olympus.

There are thrash and heavy influences in nearly all metal.

Power implies cheese. Thats all really. It's not that they sing more, they go higher so it cuts through more than a really low growl.

At 10/22/08 02:42 PM, AniMetal wrote: For bands like Blind Guardian I agree but bands like Helloween I disagree.

Well Helloween have a more Heavy, Maiden-esque influence. So it's still relevant as you listed Heavy too :P.
But Symphony X do all that.

I don't really consider them technical except for a few songs in twilight in Olympus.

Surely Technical is basically just a translation of "really hard to play". I think Romeo manages that.

I saw the following concerts these past few months:
Nightwish + Sonata arctica on August 30th.
Opeth + High on Fire on September 19th.
Helloween + Gamma Ray on September 20th
Iced Earth + Saviors + Into Eternity on October 15th.
Amon Amarth among various other bands on October 18th.

Future concerts I plan on going to:
Symphony X in November
Dragonforce and Turisas in November just for giggles and to see how bad DF are live personally. (Plus I sort of like the latter band.)
In Flames in December.
Rotting Christ in January.

Also i'm planning on making a concert review club later this week, you should totally all join when it is made.

Surprisingly, it wasn't as good as I hoped.

I have to be honest, I enjoyed High on fire more than Opeth live.

Oh well, mabye it was because I was dead tired and it was 2 in the morning....or perhaps the band was having an off day, or both.

Oh well.

So far the best concert i've ever went to was the Helloween and Gamma ray one, what about you guys?

So i went out after my exam to go cd shopping, i was about to pick up Meshuggah's obZen, but i saw AC/DC's new album so i got that instead. Forgive me.

obZen was overpriced as a motherfucker, im not paying $37 for it. Also i know another place i can get it cheaper.

Oh and metal news, i need to re-find the myspace but this chick i know, her brother went to school with guys from this pretty cool Death Metal band, so ill be sure to put that through here.

In terms of Metal, the only concert i've been to so far, The Black Crusade (Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Trivium).

Otherwise i can't pick between Foo Fighters or Black Crusade, they were both fucking epic pants.
