Their debut has production that can only be compared to Ulver's "Nattens Madrigal". Download a few songs off of their website. You will know what I mean. It is really rusty and high pitched, way rawer than Deathcrush.

Hell, to some extent, some of my stuff is rawer than deathcrush. Deathcrush just sounds like an apartment band muddle with squealing guitars and bassy drums.

But basically, Deathcrush has rather clean production. All of the instruments are easy to pick out of the mix, there's no organic noise or reverb, and the guitars are rather warm. The only thing is that the inability of the players is noticeable.

I'd go as far as to say that COF's debut, The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh in 1994 was rawer than deathcrush. Sure, the COF bandmembers were more skilled than Mayhem's at the time of their respective debuts, but COF has a more garage production. Same with Emperor with "Wrath of The Tyrant".

Yeah, Wrath of The Tyrant is very raw. I'm listening to "Night of the Graveless Souls" right now. Only the classical instrumentalisation really sticks out of the mess.

I'll check out the Borknagar songs, I'd love to hear them :)

Use a file converter. Usually you can lower the bitrate down to 32 or so without compromising quality too much. I use 32 or 64 kbps for most of my songs I submit to NG. You can usually download one by googling it. That's how I got my last 3 file converters, by taking advantage of the whole "Trial usage period" of most of the converters. If it doesn't have a bitrate meter somewhere in the options section, don't use it.

haha. My stuff I have total control of the production. I use a $200 dollar US-122 for all my recording. You might want to find that, Tascam makes it, and you have a lot of control over your sound, as it comes with software that has a virtual mixer and equalizer, plus some effects. That's how I get such a wide range of sounds out of my music, which you can find here.

Children Of Bodom are highly over-rated in my opinion. I'll admit I was a fan at one stage and I don't mind them now but they seem over hyped.

Meh. They got the hatred, and they got the heaviness. So what if their not tr00 black metal. The genre needs fresh ideas and out of the box thinking if it is going to survive.

Yes, a lot of metal bands have the hatred, but few black metal bands take the approach COB does. As far as the guitars go, they are miles different than most black metal bands. Instead of overwashed distortion and screeching gain, they prefer to lower the gain and replace it with sheer force. They really bang the strings. As far as their songs go, they are basically progressive black metal. They are doing something different, and yes, so are Mayhem, but the two are going in completely different directions, so yeah.

I think they are overrated, too. I liked them a lot too in the past, but they are just so damn repetitive, too many guitar solos sound the same, Alexi can't sing nor scream in a good way.

They don't have to be on mtv, or known to a very large crowd to be overrated, don't get me wrong, Children of Bodom is great, they are one of my favorite speed metal bands, but they are a little overrated in the emtal community, not NEARLY as overrated as bands like Metallica or Slipknot, but still a little overrated.

I don't like Pop Music but Grim T your right the vocal is bad, I never understand it.
