Go to www.blackmetalradio.com and you will see what I mean. Behemoth lacks power in the sense that fast drumming and grinding guitars don't equal energy and power. If that were the case, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas would be brimming with energy and power. Which it's not. And secondly, I (and apparently Wryan too) find Behemoth to be generic B/DM. Like Mayhem, you can hear one of their songs and you know its Mayhem. Dissection you can hear one of their songs and you know it's Dissection. Sepultura you can hear one of their songs and you know it's Sepultura. Behemoth? I've heard Behemoth for 6 months now and I still don't know what their signature sound is. At least Blasphemer and Euronymous had signature guitar sounds. At least Frederik Thorendal and Martin Hagstrom of Meshuggah have a signature sound. But Behemoth, to me, is all speed and no fire. It's like a dog thumping the ground while he's scratching behind his ears. That is at roughly the same speeds as Behemoth songs, but that doesn't mean he has energy or not. I can drum most of Behemoth's songs, yet I am not a good drummer. Summary: Power does not equal speed.
Look, for example, I'm not a fan of Mayhem, even though Euronymous was great(so was Dead). De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is not a bad album to me, but I fail to see the great power behind it. It's weird that you think that Behemoth is like what you say. I can recognize Nergal's voice immediately. It's outstanding and I haven't heard anyone that sounds like him. The drumming? Not powerful? I actually think that the drumming, for example, in "Conquer Al" is extremely powerful and technical. I don't just care for the speed, there should be more, and I get what I want from their drummer "Inferno".
Sure, I recognize Dissection immediately when I hear it, but the same applies to Behemoth, in my case.
Well, but that's all just opinion :)
