I know we've gone through this before, but really, I'll give everything a chance, but if there's something I really hate on the first listen (e.g. St. Anger), I won't bother listening to it again. But the rest, I'll give them at least 10 listens to just incase a certain album/song/artist eventually grows on me.

I only buy CDs if they're dirt cheap, and that's rare. The last time I went CD purchasing was a month ago at a used book sale. I somehow and unexpectedly stumbled upon The Sin War by Dies Irae (which I recommend) and bought it for just a dollar.

my town doesn't have anything metal.

all we have is a shitty metalcore/emo band that's changed it's name more times than I can remember. The name they had for the longest was "Synthetic Sorrow." Yes. You read that correctly. The only other name that I can remember was Shatter the Silence. All the members had stage names, and the lead singer was named "Ty Tragedy." As a joke (since my name is Carl) my friends and I, every once in a while, refer to me as Karl Komedy.

At 7/31/08 01:11 PM, Nev wrote: Why does Last.fm drive you nuts?

It changes my listening habits. It makes me listen to the music I want other people to see i'm listening to, rather than listning to what I really wanted. For example, Otyg I think are really great, but I had to cut down listening to them because they had a higher play count that Opeth, and I like Opeth more than Otyg.

Damnation owns.

Is Damnation the really soft album with Windowpane? That's not terrible. I don't like the vocals in the second song though they piss me off.

I'm sort of starting to dislike my own tastes in music, I mean they're so restricting. I just can't seem to enjoy what I want to enjoy.
The point is not to enjoy what you want to enjoy. But to enjoy what you enjoy. Forcing yourself to to listen to something or not to listen to something for any reason is pathetic.

I know, but I used to like thrash and prog and stuff and I still kind of do and it's really confusing!

The only reason I can think you're doing this is for some kind of social reputation... and thats sad.

See above.

At 7/31/08 04:04 PM, mavica wrote: also, penisclown's post made me ask this question: do you guys (and gals) still buy cd's, or other music media?

I'm burning all my shit to disc and wiping my computer clean. I'm taking a firm stance against illegal music downloads. Even though i've downloaded music illegally onto CD's.

Fucking hell.

Ok I guess my stance is more or less that I like CD's more than MP3's. So it's more of a preference than a stance. Right.

and another question: what's the max temperature on which it's safe to keep vinyl, before it's getting damaged? it's fucking hot out here...

Just not too hot really. Room temperature I guess is what it's made for. Being too cold I don't think is a problem. If it's getting to hot you may wana think about fans or air conditioning.

as far as I'm aware, the only metal made close to where I live, Is one guy who has a couple of projects/bands, all black or doom influenced stuff. Pretty good, usually, but since he rarely plays live (only once, with one band, a couple of weeks ago, and it took an hour and a half by train to get there:p)
there are some -core or punkrockbands around here, but nothing to spectacular.

Not that it really matters, anyway. the closest place that's good to use is 10km away, and they don't really have that many metal gigs there (got shining once, though). So for live shows are never really close.

I think what he means is that there's too much Metal, not enough Folk.
...Which is bullshit because both Cruachan and Waylander have songs that could be considered at least 'Folk until the half-way point then erupts into an almost Doom Metal affair with harsh vocals' and at most 'Plain old Folk.'

Brian Boru and Sunrise, for example.

I understand that.
The amount of tracks on an album is very imporant in these situations.
Like I've got quite a lot of Fantomas played recently, but its only about 5 worths.

30 tracks, some being about 40 seconds long.

Where as I've got about half as much Ricky Gervais played but with about a week of play time

Half an hour episodes.
Is Damnation the really soft album with Windowpane?

Yeah, its the clean album.
It's relaxing and soothing.

Yeah. The best folk metal is 80% folk, 20% black. Plain folk metal should be like 90% folk and 10% metal. New Cruachan and that other band i'm trying to remember.... It starts with an I..... Anyway, they're like 60% folk and 40% metal. That sucks.

Fine. But the album bores me a wee little bit. Still Life is their best. Dude, I know the exact order, it's

1. Still Life
2. My Arms, Your Hearse
3. Blackwater Park
4. Ghost Reveries
5. Damnation
6. Morningrise
7. Orchid
8. Deliverance

They're all great, but that's what I think. And I love Morningrise and Orchid, but they're just a little too much to take. 13 minute long songs aren't as easy to get into. I can't really place Watershed right now, I havn't listened to it enough, but at the moment it will probably take 5th just under Ghost Reveries. I'm not liking it that much. Especially that part when they start detuning the guitar at the end of one of the songs. That hurts my ears man, it's torture.

I disagree, they would both be about equal but I think the writing on Abigail earns it the creativity points it needs to be just a bit better. For some reason I feel some of the lyrics on Melissa to be a bit generic or contrived, and as a result some songs like Evil and Curse of the Pharaoh's which I admittedly love are a bit hard to listen too now. Whatever the problem was that I had with the writing on Melissa, it was apparently fixed on Don't Break the Oath because I have no problems with that record at all.
