Yeah, jazz is awesome studying music, seriously. Or classical, because it makes you seem and feel smarter and more sophisticated.

Everyone else listens to their shitty Hannah Montana and hippity hop music while I'm contemplating life while listening to some Stravinsky.

It's quite eloquent. Everytime I listen to jazz or classical I pick up a monocle and speak in a weird accent.

dude Stravinsky is bitchin hard. I'm currently playing Stravinsky's Three Pieces for Clarinet for my teacher. The third movement alternates between 2/4, 3/4, 3/8, 3/16, 5/8 and 5/16 at almost random intervals. Combine that with ridiculous rhythms made even more complicated by grace notes and you have the most ridiculously hard song I've ever been able to play.

Yeah, it sounds pretty hard. Paul Gilbert covers a lot of pretty awesome pieces like Haydn Symphony No. 88 Finale, English Suite No. 2 in A Minor by J.S. Bach, for example.

Bah! All this talk of Jazz and Classical angers me.

When I'm doing homework or studying, I listen to Nightwish.

hellz yeah. i was thinking of learning some of the rites of spring on the violin, but so far all i've bothered to do is learn the most memorable themes from it by ear. i did the same with holst's planet suite, just learn't the basic tunes and themes rather than the whole pieces. us folk/rock musicians can be lazy like that =P. baroque music is fun to learn, the variations you get, the allegro's or whatever are totally the same as metal solo's.
and true jazz is good study music except probably total free jazz or something agressive like naked city!) and actually pretty good stoner music too if youre a musician, especially mr 'trane
uhhh but just to keep on the subject of metal i jsut listened to the new melvins album on last.fm. interesting turn of affairs, its way more alt-rock and less sludgey metal than i expected, but still pretty damn good.

True that, dude. Fortunately I'm in the local Youth Orchestra, so I can play a lot of awesome music there. Also, my clarinet teacher loves playing Mozart's clarinet duets, and those are fantastic. In Youth Orchestra, we played Stravinsky's Firebird, and even though it was only the last two movements, it was fantastic.

A week or so ago I was posting here saying how i'm just realizing how epic Symphony X is....and since SOMEBODY is discussing dream theater every time I come here I have something to say.

I have noticed in just about every Symphony X video I have seen on youtube people are comparing it to dream theater, usually saying dream theater is better.

But you know what? I disagree, I generally like the type of music DT plays but I just don't really like that much compared to bands like symphony X, Stratovarius, sonata artica, etc, etc.

What is it about DT that makes them sooooo good in everybody's eyes? I like them, don't get me wrong, just I think their are so many better bands.

I don't know really. They have a few songs that I find to be fantastic and the rest is just meh. If they were consistently as good as the few songs that I liked they'd be one of my favorite bands.

I like to listen to Something really Fast and Pounding when I'm studying.

Nile, Anaal Nathrakh, Belphegor or Decrepit Birth, like a Wall of sound to completely block out everything else around me, So there's nothing else to do than Study.

Music that starts Crushing you, and doesn't stop until you're Grinded down to a powder.
I have lots of more artists like this to recommend, but that should give you a general outline of what I mean, and most people should already have those.

My mind is always focused and Calm anyway, and sharp like a Scalpel, I like classical as much as the Next guy, but I'd go completely mad if I were to calm down any more, I never really get pissed off, I just get Resentful and bitter, you could say.

I never snap or anything like that, I've been Desensitized beyond belief.

When I'm working, I like to listen to Techno, Trance, and All that, My work is so amazingly boring, I have to do anything to keep positive, I always slip into such Sheer boredom, like a really neutral state of mind, Sometimes I like to say disgusting things to people just to get a reaction.

I used to listen to Sleep Terror in the mornings before school, The sheer complexity just got me a kick start into being properly awake, Like you have to be so Alert to listen to it, So many notes just flying at you, it's awesome.

I constantly look for new music that makes me go "Holy shit", Like you get chills from the sheer epicness of it, Something as simple as that song "Those who cannot speak" by Shadows Fall used to do it for me, But now I listen to stuff like this, without any reaction <:'C

I think It's from learning a bit too much theory, Having heard songs that were too Brutal, Fast, Epic, Slow, Depressing, Catchy, or insane so I constantly have to Beat it Each time.

Pisses me off.

...And that's a little bit about me, Sorry for wall of crap.

All this talking about instruments made me remeber that when I was little I always wanted to play the flute. = 3

Speaking of which, are their any metal bands that have someone use a flute? Lol just wondering.

flute is for slutty girls, awkward girls, and gay dudes.

I think In Lingua Mortua has a song or two that has a flute. It depends on the type of flute you mean, though. I can't think of any bands beside In Lingua Mortua and Jethro Tull that use the orchestra flute, but many a folk band has folk flutes and tinwhistles.

K, k.

ALso I got sonata artica's newer CD "Deliverance" today, its very good and a lot longer than most albums.

It seemed a lot more violent and depressing than most of sonata articas work.
