So, Bodom was absolutely amazing!
I was about 3 metres from the front. Got owned in the mosh. It was probably the craziest mosh I've been in yet.

They put on a fantastic show. Alexi is one funny guy.

Near the end of the set they played Umbrella - Rihanna. In true Bodom cover style.

This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.

It really depends, There's no metal scene here, so I'll never have a musical Career here.

This is true. All the Icelandic bands I can think of off the top of my head are indie or some sub-genre thereof... Sigur Ros is the only Icelandic indie band that has a sound different from other indie bands. The other Icelandic indie bands, however, all sound like other western indie bands but indie kids shit themselves because "IT'S FROM ICELAND SO IT HAS TO BE DIFFERENT AND INDIE BECAUSE I'M SO PRETENTIOUS"

as much as i like indie, the culture can be (and is) ridiculous

You suspised wrong. I listened to it three times to give it a fair chance back when you first gave us the means to download it and then I took off doing whatever I was doing at the time. From what I can remember of it and I'll listen to it again right now to refresh my memory, obviously it was shit production on top of from what I could discern, competent and likeable music.

Everything is quiet as shit, the drums sound like a locomotive and the vocals are fine as long as you don't go too deep with them. I quite like the acoustic passage in Winter Spirit and then the badass riff that kicks in after it and when that riff does kick in even the drums seem to pick up and sound at least a little bit more tolerable then bam song ends.

Then there's Wolfheart. At the start the drums make it hard to hear the riff but when they slow down and you get adjusted to it you can hear it in the mix and it's actually quite nice. Not as varied as Winter Spirit but it's longer so it doesn't necessarily have to be though I still feel like somethings missing from it. I like it though. All in all it's not bad at all but the production almost makes it a pain to listen too.

I rented Viking: the Battle For Asgard from Gamefly. It's a mildly entertaining game so far, but I doubt I'' have the patience to finish playing it. It's kind of cool hearing references to Norse mythology and getting to go "hey, I know that!" but, of course, that's not nearly enough. It looks like the gameplay will get old pretty early. At least it's one more thing available here relating to Norse mythology/vikings. There's not a lot of that. For games, we have this and Rune: the Viking Warlord. I can't think of anything else. And for movies, we have Pathfinder, which was crap, Beowulf, which was okay, and the 13th Warrior, which I really like when I first saw it, but I haven't seen it in a while and I have a feeling my opinion on it would be different.

I wish I could get my hands on an English subtitled copy of Hrafninn Flýgur.
