You should still try to get deeper into newer metal(not nu-metal). I know the no solo thing is common in the shitty mainstream metal scene. But there are a lot of promising newer bands out there.

BTW, I just tried out Aborted and Decapitated and damn, they are awesome, especially Decapitated. Quite brutal, yet melody remains and it's awesome headbang material, damn, I love it. Anyone heard of these two bands?
