Points of concern:
binary_code is a fake! and a noob. A user has been caught exporting stock/demo files included with a popular audio tool. Apparently he's just been re-naming them and submitting them as his own. >:(

The Fifen' Crew. Users discuss the creation of a club or crew whose purpose would be to vote 5 on downrated music. Mass voting anyone? The topic has been locked but unofficial word has it that this 'crew' is going underground and will be formed in secret with or without the NG Mods blessings.

Spamwarriors usual rant. This time around it's (again) the discussion of how to deal with the hordes of n00bs that always ask the same three questions.

Zero voting is still a top concern of many AF users. The creation of a topic to specifically deal with this as well as the three or four other similar topics that passed last week is a good indicator that some users are very unhappy with the current voting system. The problem is that w typical audio submission may only get a few votes where any Flash submission will get a few hundred at the very least. This makes a zero very powerful in the AP. More exposure and more traffic should help but that remains to be seen.

With any luck, Co-Sec Rucklo and I will be ready to announce the NGDD audio competition next week. A topic will be created in the AF and details will be included there as well as in a post here.

We get a lot of users that join and never come back, because of this I say that for the first week someone is “under judgement” so that we can see if they post back at all. Do you think this is a good idea?

Everything is dead this week... Rucklo has some great ideas for a comp but I think we're both lacking the motivation to do anything at the moment. Apparently, he has a few obligations as do I - I'm overworked at the moment - been busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest for the last few weeks.

This thread is even more deserted than the AF is - and that's pretty bad - the entire Audio Forum has seemed like a ghost town for the past few days.

Could just be me though.

At the moment, the Audio Dept consists of only Rucklo and I ... and I haven't seen him around here lately...

I would talk to the AF to see if more peeps wanted to join up but for the most part they're a very pragmatic bunch. Most of them would probably not be interested, as there really doesn't seem to be much of a purpose - which brings me to this:

Is there a clearly defined purpose or mission posted anywhere for the NGDD?

I mean, for the last few weeks I've been posting Audio related stats but aside from that I'm having a hard time seeing any real point - aside from the gathering of data ...

Tedium without purpose is simply busywork - I'm wondering if we can find something additional along the way that could help tie everything together a bit more.

This is not simple negativity or unfounded criticism - this is a call to action - I'd like to challenge each of the dept. heads - myself included - to come up with a few ideas on how we can rally the NGDD together into a more powerful and purposeful club.

I think these suggestions should be included in NEXT weeks' reports - this should give everyone plenty of time to get their ideas straightened out.

If what I'm asking for already exists, then by all means someone clue me in.

i already have one so I will share it with you:

My idea is to create a promotion system. Each week each Department head would set his or her Department a task. People would complete this task and earn points on how well they did. At a certain interval of time the Department leaders would see who had the highest score and they would earn promotion.

Their is one problem with this, the amount of members and activity in the club. These both need a boost and before we integrate new ideas I think we should find someway of getting new members. I would like anyone to comment on the promotion idea and give ideas on how to attract new members.

We have a couple of new member's and Dave is going to be a bit inactive. We are running some competitions soon, the audio winner will get on the Audio Frontpage and the Flash winner on the actual Frontpage.

We are also looking for ways to get new members in and ways to make it better.

I haven´t been that active within this thread, but I have been working out some ideas for an audio competition. We´re (LJCoffee and I) are aiming quite high with this, and well, I feel about the same thing as LJ about this whole thing to be honest. What he said :D

Audio Dept. end of week report

New Audio Portal Submissions: 462 (down 165 from last week)

with the most new submissions to:
Techno and Hip Hop - Modern are tied for first place - both with 79 new submissions
Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous weighed in with 57 new tracks
Video Game had 44 new tunes
Trance came in 5th with 29 new submissions

Not exactly a record-breaking week for audio submissions...

There were 66 new topics created this week in the AF and 1003 new posts.

This week felt completely dead - as I wandered the streets of the AF, my only companions a tumbleweed and a few crickets, a lone coyote yipped in the distance. Only a few decent topics were made or revived and a few bad ones popped their heads up as well...

Points of Interest:
Collaborations. This seems to be the flavor of the week.
There are a few collaboration threads

Points of InterestHERE and HERE as well as another HERE. This also loosely ties in with the newgrounds band for a total of no less than 4 collab related topics on page 1.

Audio collabs rarely, if ever, actually go anywhere - I've been involved with several audio collabs and a flash collab or two as well. The audio always starts out strong - spirits are high, everyone is pumped and ready ... for 10 minutes - then they start the slow downward spiral into oblivion... I wish them luck - they'll need it.

There's no shortage of spam in the AF - three things that most of us are good at include making little tunes, telling people to read the damn stickies and spamming up the AF.

Points of Concern:
Lots of hate rolling around the AF this past week. Several topics have already been locked. A few new faces have shown up recently in the AF and they're damaging morale - One can't seem to stop bitching about ParagonX9. Another is simply complaining about the quality of NGAP submissions. A few more here and there do what they can to cause problems. If they persist, I'll name them and see about getting them banned from the AF for a while - that is, unless it's already been taken care of.

If I didn't know better I would think it was an intentional attack. Psy-Ops on the AF...

Over the next week, I will be beating my head against the wall to come up with a few ideas that might breath new life into the NGDD. I hope you all do the same!

Well, that would certainly help add a little day to day RPG element. I think that it would help if it really meant something though. We'd need a clear and understandable promotion path that wouldn't be messed with too much - or else it could easily devolve into a game of "I just promoted XXXX to King-Master-1st Class of the known universe" know what I mean?

I'm thinking more along the lines of how to help bring a little respect and credence to the club.

It would be nice if there were a real, understandable purpose - it would be great if other users were actually impressed by the membership and wanted in as well, you know?

Maybe each dept. should come up with a "rank structure" and some general requirements for each as well as a few ways for "meritorious promotions"

still though - even with a promotion system, unless there is a clear purpose, then it would be hard for people to see why they would want to participate.

Bottom line is what are people getting out of membership?

The collected data has me wondering what to do with it. I mean it's easy enough to mine data and say X amount of posts were made, Y new submissions... but who sees it? and what is it, or can it be used for?

Maybe we should more closely monitor current trends and fads so that we'll be able to better predict what types of flash and audio submissions will do better (score higher) at any given time.

I'm not really sure yet.

I see your point, the ranks in the dept's should be fitted around the dept, for example maybe each rank in the BBS dept could be a different forum and that person could be a specialist in that area. They could then all do weekly reports on their area and then other people can comment on them. A sort of commentary on Newgrounds where people can discuss it and comment on it. That’s another idea, what do you think?

Yes another member for my department, at the moment you don't really need to do much as we are trying to think of some changes but just drop in and see if anything has changed.
