No you need to be assigned a job in the department and the head of that department does that. Dave the BBS department leader is away and Chief of Staff Bahamut- told me he no longer posts here so it looks like _Matt_ will become the new leader. If he has a job he will say.

Is it time for more action and less talk approach? But, I guess lately there hasn't been much of either.

I see that there has been some effort with the competitions but it seems there are not enough active people to enter them - especially Flash artists. The offer made by Tom to place the winners on the front page is a very big incentive and will certainly create considerable amount of activity in the club.

The audio competition seems to be going well. But for the Flash...

If people are already well into making their flashes for the competition just shout-out to let us know. Otherwise...

I'm thinking what we can do is all focus on creating a single flash instead of a competition - a collaboration (would need at least 5 people who can create a quality Flash, which I see we don't have), a game, or something with a nice plot. What we would need first is a list of people who can draw and a single theme/idea/plot to base the flash on, and a list of Actionscripters. So please post if you feel like you have something to offer. Comments?

I don't really have a job the "internal affairs" department sort of falls right into what you do. You seem to catch the new users because you are always on at the right time. But as far as being leader goes, I don't think I would want to step up. With the end of school so near I am usually up to my eyeballs in worksheets and stuff. I barely go on NG for more than a few minutes a day to deposit my experience on the weekdays. (Or just drop in at random times during them, never staying on too long.) I would not be fit to. :0

That's what I had said to WW in a AIM chat, the mass e-mailing was a recovery attempt.

More stuff I didn't have a comment on.

Moving right along.

That'd be the bee's knees, but I don't have much to offer at all when it comes to flash. I'm sure if we spread the word to a few select users they would be interested in joining and helping with a collab to get their name in on a good flash. If you know what I mean.

I can do basic actionscript you know human movement, car movement, hit tests and gravity sort of stuff but it all depends on what sort of thing you want.

Here is a little idea since I have some spare time.

The plot:
You are working as part of a security firm protecting the Newgrounds office from evil forces.

The first level: The character would be standing outside the building when enemy start coming out of the bushes. You have to shoot and kill them.

If after killing 15 or so you get moved on to the next level, a small film will be shown that shows the character running into the building. All of a sudden his face would be wide open. Then there would be a small animation showing the wrecked offices.

The second level: You have to make sure the first floor is clear by shooting more of the enemy.

After doing this another small animation showing the character running up the stairs and into the main room finding it trashed and Tom Fulp on the floor fighting for his life.

The third level: Kill the enemy ambushing you on the second floor.

Another animation showing the character getting Tom over his shoulder and jumping out the window into a speeding car.

The fourth level: Race Tom to hospital without getting caught.

This would be the basic outline and it could be turned into a series but I just want to see if you like it.

Well I could do pretty much all the coding for that on my own so we would only be looking for a animator and someone to do graphics.

Hello all - my report will be delayed a bit - I'll most likely have something put together later today or tonight.

NaughtyKitty, nice to meet you – we haven’t yet had the chance to talk

Food for thought -
Concerning the game idea - great idea if we can get it (and keep it) working.

I just happen to be a professional multimedia developer btw. I'm very capable of helping out but whether or not I’ll have the time to invest in it is another matter. I work with Flash (among other things) on a daily basis. One problem is that I’ve been involved with a few other failed collaboration attempts. Usually what seems to happen is that everyone starts out very strong but then the excitement dies down and then ultimately everyone forgets all about it until the project flounders and dies…

Due to my work schedule, I cannot comfortable commit to it at this point but I am very capable and would like to work on something like that.

Another note, a week or two ago there was a lot of talk about some of the AF guys forming an underground crew to help boost certain audio scores. This tells me that 0-voters are still a main concern in the AF. I think that if the NGDD makes an effort to start voting and reviewing AP submissions from some of the AF regulars then we would have more support from them and possibly a few more members.

I’m not suggesting that you go vote 5 on everything – as long as you’re not hurting the score then the AF people will appreciate it a lot. I am suggesting that you look around the AF – specifically The Audio Forum Lounge and Audio Advertisements! and review, vote on and download a few of those songs – be sure to mention your NGDD affiliation in the review so that we can generate a little buzz in the AF. - You scratch their backs a little and they'll scratch yours - you know?

More to come later today or this evening.

Hey LJCoffee. I've heard and seen great things aboot you. Very excellent reports.

Usually what seems to happen is that everyone starts out very strong but then the excitement dies down and then ultimately everyone forgets all about it until the project flounders and dies…

Yea, that's what happened early on in the NGDD. There was a Flash effort but it got nowhere. I wasn't part of the NGDD so I don't know why it fell through, but there seems to be enough dedicated people right now who will see it through.

Due to my work schedule, I cannot comfortable commit to it at this point but I am very capable and would like to work on something like that.

Very well, I'll take that as a "I will be a minimal contributor for the time being."

You scratch their backs a little and they'll scratch yours - you know?

That sounds like a good idea. Just come up with a bit more structured and official looking plan. Something you can attach to the end of your weekly report so as to remind the club what we do.

Hello again comrades, I'm here to check things out.

Looks like there's a flash collab going around here. I can animate, [ego]I even got a few daily awards and frontpages on the flash portal[/ego], but sorry to say that I'm very busy with my school work, small tests here and there...I wish I could help out though, but I'm just too busy.

Did Marcus quit his leadership?

Audio Dept. end of week report

This weeks report was delayed by a day and so the numbers will seem artificially high when compared to prior trends. By contrast, next weeks report (If done on Friday) will seem slighlty lower. Please take into account for this is you are using this data for computational purposes. I've included an adjusted number based on (the totals / 8)*7 to try to give more accurate numbers. Thanks

New Audio Portal Submissions: 621
* adjusted number would be approximately 543

There were 99 new topics created this week in the AF and 1344 new posts.
* adj. numbers are 87 topics and 1176

The genres with the most new submissions were:
Techno +92
Miscellaneous +82
Hip Hop - Modern +77
Video Game +67
Ambient +51

Points of interest and concern were not properly tracked this week due to an extremely busy work schedule.

It seems that the NGDD is quite inactive in general – Last week, I had asked for everyone to think of a few ideas that might help and to be honest, I couldn’t come up with much either.

A few Flash submissions would be a great way to generate interest – perhaps we can prepare an NGDD preloader for use? I’ve made a few NG preloaders and I wouldn’t mind putting together an NGDD preloader – you can see a sample or two at this site.

The game that was discussed is a fine idea – NaughtyKitty, you were correct that I would be a minimal contributer for the time being – but only because I’m currently unable to commit to more. If I get more time over the next few weeks I’ll be more than happy to help in any way that I can.

Perhaps a sweep of the other forums might help attract a few people but we would still need a way to keep them interested. I know that Audio Dept. is severely lacking – As far as I know, I’m the only active Audio rep – Rucklo is the Co-Secretary but I know that

The only problem I see with that is the mode of distribution. How could we advertise use of the preloader?

Maybe we should delay the making of the game until Gregosan or you are able to help if BBM is unable to handle it by himself.

What ever happened to the proposed sig contest and the b/p contest by _Matt_? I can host a b/p contest, but the last one only had three participants. If there are people interested in one, shout-out. We'll need a minimum of 5.

Here's an idea I've been mulling over. To increase activity, we have to offer something worthwhile. When someone wins a contest, they get a certain number of points. Once they reach a pre-determined number of points, they can redeem them and I will order them a piece of NG merchandise. How does this idea sound?

Well I guess since WastedWizard is banned for a week, then the next in-line can step up and be acting leader of the Department of Flash. Unless of course, there is noone, in which case... The club is dieing.

I'm on strike...

only 8 or 9 posts back is last weeks Audio dept. report - and I've not seen any other such "reports" from the other depts.

I'm still keeping track of some useless data but I see no reason to post any such nonsense here if I'm the only one bothering...

Where are the other dept. heads? Where are these weekly reports and why are doing this again?

Sorry folks, I'll keep checking in here and there but until things pick up again , maybe towards the summer, I'm not going to bother posting the results of the Audio data mining operation.

sad sad sad... :(

Hopefully we'll get a few new peeps and the NGDD will become a little more active ... Until then I'll sit here and wait with the rest of you.

That is very fine with me. There sure isn't enough activity to warrant it. What do you think of the idea of closing this thread and starting a new thread with a proper first post?

At 5/12/06 03:04 PM, Wylo wrote: What do you think of the idea of closing this thread and

A fresh start huh?

Well, this thread does have 380 pages of history dating back to April '04 ... more than 2 years... That's gotta count for something right? A new topic might not be a bad idea though

- perhaps a few NGDD changes are in order - maybe the existing dept. heads can work together to come up with a revised set of rules and requirements for membership - define a purpose and make it all as clear as possible.

A little structure might be a good thing - in addition, maybe a NGDD insignia that each member can place in thier sig-pic. Something small and unobtrusive but still easily recognizable.

I'll come up with a sample or two with a better explanation and a few more ideas as well.

- Look for another post soon.
