At 11/20/11 05:24 PM, DoctorStrongbad wrote: Miami Dolphins have won three games in a row. Are they lucky or good?

A bit of both

I think this uptake all started when Reggie Bush was given the workload in the Giants game. He put up good numbers and Miami looked like a team motivated to be better than themselves. Since then Reggie has done a tremendous job of making the Dolphins a respectable offense but even more than that Matt Moore has begun to show glimpses of what we saw of him being taking over the Panthers when he went on a tear near the end of the season.

What happened today against Buffalo wasn't luck, it was a motivated team thrashing a team that has abruptly decided to either get comfortable or just plainly lost all of their tenacity.

Buffalo isn't even the same team they were at the beginning of the year. They've gone back to that some conservative, cookie cutter offense bullshit that made them lose 8 straight last year and the defense is playing like they forgot how to. I don't know who this team is but I want the Bills back. I know who the Bills can be, who they should be and it makes me sick to watch them shoot themselves in the foot week after week against teams ranging from decent to outright incompetent.

Buffalo has all but excluded itself from divisional discussion and the wild card is about to be lost entirely. I am not so much surprised as I am disappointed. My team used to play with a kind of fire, like a cornered fox trying desperately to make something, anything, go their way and I found that exciting. My team beat the Patriots and intercepted Tom Brady four times.

I don't know what the fuck is going on but it needs to shape up soon because I am pretty sick of it.

I'm 9-3 with my picks so far this week.

Cleveland actually managed to win, which was a bit surprising, but I can let that one go because Jacksonville isn't that strong this year either. On the other hand...Buffalo has just blown any credibility they ever had with me. I honestly do not know how a team can beat the Patriots and then get blown out by a team like Miami. Even with changes to a team over time, that still seems impossible within one season. I'm stunned. I can see the Jets whipping the shit out of them next week when they play and I'm saying that as I remember the Jets's painful loss to Denver.

Oh well, all I need now is for Eli Manning and Tom Brady to bring their respective teams the wins, which isn't too much to ask as they're both former Super Bowl champions...

My school has its final game of the season tomorrow against our rivals, the Ohio University Bobcats. Ohio has already clinched the MAC East, so it's not like this game is going to determine who goes to the MAC Championship, but I would love to see Miami's season end with fucking O.U. in the ass. You can watch the game on ESPN2 at 7 pm.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say we're not going to a bowl game, so tomorrow is it until 2012 in Oxford. I'm so sad. :(

But of course the BCS isn't meant to be fair now is it...

Any team that lose against Iowa State does not deserve to play in the national championship game. I'd say the same if LSU or Alabama loses against Iowa State in a non-conference game.
I mean, it is fucking Iowa State, not to mention that Alabama's lone loss came against top ranked LSU in overtime.

Fun Fact: The San Francisco 49ers can clinch the NFC next week if they beat Baltimore and if Seattle loses to the Redskins. It's pretty amazing that a team could be ensured a spot in the playoffs this early, but I guess it's just a testament to how awful that division is.

It's certainly a possibility. Especially considering three of the NFCN teams could get in and if the Packers wanted to maintain home field advantage all throughout the playoffs, then they'd more than likely have to win out.

Is there a possibility that they could do what the Colts did and wait until they've clinched their division and then take their starters out, to make sure they don't have any injuries before the playoffs?

You would think so, but with the Niners on their tail record-wise, I don't think they would do that on purpose. Historically, resting starters for the playoffs isn't a good idea, considering they is a chance that they would get rusty, especially if they have a first round bye. It would only make sense for them to run the table, because I don't really see too many games on San Francisco's schudule that they could lose to beyond Thanksgiving.

Plus, the Packers pass defense tends to get shredded from time to time, so they pretty much have no choice but to play all of their starters if they want to go undefeated in the regular season.

What happened to the Colts when they decided to rest their key players instead of going for the record? Oh, yea...they choked in the playoffs again like they usually do.
Talking about the Colts, will they go 0-16 this season?

Is there anyone that can beat LSU? The way that they dismantled Arkansas after falling behind 14-0 early, I really do think that no team can stop them now. Oklahoma State and Alabama might have an outside shot, but the Cowboys lost to a pathetic Iowa State team, which pretty much eliminates them if Alabama wins, and LSU beat Alabama in their place.

Looks like we're going to have a rematch, most likely.

As for the little game between Michigan and Ohio State, I'm going to be honest here, Michigan will win this game by double digits. The Buckeyes have no offense whatsoever beyond Braxton, and I dare say he's half the QB that Taylor Martinez is, and we beat the tar out of him last week. I really do expect Robinson to have a decent game both running and passing the ball, and if he can keep from turning over the ball too much, then their victory is assured.

This game has far more importance for Michigan than it does for the Bucks. Ohio State is simply fighting to get a slightly better bowl game before Christmas, but for Michigan, it's a possible BCS bowl bid, a chance to get the upper hand on the rivalry, and to shut up a certain smartass who shall remain nameless.

Well... Kirk Herbstreit said on ESPN just yesterday that Urban Meyer is going to rule the Big Ten at OSU...

An Ohio State honk like Herbstreit is going to say that, mostly for the lol factor. It's like Lou Holtz saying that Notre Dame is going to be a national title contender every year, probably due the fact that he's half-senile and he coached there. Plus you do realize that Nebraska is in the Big Ten now, and Michigan is massively improved, right?

Yep... professionaly analysts also agree with me.

First off, work on your grammar, seriously. Second, even professional analysts can be wrong from time to time, I could post numerous examples, but you wouldn't get it at all. And finally, it's not like Meyer can waltz on in there and magically have success immediately, it's going to take a few years of recruiting to build up a team like he did with Bowling Green and Utah.

Professional analysts have the most conservative opinions you will find. They always get caught by upsets and usually just reiterate what everyone else already knows.

This is especially true in college where everyone was on someone's team and can't help but drone on about how great THEIR team is.

Instead of throwing 'professional analysts' at the issue let the teams speak for themselves.

In Ohio State's case their offense has been lacking at some points but they play solid overall and though it gutted me they did beat Wisconsin. Luck or not they kept themselves within 1 score to win so that has to count for something.

On the other hand Michigan's Denard Robinson has been less prolific on offense than he has been in past years but the defense has improved substantially.

On the whole I don't really know much about these two teams and honestly I don't find any game with this much ante to be predictable. I'm throwing my name in the Michigan hat simply out of spite for Ohio State and the fact that I figure they're evenly matched enough to make it anyone's game.

Response to American Football Discussion 2011-11-26 16:26:04

I will say this about Ohio State, they did show up to play today. But in the end, we came out victorious, and finished the season with a 10-2 record, and undefeated at home. We may not be playing for a Big Ten title this year, but most likely we are going to be in a BCS bowl game, and I can say that our future is going to be bright.

Now this is the perfect time to ask this: What'cha gonna do when Hoke-a-mania runs wild on you? {seriously, I always wanted to say that, and now the timing just feels right.}

The Wolverines did do good today and I'd have to say that this was the most entertaining version of "The Game" that I've seen in some time. However, I'm fully ready for the Buckeyes to make a STRONG comeback in 2012. ;) Savor the win, friend, and I look forward to cheering alongside you tomorrow when the Bengals take on the Browns.
