Went 2-0 on championship weekend... go me. Then again I was bailed out a bit by the Viking's offense and inability to keep the ball in their collective hands. How nice to see that Brett went out this year with the Vikings exactly as he went out with the Packers, with a loss in the NFC championship game with his last attempt being an INT.
Of course this is all conjecture, Favre will probably hold the Vikings hostage once again on whether or not he'll come back. Hell who knows, maybe if Cutler gets injured in preseason he'll sign with the Bears.
AFC noteworthiness points; I thought the Jets played a great first half, especially Sanchez. But their running game just wasn't as effective today as other days, and I'll give credit to the Colts defense for that. They just locked the Jets out in the 2nd half and forced a rookie QB to win the game, and that just won't happen in that situation.

The Pro Bowl has always been retarded. NFL big-wigs think that maybe this garners a better ratings number than playing it after the Super Bowl I guess.

Not as bad when you consider he's one of the top two or three punters in the history of the game. Then I don't feel so bad.
Other news:
London Fletcher is finally going to the Pro Bowl.
The Washington Redskins middle linebacker has been promoted to the NFC roster because the player ahead of him, Jonathan Vilma, will be going to the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints.
"At some point I did think, maybe it's never going to happen," Fletcher said Monday. "I've had some great seasons and never made it to the Pro Bowl."
Fletcher said he "did a little sprinting around the house" when the Saints kicked an overtime field goal to beat the Minnesota Vikings in Sunday's NFC championship game. He had turned the game off in the fourth quarter, figuring friends would call him with the result. When the phone didn't ring, he turned the television back on and realized the game was in overtime.
"That was the most gut-wrenching game I've ever watched," Fletcher said.
The 34-year-old Fletcher is the league's most prolific tackler over the past decade, with at least 100 tackles in 11 straight seasons. He has never missed a game in his 12-year career and ranks only behind Brett Favre(notes) in consecutive games played among non-specialists with 192. He's a solid team leader and widely respected as one of the best at his position.
In a rare outburst, Fletcher was upset when he wasn't selected to the Pro Bowl last season, calling himself "the Susan Lucci of the NFL," a reference to the soap opera star who was nominated 18 times for an Emmy before finally winning. He said he played the game "the way it's supposed to be played" and was consistently overlooked because he stayed out of trouble and wasn't a flashy player who would "do some kind of dance" after a routine tackle.

I guess I should update this. Ha!
I don't think the Pro Bowl is worth taking picks on since they don't blitz or really 'play' the game.

You may not, but I wonder what the betting line in Vegas on the game is currently.
Super Bowl

Too early for me to make any pick. I'm still mulling over all angles that one can mull.
You can put my fictitious money on the Colts.
Also, I was perusing the lines for the Super Bowl and then individual lines (such as who will win the SB MVP)...Colts are a -6. Depending on how that holds up over the next week I might actually try and go in on that with a friend or two, because I think it's highly possible that the Colts could win by more than six.
However, the one I really wanted to get in on is the normal crapshoot for Super Bowl MVP...but Peyton is 1/1 odds there. I thought about maybe giving Pierre Garcon (14/1) or Reggie Wayne (10/1) a shot, but I don't think there's much of a chance that if the Colts win, the MVP will be someone other than Peyton.

So looks like I could make the superbowl week interesting here and go with the opposite of whatever phileeguy picked, which could potentially end us in a tie or I could do the boring thing and pick the same team as him and have no chance of losing overall.

Nah, let's not pick the Pro Bowl. If he had to though I think I would take the AFC.

I'm going to hold my pick here for now. Never know when a major injury or something else happens outside of practice like a car accident or whatnot.

Hah. Well I guess that strategy is dependent on whether or not you want to win overall, or try and pick correctly this game. Of course it could end up being that your pick satisfies both of those scenarios. Also, I could hold out on my pick 'til just before kickoff and force you to pick before me, and then I'll go with the opposite of your pick and hope for the best.
But yeah, if I were you I'd just pick whoever I thought would win and try for a better overall record. All this talk about strategic posturing when ahead by one point reminds me too much of game time on that relatively new ESPN show SportsNation.

I'll make you a deal and I'll pick the day before the game without looking at your pick at all. I'm not going to go for an extra point because it really takes the point away from picking these games. I'll just go with who I really feel is going to win. Like I mentioned before I already have my pick, but I'm waiting just in case something terrible happens such as a freak injury or worst.
Hey guys, I just found out that my grandfather was at the First Super Bowl. What should I ask him about it?

I guess we could add a total score for the Super Bowl as a tie breaker if you really need it. If there is a tie in the standings, the person closest wins. If you wish to keep that a secret you can shoot me a PM around game time.

Feel free to post your pick whenever you want. I too will wait a while for the same reasons you mention, injuries and other oddities that would change the games possible outcome, and I too have a feeling on my pick already. Frankly I don't see these weekly pick-'ems as so much a competition with all of you, but a self-challenge... and to try and kick those dopes at ESPN's collective asses.

Ask him what it was like to pay a reasonable price to attend an NFL(and at the time vs. AFL) game.
Notice how I didn't say Super Bowl game there, because all games back then were reasonably priced. And nowadays all games are fricken expensive, not just the playoffs/Super Bowl.
Kurt Warner leaves the game with a legacy that could land him in the Hall of Fame even though he didn't start his first game until he was 28.
In a comparison with the 14 quarterbacks to make the Hall of Fame in the last 25 years, Warner has a better career completion percentage, yards per pass attempt, and yards per game. Only Dan Marino had more career 300-yard passing games.
In 124 regular-season games, Warner completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 32,344 yards and 208 touchdowns. He and Fran Tarkenton are the only NFL quarterbacks to throw for 100 touchdowns and 14,000 yards for two teams.
He was also the fastest player in NFL history to 10,000 yards passing and tied Dan Marino as fastest to reach 30,000.
He has the top three passing performances in Super Bowl history. His 1,156 yards passing in the 2008 playoffs broke the NFL record of 1,063 he set with St. Louis in 1999.

No doubt Warner will get into the Hall. Even though he didn't end his career with another Super Bowl ring, it's still a great tale of his career from being a nobody to leading the Greatest Show on Turf.
On another note, I wasn't able to watch the Pro Bowl or anything really since a iced covered tree landed on my cable line a few days ago. I hope for the cable company's sake they fix it by the Super Bowl. >:(

Matt Schaub was named the Pro Bowl MVP.
Also the 2000's all-decade have been announced:

Wasn't he replacing Tom Brady or something? More proof that the pro bowl is a total joke.

I don't know what's a bigger joke, the NFL All-Star game where 3rd and 4th choices get to start at their respective positions because the first 2 or 3 choices are either ineligible due to the Super Bowl, just coming off a loss in the AFC/NFC Championships, or are just plain hurting or letting fan voting in leagues like the NBA get out of hand where Allen Iverson starts at Guard for the East.
I mean neither players like Iverson who are voted in without merit, nor players like Vince Young who are in the NFL Pro Bowl - just because they needed another guy and he was on the top of the leftovers pile at the time - deserved to be in their respective all-star games. So the question comes down to this : What's the bigger fuck-up? The game where all the starters are solely voted on by fans where the winners often don't deserve it (NBA), or the game where not only fans, but players and coaches vote in probably the right choice but it's league holds it at such an odd time so most of the real all-stars rarely play or show up (NFL)?
Well it's Thursday, the day I usually I make my picks, so here it is:
Saints 35 - Colts 28
The simulation of the SB that Madden puts on every year says they will win, so I'm going with that.

You mean you won't give the Colts an extra field goal and just flat out pick the same score as the Madden simulation?
I'm predicting a 52-52 tie after quadruple overtime and a special SB is made for both teams.

In the fourth quarter of a very close, tightly-played game, Dwight Freeney is going to rip his own ankle off and beat Drew Brees with it, causing Brees to cough up the football and sustain a concussion while simultaneously having a foot literally jammed up his ass. Then, Gary Brackett will pick it up and run it into the endzone and seal the win for the Indianapolis Peytons.

That sounded like one of those predictions Theopolis used to make on the Yankees message board. Actually he still do, just not as much as he used to...
"As the old saying goes...what was it again?"
Kind of off topic from the super bowl discussion, but I wanted to hear some opinions about the NFLPA possibly locking out the 2011 season if there is no salary cap next year.
"The question to DeMaurice Smith was simple, coming from Cincinnati receiver Chad Ochocinco(notes), asking how serious he viewed the possibility of football not being played in 2011.
Smith did not hesitate.
"On a scale of 1 to 10," Smith said Thursday, "it's a 14."
With that, the executive director of the NFL Players Association painted perhaps the bleakest picture yet regarding prospects of labor strife in the league, which could be looking at a 2010 season with no salary cap and, if the collective bargaining agreement expires as scheduled in March 2011, a lockout that year."
