I hope Roger Goodell sticks to his guns and doesn't give into the demands to these greedy officials. I've heard that the regular Officials make 20 grand a game, about 160 grand a year. I'm sorry, for a officiating job that seems like a lot to me personally. People who fight for our country make less than that. People keep blaming the current Officials for shit, but its bullshit. I remember the regular Officials fucking up calls just as bad but not getting this much media attention. I remember when my Eagles were screwed on several calls last year that decided the outcome of games. Yes, it's more noticeable when the Officials fuck up the end of the game, but lets not act like the regular Officials are some great ass Officials because they're not. Stick to your guns Roger.
No. No, nonononoonno, just no. I fundamentally disagree with you and am so on the side on this one it's not even funny, because I think this problem goes deeper than just the NFL, it spans across all the major sports, and into most other aspects of society as well; It's kind of like we are living in the "moneyball era" of life now; everyone is so fucking obsessed with cutting costs, tightening budgets, excessive and petty bean counting, and exhibiting a desire to acquire more hands on control to "increase efficiency," and other bullshit marketing euphemisms to justify being cheap and greedy, that at some point it just has to fucking stop.
Roger Goodell acts like he's the fucking tsar of the NFL or something, the be-all-and-end-all of football, like being commissioner gives him the right to rule all aspects of the sport with an iron fist. Basically under the current model, if you disagree with him, you can go fuck yourself. The exact same thing is happening in the NHL right now with Gary Bettman. The exact same thing happened in the NBA last year with David Stern. Douchebag commissioners who care more about the marketing of their league and brand, then the state of the game, itself, which is the actual product that they fucking marketing in the first place.
I also am positive that these replacement officials aren't equally as shit as the regular ones, as you claim. These guys aren't professionals. That's it. Maybe 160k is a lot for what must be a pretty fucking awesome job, but they're generally pros at what they do, and if the NFL should stand for anything it should be professionalism.
Admittedly I didn't see the Monday night game, but I saw the replay of the last play at least a dozen times Tuesday morning, and it didn't really resonate with me how stupid it was until I heard one of the regular/locked out referees break the play down. He was basically like: Even if Golden Tate had have caught the pass, (which he clearly didn't, at best he had one hand firmly on the ball, but never full possession, and clearly not possession to the ground) if his crew was working the game, you would have seen like 5 flags fly across your screen, because every ref who was even half paying attention to the game would have called offensive pass interference on Tate, and there would have been no need to even take it to the replay booth. Just that simple. At the end of the day, the outcome of a game at the highest level of professional sport was decided by the inadequacy of the league's officiating. That's not what the players worked their whole lives to get the pinnacle of their craft for, and that's not what the fans pay see, though maybe they're not complaining in Seattle, it still hurts the on field product, so it hurts the game, and cheapens the integrity of the league.
So in conclusion, Nah B. Nah.
