haha, ya feel good about the Cowboys as post-hype sleepers this year. They definitely have the assets on offense, and the defense is looking pretty dirty; cocky, loudmouth moron's or not, those Ryan boys know how to orchestrate a defensive scheme.

At 9/6/12 12:44 AM, Head-Full-Of-Acid wrote: btw, i just dropped cruz for ogletree.

Surely you jest.

I didn't think the refereeing was all that bad, especially considering it was the first real kick at the can for the replacements. The biggest problem I'm expecting to see is actually over-calling, with refs trying to prove their authority/competency and demonstrate that they have control over the game. Again, last night wasn't TOO bad, but there was that one sequence where there were penalty flags on like 5-6 plays in a row, almost to the point of absurdity. It's the NFL, there's holding on every single play, if you look hard enough for it, sometimes you have to let the incidental stuff go.

Plus it's still tough to tell with the 1 game sample size, it's been a while since I saw a game with so many delays of game/near delays of game/offsides and false starts, so that game might not be the ideal barometer, who knows.

I'm a Philadelphia Eagles fan, but glad that the Giants lost to the Cowboys yesterday.

Figures, after what happened last night suddenly there are Cowboys fans popping out of the woodwork on the commenting section of Yahoo Sports articles.

Hopefully the Giants will get their revenge in Dallas but right now, gotta focus on beating the Bucs.

That may have been, but the city of Cleveland was just as much to blame as well. Art wanted to get a new stadium to replace the old, creaky Municipal Stadium, but for whatever reason, they never made the deal with Modell and instead give the Indians a new ballpark. {Progressive Field} The Browns as an organization were beginning to hemorrhage money due to poor spending, declining numbers of fans going and so on, and really Modell had no choice but to move the franchise to Baltimore, who was willing to pay a mint to get an NFL team back. Turns out, history virtually repeats itself with the Seattle Sonics, when their franchise went to shit and had to move to OKC, Seattle did nothing to replace the old KeyArena, and they paid the price.

Even with that, Art Modell should have been in the HOF much earlier, considering that he did more good for pro football as a whole, {and certainly for Baltimore} and he wasn't the only owner that the Browns chased away, {Paul Brown} although Modell left in pretty bad terms compared to Brown. Just because it's in Canton, which is a stone's throw away from Cleveland, doesn't make it right for Modell not to be in there before he died, and if Cleveland fans can't accept that, then they really need to look in the mirror and realize how good they had it before the new Browns reincarnation came in and turn into a disgrace of a NFL franchise.

Two game worth noting today are Florida at Texas AM and Georgia at Mizzou. I'm really interested to see how these two do in their new conferences. I think only the Aggies have half a chance of winning today.

Well, Michigan definitely got a good wake-up call playing Air Force, literately taking it to the final couple of moments. I would like to say that we should've never been in that position in the first place, but I guess the hangover from the Alabama loss was noticeable at times, but at least we won.

As for Arkansas and Wisconsin, well they aren't so lucky. Losing to ULM at home is pretty disgraceful, but I guess they do get a little bit of a pass because Tyler Wilson went down, but Wisconsin had no excuse whatsoever to lose to Oregon State the way they did. Once again, Wisconsin plays down to their competition, which is no surprise why they lose games like this, and why no one ever treats them seriously.

Because the city had complete control over what Modell did.
Oh and let me also say this...

Modell headed up Stadium Corp and had to keep taking out loans. He put his own dumbass into a financial hole (pun unintended) and even after Cleveland voted yes for a sin tax to do the required work to the stadium, the dumbass was so far in debt he decided to move the team instead of selling it like he should have...

So, yet again. Don't blame Cleveland. Blame Modell for being stupid with his money.

Also, my information comes from one of the head accountants that worked for The Browns during the 80s all the way up until the move. He saw it happen, he wrote a book about it.

That all may be true but the fact is Cleveland has their team back (as shit as it may be) and it's been back for a while now so stop sticking to the past for the negatives and remember the positives for all the good things Art did for Cleveland like bringing football there in the first place and giving Cleveland all those good memories when they actually won games.

Anyways happy Sunday to all and hope you enjoy it. :)

Time for the Cleveland Browns to get destroyed by my Eagles again. We always beat up on that team, not just in the preseason game(that didn't mean shit), but I remember a couple years ago when we played them we destroyed them too. Cleveland has a bad football team for awhile haven't they? They haven't made the playoffs since like the 70's from what a girl I know told me who is a Cleveland fan. Well, prepared to be disappointed today Cleveland fans, because my Eagles are the real deal and my Eagles will be holding up that trophy at the end of the season.

Actually the Browns hadn't made the playoffs since 2002 and were actually contenders throughout the 1980s in the Kosar era. They were still relevant in the 1990s, even making the playoffs in 1994 but keep in mind, the current and the past Browns were two different teams.

The old Browns are currently residing in Baltimore while their skin is in Cleveland, wrapped around a expansion team. The league can try to claim that the Raven were an expansion team but who are they fooling? Maybe the people in Baltimore but seriously.

Not to mention the irony of the fact that Baltimore was robbed of their team in 1984 and to get a team back, they had to steal it from another city.

The girl you know doesn't know jack shit about football if she wasn't even aware of their relevance in the 1980s were they would famously choke against John Elway and the Broncos multiple times in AFC championship games.

To think the Browns could have had a 2000 SB trophy and a killer linebacker in Cleveland, but then again maybe it's for the best since the city might have been cursed. Also, the Raven's choking tendency in the recent playoffs appearances? That's their old habit.

Wow, Cleveland Browns played their heart out today and almost upsetted my Eagles. I didn't expect this type of game. Hopefully my Eagles play better next week. Final score 17-16 Eagles win a close one...

Weeden played awful, as was expected, but the defense really showed up and put the heat on a sloppy Michael Vick to give their team a chance.

Meanwhile the Bills played their Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde bullshit as usual.

I think the better question is where is that Bills defense that supposed to be better with Mario Willams? Giving up 48 points to the offensively woeful Jets, that's a problem. Not as bad though as the Saints, who were supposed to be energized at home because of Bountygate, but found a way to lose to the 'Skins and RG3. Really?

Ah yet again, the Browns snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Even after getting 5 turnovers, they still can't get it done against the Eagles, go figure.

The Eagles will be shitty this year (especially after Vick gets his inevitable injury), Manning made Elway look like a genius, the Packers were humbled at Lambeau, and the Saints got embarrassed in their own house with Brees getting shown up by a rookie. What an awesome opening Sunday. Holy shit I'm excited for this season.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

More like a Monday for me as the Sunday afternoon games and night game are too late for me in the UK. I recorded them though and have now fully caught up.... and like a great many Broncos fans I am now absolutely buzzing about this season. That was a class performance from Manning and a brilliant start to the season. Still a tough schedule, but one 'big' team put away- can't ask for more than that.

49ers looked class as well, on both sides of the ball, and given Seattle's poor start (the only team I saw being any sort of threat) that division is as good as sown up already I suspect. A few fancied teams squeaking wins, all in all a good start to the season.

Ravens had one hell of a performance tonight, offense is looking pretty dangerous. Also, congrats to Ed Reed, my all time favorite player, for setting a new NFL record for career int return yards. Good thing I had my Ed Reed jersey on.

I gotta give you guys credit, Joe Flacco and friends looked great out there. I wouldn't be surprised if you guys made it to the Super Bowl this year. They seem very hungry and into it and with the Steelers looking soft against Denver, I'd say the division is your guys' for the taking again.

Hopefully we'll play you guys better in December, though. :)

Really, the same old diatribe again?

9-7 last year and only beat ONE team with a winning record. I love when teams are so pseudo-talented that their fans get hypnotic visions of grandeur.

How exactly are they hypnotic in terms of grandeur? Myself, I said that they will be a wild-card team again with a 10-6 record. There are some experts who say that they could win the division, but I have my doubts about that even before this game. When it comes to grandeur, are you sure that you're talking about that the Bengals and not the Cowboys?

And that's a fact YOU CAN'T ARGUE. 9 wins and only 1 against a team that ended up with a winning record.

I'm not going to argue that. But then again, we can't control other teams winning and losing, now can we? Anyone can use statistics to make any type of argument, and while it may be factual, it's isn't always accurate without the proverbial eye test, but I take it that you don't care for that at all.

I know you're a Bengals fan and whatever, but I think that's actually a pretty decent indictment of where the team is at, as a more or less "middle tier" franchise, capable enough of knocking off the Browns and their ilk, but still ultimately seem not quite good enough to play with the likes of the Ravens, and the NFL's elite. BJGE looked pretty impressive though; glad I nabbed him in fantasy.

Week 1 is usually pretty ridiculous anyway so I wouldn't put too much weight into the results just yet, good and bad.

The Bengals got spanked but when you consider that this team is still young and coming into its own you have to think it could've been worse. The same could be said of the Panthers, the Colts, etc.

It's too early to call, after all I don't think anyone's going to be betting the farm on the Redskins even though week 1 went well.

Response to American Football Discussion 2012-09-13 15:55:18

I wouldn't get too excited about the Bears over the Packers.

The Packers got off to a slow start against San Fran and had a few iffy calls go against them and they still managed to pull back into it. The Bears meanwhile trounced a bad team with an inexperienced QB. I don't think Green Bay will lose twice in a row, but we'll see because despite the fact that the Bears have been Green Bay's whipping boy for the last few years they've always been a top of the line team with a top of the line defense.

I'm still sticking with Green Bay.

Response to American Football Discussion 2012-09-14 12:09:15

3 of you guys really picked da Bears to win outright? I would have been tentative to take them +a bunch of points. You guys thought the Packers were going to go 0-2 at home, after what happened last week, at the commemorative 300th game at Lambeau Field? lol

Tough luck for Forte too.

Response to American Football Discussion 2012-09-14 21:25:26

Well, I would've thought that the Bears O-line would be improved from last year, but the game against the Packers told me otherwise, and Jay Cutler wasn't exactly in the best of moods about it, but then again, when is he ever? That said, they need to seriously invest in getting better O-linemen, considering that Cutler has either been on his ass all the time, or hurt because of that line. I swear, it seems like the experts just forget about their weaknesses and put the entire blame for the loss on Cutler.

Well, Wisconsin was still embarrassingly bad against Utah State but at least they managed to win. The new Offensive Coordinator and QB have ruined this team and brought them down to the bottom of the barrel in record time. It boggles my mind that a team that has gone to two Rose Bowls in a row can't seem to recruit a decent QB and had to transfer some throwaway from a bottom tier school. I was looking forward to trouncing Ohio State this year but it looks like that isn't going to happen.

Hopefully the Bills put Kansas City away this week and my heart doesn't die.
