Hey Folks, I've got a song here that i feel like i need to have reviewed. It's only got one review so far, and it was a great review.... Yet the score keeps going down on it. So i'm not sure if either it's a good song, or if i'm the victim of the ever atrocious zero-bombing that happens so often. So.....either the song sucks......which very well could be. So, here it is.

Now i know you guys get flooded with audio links, but it's appreciated. We all know that the audio portal gets overlooked. And hell, i wouldn't post all my songs to you guys, because even i know that alot of them suck. But everyonce and awhile i think i might have made something that's not half bad. So, any rate, thanks for doin what you guys are doin. Us wannabe artists truly appreciate it.

Yeah, it's just that I haven't seen him on MSN or AIM either, that's why I'm asking. Usually I see him online sometimes even though he's busy with schoolwork.

I would do it, but I'm afraid I just don't have the time. Studying takes up a lot of my free time (I have a term paper to do and only three weeks time and I still have one examn left).

But what about other users? Supersteph? Joshsouza? Others? Do you think you could handle the burden of being a (temporary) list maker for the RRC? :D

Wow, he must be really busy :'(. Most likely, his computer broke down.

I don't know... I think it'd take a while to get all the spreadsheets ready, and all of the information on it, only to find out I might only be using it for like one update or something. Also, as SCTE3 said, we don't necessarily need the list; it's only there as a side-feature to writing reviews; to give more of a competition than just: get request - write review. Still, if Sonofkirk, can't end up doing the list anymore, because he might be too busy, I'll volunteer to do it :). That means that at times I might need someone to do the requests list for me, though :(.

Man, these are some hard times for the club. Fro's been out of the club for a while, Sonofkirk hasn't updated for almost 3 weeks, audio requests are becoming more and more of a problem, and I'm starting to make exaggeratingly large reviews... I'm really surprised this club is still staying sturdy and active. Well, this club means a lot to quite a number of (mostly audio) artists, so I'd hate to see this club close down :(.

No song ever truly sucks, some just need to be improved.

Well, maybe not the song itself. But quite possibly the person singing it. LOL American Idol and some of the singers that truly believe they are good comes to mind. Only to find out that their friends and family have lied to them their whole life and they end up on a gag reel of sorts. You have to admit, there is some horrible music out there, maybe it's the eye of the beholder type of thing. Which is why i try and stick to genres i know when reviewing. I'm trying to learn more about techno and trance, and bpm's, trying to branch out. I would just hate to give a bad review to a song that people who actually listen to that sort of music would think is brilliant.

I mean, i feel the same about flash. I've messed with flash, and know there's a lot of hard work that goes into it. But i find it hard to tell somebody what's wrong with it if i didn't know the first thing about how to fix it. I've messed with fruity loops too, but.... it's just totally different than what i do. I'm still working with a chisel and rock and they're up flying around in space.

We do appreciate you guys though. And i was thinking, maybe their could be an audio Review Request Club? Just an idea, that i'm sure you guys have pondered before, in some long ago hidden bbs. But yeah, break an audio RRC down to genres would be kind of cool. But, i doubt that anybody would want to undertake such a thing. Takes a lot of dedication. Bah, yeah, probably better that there's not. LOL

Hi guys, sorry for not informing you but I won't do the update anytime soon. It's not only a matter of schoolwork or real life events, the main thing is that I want to leave Newgrounds for a bit a time. I think I've done quite a good job with the updates for the RRC and the two audio reviews/responses list and I've done a nice little number of them ;).

If someone wants to take over the list, I'll be more than happy to send them and to explain how it works, it's not that difficult in the end :). I would have liked to do more for the club, such as reviewing more requests and doing a bit more than 20 updates but I could come back who knows!

I'm not gone yet, I want to make sure the list will have someone updating it :)

Yeah, I suppose so. You definitely can't blame them; after all, real life is more important than the Internet. It's a bummer that all of this has to happen at once though :(.

Also the audio reviews aren't exactly a problem, it's just they get submitted in large amounts each week, I mean someone with some serious free time could probably write out reviews for all of them and they'd get a really nice spot on the Audio review/response lists

Well, having a balance of Flash and Audio with some art as well will make writing the reviews less tedious, because there'd be more variety of stuff to review. For example, if in a week there was 16 Audio, 16 Flash and 8 Art, then it'd be much more fun to review all of them, since there'd be more variety than just audio all the time. It's not TOO much of a problem, IMO, but even though most of the time Flash doesn't need exposure since it usually has at least 5 reviews after it passes the front page, it's always nice to have some flash to review too.

unless the audio artists decide to delete their work, in that case I feel like I just wasted some t ime writing them a review for nothing, they could keep the old piece and put up the new piece and let people do a side by side comparison of both.

Yeah, I hate it when people do that... It would've been a complete waste of 15-20 minutes (at least in my case anyway :P).

Hopefully it won't close down, audio artists also have this thread to advertise in but considering most users don't really visits the audio forums unless they're an audio artists, I'm guessing they put them here because they know someone will notice it and review it.

The Audio Advertisement thread is just a checklist for 0-bombers to zero-vote, mostly. Even though the thread had a good idea put into it, I find that all it does is make your score worse, and I never got any reviews from advertising over there... I do occasionally find some good songs over there, and I sometimes review them too, but usually, those advertisements are just ignored by other people.

You're good how you are, just take you're time and review when you can. Also as for someone updating the Audio review lists, might wish to ask someone in those two stat threads.

Yeah, it takes a lot of dedication to update 2 threads at the same time, and you did an awesome job, so thanks a lot for all you've done :). Still, I hope to see you back again whenever you're ready ;).

I'm not gone yet, I want to make sure the list will have someone updating it :)
Someone will take up doing it, just give it a few days.

I'll probably give it a shot, unless anyone wants to do it instead of me.

Isn't that the audio requests that are considered extra for the week?
If I understand it correctly people who submit audio are entitled to one review, and if they request more than one review, those request go into the extra request category right? The only thing I'm fuzzy on is if the extra requests get carried over into the next list...

Yeah, hence the name 'Extra Audio Requests' :P.

Yep, that's right.

Yes, they do. The Extra Audio Requests list from last week get carried on to this week, but last week there were no extra audio requests, so just focus on finding which requesters asked for more than 1 review, and putting the extra requests in the Extra Audio Requests list. Note that this only applies for audio requests, since we only introduced the system because there was too much audio.

Thanks again :D.

Little flash, or art, and as usual a shitload of music requests...

I have a suggestion, seeing as how we review submissions that get deleted, only
to have a new version come out a couple of days later.

Why don't we make a rule that if a submission gets deleted, the requester must wait one month
before they can request another review on the new version.

This way the requester will have proper time to work on the fixes he needs to, and ensure a significantly better product. And we won't need to review the enhanced version with minor tweaks every couple of days...

I don't have any problems myself with re-reviewing stuff as long as there is a significant overall improvement...

Thanks,
- Celx

Yeah, lol. Don't worry though, not much of a problem. I don't think you did any mistakes, so good job on that. Thanks a lot for doing the list, man :).
--
I'll probably update the list tomorrow, and I'll try and from now on update the list on Sunday only, or Monday if the list is big or I don't have time, like Sonofkirk used to do, so we can try and get back into the usual schedule. I've done the updates for both the weeks that Joshsouza did the list on paper for now, until Sonofkirk sends me the spreadsheets, and it wasn't easy since there's been a bit of confusion with who entered the club and who didn't, since not everyone posted their points at the end of the week, but if I asked them to post the points they had, they'd be unsure whether to post the points for this week, last week, or the week before, so I think it's better to add them to the list (I'm referring to 42444244 [Ugh, what an awkward username :P] and ThePortalGuru, who as far as I know didn't post any points [sorry if I'm mistaken]).

Good luck to anyone who still has reviews left to do from my list! ;)

Ima start criticizing XD.

CLUB INFO
...............................

General Rules for Requesters:
If you are planning on requesting reviews, please:
- Post a direct link to the submission(s) you want reviewed.

Yes.

- Make no more than 3 requests within one week.

Yes.

- Only 1 audio request a week!

No. You're allowed up to 3 like all the rest, but 1 of them will be reviewed the week after you requested it, and the other extra one or two (depending on whether you requested 2 or 3 submissions respectively) would be reviewed the week after that. That's why we invented the Extra Audio Requests method; to still accept 3 audio requests but also give us less audio all in one week and give us more time to review.

- Do us a favour and respond to our reviews.

Not obligatory, but yeah, that'd be nice.

- Be patient. Due to the points system, you may not see reviews until up to two weeks after you request.

Unless it's more than 1 audio request, that is. Then you should see one of your requests 1-2 weeks after you requested it, and the others 2-3 weeks after.

- Do NOT request without posting a link.

Yeah...

- Do NOT just say "Review everything" or just link to your profile.

Yes.

- Do NOT request reviews for the same submission more than once.

Duh :P.

General Rules for New Reviewers:
If you are planning on completing requests, please do the following:
- Post in this thread to let us know you'd like to join.
- Understand the points system and keep track of your own score. You will only be added to the list if you post your own score within the first week.

That's all correct, except while you were gone a new rule was introduced that first you have to pass judgement from one of our members until you can start reviewing for the club, so you may want to add it there.

Points:
**Please also keep track of your own points. If you see something missing, it's probably a mistake**

As if anyone does that :P. It's not the end of the world if the updater makes a mistake on your stats; after all it's just a few points for the club.

**To be on the list, you must make at least one review, posters only will not be counted**

Yeah, but from then on, you can stay on the list by posting only, right?

5 points for a review on a requested movie/game

Yeah...

7 points for a review on a requested audio

That's new O.o. This is a rule from the old club, I think, and I don't know if we should add it to this new one or not. I personally disagree with it, since because audio has now become much more popular than art/flash, it seems useless giving extra points to something that there's so much to review of.

+1 point for putting "Review Request Club" at the bottom of a requested review

Yes.

3 points for posting at least once throughout the week

Yes.

5 points for referring a new member (must mention you in first post)

Yes.

7 points for reviewing all requests/recommendations for that week

Yes.

Club updates
Each Sunday or Monday, Supersteph54 currently create a list of all the members, counting up their points, calculating various stats and him or another member would post a list of requested submissions. Assuming you review the submissions listed, you will get points for them on the following members' update, 6 or 7 days later.

Corrections made ^.

On Thursday, Bezman currently creates a list of all requests and recommendations made up until then, since the previous thursday. This can be seen as a 'preview' of the list that will accompany the following members' update on Sunday/Monday. The points for these are tallied 10 days later.

That doesn't happen anymore...

FAQ
Should we have a FAQ?
I don't know. It kinda seems like overkill.

Should I link to the club in my sig?
There's no obligation to do so, but it's certainly appreciated. Remember that you can put a high number in place of the page number in the url and if that page doesn't exist yet, NG will take you to the latest page, whatever it is.

So if you link to: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/4834 48/999
then anyone following that link will always see the latest page.

I don't understand what recommendations are all about!
As mentioned under this section in each list, 'You may make a recommendation if you reviewed 100% of the previous weeks requests and recommendations. It should be over 3 days old and have under 50 reviews.'

As long as your name is on the last 'All requests completed' list, feel free to recommend something you've enjoyed from the portal.

You could use this to let us know about something you think is specially awesome, yet overlooked. If there aren't many game or movie requests, maybe you could make a recommendation so we have something to review.

Does the Review Request Club review stuff for non-NG stuff?
Short answer: no.

Long answer: Milinko used to include youtube requests in the list of requests, but the introduction of a points system didn't leave room for such things. You can request reviews here, but some of us may not have accounts on Myspace/Youtube/whatever or may simply be disinclined to review things outside NG. It wouldn't get nearly as much attention compared to if it were a NG submission.

I'd suggest putting songs on the AP, then making a request that way. It lets us give feedback whilst staying on our favourite site. ;-)

Yes to everything in the FAQ, except that you should add the question "Do I have to review ALL the submissions listed?" and answer as "No, as many as you're comfortable with" or something. Anyway, in short, I'd suggest removing some stuff, adding some others and editing this a little to fit the new club rules. Unless of course someone wants to stick with the old rules...

Anyway, I was just about to go on this thread to post that I've started working on the spreadsheets for the list, since I think Sonofkirk left NG forgetting to send me the spreadsheets :P. Not much of a problem, they're not too hard to make, and I've almost finished them. Expect the update tomorrow, or maybe even Wednesday if I really have a lot to do.

Sorry for the double post, but while I was doing the spreadsheets, I found out that I don't really get what the 'Average per member' and 'Average per request' statistics are. Can someone explain, please?

Ima start criticizing XD.

Don't be too harsh. We came up with this club info in the old thread. :P
Thanks for reposting this, SCTE3!

But what if the next week is loaded with audio requests as well. Wouldn't it be better to have something like a queue for requests per user? So, a user requests 3 audio reviews, but only one makes the list in week 1, the second requests is added to the list in week 2 and the third is added in week 3.
Of course, this would mean extra work for the one who does the request lists.

- Do us a favour and respond to our reviews.
Not obligatory, but yeah, that'd be nice.

We are all statwhores (or, most of us ^^) and responses is one of the nicest stats. Plus it helps the reviewer to get better. Some authors review the review, which is a nice way to help the reviewer improve his reviews. ^^
(wow, I never used the word "review" so often in a sentence. -.-)

- Do NOT request reviews for the same submission more than once.
Duh :P.

Hey, some users do that... :P

Well, it was some sort of unwritten rule in the old club as well. Because we value quality over quantity we rather have only a few members who write long and helpful reviews instead of a whole bunch of reviewers who only write one liners.

Points:
**Please also keep track of your own points. If you see something missing, it's probably a mistake**
As if anyone does that :P. It's not the end of the world if the updater makes a mistake on your stats; after all it's just a few points for the club.

The points are a nice addition, it gives you that little extra motivation to do all the reviews. Also, in the old club some users did keep track of their own scores. But I trust the ones who update the lists. XD

**To be on the list, you must make at least one review, posters only will not be counted**
Yeah, but from then on, you can stay on the list by posting only, right?

Yeah, that was a rule introduced by milinko, even before I first joined the club. I guess there where some people who said "I join", but then never did any reviews.

Yes, it's a rule from the old club. Audio requests where rare and members who did audio reviews even rarer. So milinko gave out extra points for audio requests so members had an incentive to do those audio reviews. But now audio reviews give only 5 points as well.

Yes, the FAQ needs to be updated a bit. I think I can do that tomorrow and post a new plaintext version of it.

Just some statistics. "Average per member" is "total amount of reviews done by mebers divided by total nunber of members" and "average per request" is "number of members who have reviewed a requested flash/audioo/art divided by total number of members".

It's just some nice stats to play around with, you can leave them out if you want to.
