Yeah, that sucks. Luongo carried the Canucks far more than Marty did :P

I thought that Stastny had an outside shot at it, though Malkin really deserves it.

- Crosby won the Hart

The New York Islanders have welcomed back Sean Bergenheim, signing the 23-year-old left wing to a one-year deal.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 22nd overall draft selection in 2002, Bergenheim spent last season in Europe, playing nine games with Russian club Yaroslavl before joining Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League.

also, this:

Though they publicly say the defenseman is not on the trading block, word is the Philadelphia Flyers are shopping Joni Pitkanen.

Four to five teams are reportedly doing background work on the Finn, who broke into the NHL with a bang, but had his play tail off last season in Philly.

Yeah, smart idea, Flyers staff.

Rebuilding = trading off your best defensive player?

So they've got to wait a year before realising their mistake like Florida (who made up for losing out on Luongo)

Just for any of you not in the know, Florida acquired Tomas Vokoun from Nashville.

They'd be on the hook for 66% of his salary anyway. It's worth the 2~ mil they'd save by buying him out to pray he lucks into his old form. even if he is relegated to the backup role, they'd only end up saving a total of 1.25 mil by buying him out, when you factor in the cost of getting another goalie to back up BUDAIIIIIII.

So yea, I cant really blame them if they hang on.

Well, basically what we've got to do is live with the decision that we made. It's a really bad decision at the moment, because he's not playing well, but here's a little scenario for you:

1) Budaj starts next season as the Avs number 1 goalie, picks up a few wins and the Avs are playing well (Long shot, I know) He gets injured.

2) Theodore steps in and starts playing like he's our number 1 goalie and carries us deep into the playoffs.

What do we do then?

I'd just keep up with it on the internet. Youtube and nhl.com give plenty of highlights and there's always enough articles on various american and canadian sport websites to keep yopu up to speed.

So it's MacInnis, Stevens, Francis and Messier getting into the HOF this year.

Way to snub Oates. >:I

Stevens,

Gritty defenseman, pretty good offensively with the Caps and Blues before Jaques Lemaire told him to concentrate on the defensive aspects

Francis

Fourth leading scorer of all time, second only to The Gret One in assists (1,249) to me, he seemed like one of the nicer guys, not made big-headed by his skills and abilities.

and Messier getting into the HOF this year.

Now that's a shock :P 6 Stanley Cups, the first 4 with Gretzky in Edmonton, the fifth without 99, but still in Edmonton. He was one of the mainstays in the 1994 championship side for the New York Rangers. The only player in NHL history to captain 2 Stanley Cup winning Franchises.

Way to snub Oates. >:I

That's a tough call for Adam Oates. He's a great player in his own right, but maybe the voters were feeling that 4 was enough to induct

Generally, 4 is the max they'll induct in one year.

But anyway.

Apparently, Nikolai Khabibulin is on the block, because only now did the Blackhawks realize paying him $6.5 million a year to play on a horrible team was pointless when they could use Patrick Lalime, get somewhat the same results, and at a fraction of the cost.

Rafalski is apparently going to re-up with the Devils, and Daniel Briere is going to test the FA waters. The Bruins, Kings, and Blues are all looking into making an offer to Ray Emery.

And apparently our management still doesn't know how to correctly offer deals, as we've reportedly offered Ryan Smyth $6 million per for 7 or 8 years. Rididculous.

also lol Keith Tkachuk.

Not that I'm aiming to twist the knife here (much) but we snapped Ryan Smyth up for a 5 Year contract. He's already got 270 Goals and 564 points in his career, so can he be the start of something nice again in Denver? $31.25m over 5 years says yes.

We've also found ourselves a nice solid defenseman in Scott Hannan, who we signed with us hours before Smyth stole the spotlight.

Also I think the Rangers are building up a solid Stanley Cup team now, Signing former cup champions Chris Drury and Scott Gomez.

Eugh. Well, at least we didn't sign Ryan Smyth to something big, though it would've been better had we kept Nilsson and O'Marra, and our 1st round pick. :I

Predators signed Jed Ortmeyer for two years and $1.5 million
Penguins signed Peter Sykora to a two-year deal
Capitals signed Michael Nylander to a four-year deal

Also, I don't get the logic in the signings of both Drury and Gomez.

Now they have too many centers (Gomez, Drury, Straka, Cullen, Prucha). Will they move Prucha to the 3rd line as a winger, considering they lost Jed Ortmeyer to Free Agency, and may lose Brendan Shanahan as well, depending on whether or not they re-sign him?

Pretty crazy though, a possible line of Shanahan-Gomez-Jagr and Avery-Drury-Callahan/Prucha.

also, the Canadiens signed Roman Hamrlik to a four-year deal. A sign of things to come? :3

Neck breaker bert and may gun giv it to ya.

As if the Duckds weren't villians enough already. :\

also, the Smyth to avs is a joke. First of all, why? Offense wasn't their problem last year, it was laughable goaltending. Hannan's prty good, but he won't cover for the budai-theo tag team of shit.

Second of all, smyth has put up incredibly mediocre numbers throughout his career. Avs fans will lament the deal near the end.

Also oh snap kings. If cloutier decides to not be terrible next year they might make a run..

Use the resources you have to obtain the resources you need.

Budaj is coming of age and will only get better. The less said about Theodore, the better. Smyth will give us a few more offensive options, which you can never get enough of intoday's NHL :P

Our Defense isn't the best in the world - we made a couple of bad decisions, for example trading Derek Morris away. We've got some decent players there who can form the defensive core with Hannan, Leopold and Liles. I'm not saying it's perfect, nothing ever is, but it's a start and silly season is still very young.

Second of all, smyth has put up incredibly mediocre numbers throughout his career. Avs fans will lament the deal near the end.

If he played 82 games last year, he was on pace for 78 points. It's not that bad and it would have tied him for third on the team. Maybe security will help him to put up some better numbers this year. He'll spend most of his time playing alongside Svatos or Hejduk on the Right, with either Sakic or Stastny to Center the line. We'll see what the year brings for him and us.

Devils signed Dainus Zubrus to a six-year, $20.4 million deal...LOL
Devils signed Karel Rachunek
Wild signed Eric Belanger for three years and $5.25 million
Kings signed Brad Stuart for one year and $3.5 million
Canucks signed Curtis Sanford for one year and $600,000
Canucks signed Byron Richtie and Brad Isbister
Oilers signed Mathieu Garon to a two-year deal

Really bad move by the Devils, imo. Is Zubrus really worth $4 million a year until 2013? oh well. lollllz

They actually may not play him at center, so they say. Lamoriello wants to play either Parise or Zajac at 1st line center, and move Zubrus to Parise's wing spot, so i've heard. So potentially, their first line would be Zubrus-Parise-Langenbrunner.

A nice line, but isn't that approximately where the Devils quality skaters ends? I thought they'd been haemorhaging talent over this silly season.

Elias? Gionta? Zajac? Maybe even Mogilny, though I'm not 100% sure what his deal is. Lamoriello is probably one of the sharpest guys in hockey, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Devils managed to win the division again, even with Philadelphia's little spending spree. You can never count out a team with Brodeur, though it must hurt losing your best defencemen 3 years in a row.
