Very cool! I wonder if I'd seen this at all before... what happens if you try to jack in on the main page - is this somehow linked to NG? Or NG Logs? Back-end?

There is no direct integration with the NG website. The tool functions by scraping people's profiles, which is one of the reasons it takes so long to do its thing. I have requested API access, but it is extremely low on their list of priorities, so I wouldn't hold anyone's breath.

Deploy the... it's a yellow button... it's usually flashing... it makes the engines go... whoosh!

So then what does the password field do here exactly? If it scrapes public profiles it'd need no password would it? I'm hesitant to actually try logging in on an external source without encryption, though suppose it just may not work at all then...

Considering NG removed the official Stats page back in the day I've always wondered what the official stance is on things like this - I suppose the priority of API access very much balances on that. Yet we do have official Rankings, so maybe the stats stance is a conflicted one. Too much official encouragement for gains in all areas and there's potential for abuse, too little and you lose the sense of reward and gamification that's been such an integral part of NG all these years.

Hope you do get it eventually anyhow, seems it'd make this easier to maintain too, no issue if layout elements a crawler's coded for change overtime, faster and better in all ways.

It protects the program functions, don't want to have public access to buttons that can affect the database.

See my news post with medal hunting links and tools. I made a program NGMedals that finds your statistics and unearned medals.

There is also a browser script.

Ah it's an admin thing, gotcha.

Seemed akin to regular user login, NG Logs style.

Now where are your manners folks? Why isn't anybody congratulating @Amereep - the new champion? I had to get out for a moment from my too-busy-with-life almost-retirement, because otherwise that fact would pass unnoticed.

And so R.I.P. my title reign: 6th February 2021 - 16 May 2024.

3 years and 3 months. Not bad!

Now behave yourself: hail to the new king!

Congrats @Amereep!

A few years ago I wouldn't have thought anyone would ever surpass @Nijsse in the first place, now look at all of y'all... leading the charge; fighting for the throne; amassing some pretty amazing numbers.

The king is dead (not really just going with that old saying @HerbieG); long live the king!

For the Top 50 there's always the official one: https://www.newgrounds.com/rankings/medals

There's also this: https://www.wkrconcepts.com/nglogs/index.php?id=lists

yoooo i'm on the board that's crazy.

i feel like i haven't been actively collecting medals for that long (maybe a couple years), so i wasn't expecting to be up there.

my account is way older because i joined around middle school, then completely forgot about it until years later;

then i just happened to remember my password somehow, and here i am lol

Hey indeed you are! You must have been collecting 'em pretty consistently to get that high up! If this list was active you'd probably have been in the top toppers/gainers mentions quite a bit... the official rankings are nice and all, but I do miss this community involvement factor there.

Glad you remembered! It's cool to see OGs keep re-discovering this place; coming back. NG's on the rise again...

Ok, since we are talking about this thread, before going back to my grave maybe I'll try to fix one thing.

@TomFulp - I know you haven't seen me for months already, but be afraid of no ghosts! I got a question: would it be possible for you to help @Bobogoobo and make this thread alive again? I mean by giving him access to some "core" NG tools, logs maybe?

Congrats Amereep!! That's a big gain since the last update. Glad you were able to check in and bring attention to that, Herbie.

I wish I knew why something suddenly changed in the program, but even without any internal tools, I have a couple ideas to get it working again. It's just a matter of finding time to work on it and triple checking that I don't break anything! That said, I'm always 100% in favor of a public or semi-public API for statistical projects and other tools.

Oh - and as for Nijsse - he actually made a brief return, but I noticed he earned some of the newest medals in February. When I noticed him on one of the leaderboards I just went "Holy shit" because that would be really a big thing if he would return full-time. He would probably eat both PhantasyReal and NeonSpider alive in a short period of time with the amount of games he did not play for all these years he was absent.

Seems currently the bar for entry (as per the last update) is 127,670 points, so you need just a bit more to qualify. ;)

Unfortunately updates have also been on pause here for a while now, issue with the script that fetches these stats, hopefully it's back on track soon. You can also see the top 200 on NG Logs here, though included users aren't exactly the same, maybe this'll be back and running when you're ready to be on it!

Congrats on the 100k though! Massive amount.

I scored 128,090 medal points, include me in the ranking???

The only problem with this list is that it does not exclude cheaters that have been removed here or even from the official ranking.

IMO it's not a downside that NG logs specifically does show everyone though. It feels like more so a factual reference than a community ranking, that simply shows how you compare to others that choose to log their stats, whatever their history. Whether caretakers of community lists like this then choose to hide users or no seems best left to their judgement, not least since there's always the potential for a certain bias in exclusion. To me at least NG Logs has always felt like a source. Unmodified; unrestricted; objective; free for all. For whomever it is that wishes to access and track their stats, rather than the collective.

I do hope the medal points users list gets back on track eventually too though! This feels like a different thing.

NG Logs is like the thing a thing like this could be based upon, with custom caretaking and contending for an optimal user experience then.

i don't exactly actively put effort into farming medals. i have a whole bunch of games bookmarked that i want to get around to playing eventually, but usually i just check what's new and stick to that.
in that sense, thanks to pixel day, there's been a lot of games to go through;
though i can't exactly say i've been enjoying my time with them much: aside from a few gems, most of the recent games with medals are either way too shitpost-y for my liking, or they're 3d games that require mouse movement (which i'm currently unable to play due to missing one atm).
even though i'm getting quite a few medals from them, i can't say i'm making any "meaningful" progress because i feel like i would have never bothered playing most of these otherwise.

when i make pseudo-guides for some medal games it's usually because i enjoyed them enough to bother putting in extra effort into them, while also helping others who like me enjoy collecting medals for no reason.
because i haven't seen anything in particular lately that quite grabbed my attention, i've been going back to previous games i left unfinished, though i haven't really worked on any of those either because i've been somewhat busy IRL.

so yeah, just wandering around here every now and then with no real objective;
which is when i was reminded of this thread and decided to check what's been going on lately

yeah i've been kind of a gamer lately lol.

i usually just browse new games and try to clear them out as much as i can, so i reckon it's just an issue of "not enough information being available".

i'm sure after some time passes, someone will come up with some way to make them easier to get.

it's usually just an issue of how many people have been playing a specific submission.

if it's not something skill-based feel free to send me a DM if you need help with something and i'll see what i can do.

that IS skill-based so i can't exactly "help" with that, though i can record myself playing through them and send them over if it's helpful.

might just take some time because getting under S-rank time is real rough, especially on hard
