In mostly unrelated news, I've spent the last 20 minutes or so watching gameplay of Fig. 8 and I think I've found a path that allows you to play almost the entire game on a single multiplier, which would end up being something like 3500x by the time you get to the duck-hook near the end. I don't have time to do it now, but at some point next week I may build a giant map of the game and trace out my potential route (I'm not skilled enough to play for it myself). In the meantime, let me link up to the following videos and hopefully explain it:
Part 1:
2:57: If you're not comfortable taking that giant loop around the bottom, I've found you can actually take the standard route and go between the 6 and the diagonals next to it without breaking your multiplier.
5:17 - 5:27: Rather than hanging out near the checkpoint, you can get between the B toward the right and its line, which will line you up to take the narrow path between the small rocks next to the 6 and 5 and the large rocks to their right. This keeps you in line for the next part. It may be beneficial to take the lefthand path around the building at 5:05 rather than the right, as you could go between the B at its bottom left corner and its line and then immediately turn left to get between the C and its line, which may line you up better for making the turn past the B at 5:17
5:49: From there, go to the left of the observatory rather than the right. This will let you keep your multiplier, and from there you can get in the same position at 6:06 and catch up with the video.
Part 2:
Right at the beginning, rather than hugging that building, swing out to the left. At 0:09, go between the F and the corner it's next to, and you'll already be in line to continue the multiplier where the video picks it back up. Then just follow the video all the way to 4:58, and hopefully you'll have done the entire map with a purple line behind you.
Now, if you're making sparks, you can actually lose your purple line but not your multiplier, and as long as you've got that purple behind you again before you stop with the sparks you'll keep the multiplier where it is. With that in mind, I have a much worse idea for maybe getting a single multiplier all the way from start to finish:
Keep the purple all the way to 5:12, and then spark along the corner of the J, picking up your purple as you exit from it. When you get to the vertical line, hook around it to go straight down, which may keep you sparking until you get the purple back. Then take the lower path at 5:20, and if all's gone well you'll finish with a multiplier somewhere around 4000x, and an unbelievably massive score.
Anyone got the patience to try it out?
