Good day to you!

Recently I have been developing a new program. But not a normal program... It's a program that tells you when there are new entries in the portal! From now on, you won't miss a single Blam or Save anymore! I have called...

PORTAL GUARD!

When Portal Guard is running, the Portal page will be retrieved every X seconds, and the data will be analyzed. Actually, the Under Judgement entries will be counted every time the data is pulled and then compared to the previous data. If there are more UJ entries than before, you'll see a notice like MSN's (and AIM) appearing in the TOP right corner.

Other features include the time of appearance of the entries, the 10 last data pulls and the specs of the new entries, but that's not really important.
When minimized, Portal Guard will automatically be added in your system tray, while still running strong!

As you can hear, this tool is a dream for stat whores! In theory, you won't miss any other B/P point in your life! Portal Guard tells you when they come, and it's up to you to catch them!

I don't think there's any bugs left (there WERE a lot, trust me), but if you find important ones, PM or mail me.

Anyway, I think it's not too bad as it is now! Why don't you try it out and tell me what you think! Be sure to follow the installation instructions or it will fail! If you are prompted something about overwriting system files or shit, click IGNORE! And if it doesn't work afterwards... PM me, but I can't promise anything.

Don't worry if nothing happens, the Portal is pretty slow right now. You should see the notices fly by soon enough.

Oh well, have fun with it! AND CATCH THOSE POINTS!!

That's a pretty cool idea. Now, if only Tom Fulp for the redesign, would turn the latest submissions list into an RSS feed, that would be awesome and make it easier to work with.

Got it now, looks snazzy. What did you use to write the program? Looks like Visual Basic on crack.

Same. I prefer to watch them. Stats over the internet never interested me it's not like there's anyone to prove anything to lol.

One day back seems the mod's are living up to their image. Heh.

Testimony

I am a Stat-Whore, I quit once but when I came back the addiction was too strong. I had to take it up again. And with the NGLogNGLog and now Portal Guard I was just overcome with the passion of staring at the screen for hours on end....

Thankyou Casualty!

That is amazing, too bad I'm not that interested in B/P points. But, good job!

Hey! This thing works well.

Setup is a bit baffling with the Ignore thing but otherwise its working well.

Response to Introducing: Portal Guard! 2007-03-18 09:33:41

I ain't lazy to go to the portal and see if there is any under judgement flash.

It doesen't work for me anyway.

To the admins: The only interaction with Newgrounds is the retrieving of the Portal page, every X seconds. I don't think it's too much of a strain for NG, but if you think it is, I have put a function allowing me to disable the program whenever it is needed.
Unfortunately, I was only able to implant this function a moment after the first post and some people probably got the unprotected version. I don't believe there are to many though...
Anyway, everything is under control now.

The only thing that I don't like about this is where the slider shows up. I think bottom right would be a better place. If I was the stat whore I was, then I would probably be using it non stop. But since I slowed down with the b/p, I don't really have a need for it. But I will keep it installed.

Didn't Denvish make something similar to this a while back and got busted for it?

I hope the same doesn't happen to this.

Response to Introducing: Portal Guard! 2007-03-18 10:56:51

That's a neat idea.

Response to Introducing: Portal Guard! 2007-03-18 10:57:22

This is going to be extremely useful when I start b/ping for that final badge, the Elite Guard Supreme Commander.

This is awesome, way to go dude. :)

Yeah, my BP Helper was 1½+ years ago, when the servers and database were much ropier than they are now. Also, the big difference is that mine tried to pull the NEXT PID page, and opened the new page if it didn't return an error - which according to liljim was unnecessarily taxing on the database, particularly if the bot was being used by a lot of people. Fortunately, mine had the disable code in at the start, so when James asked me to pull the plug, it was easy to do.

It was on my suggestion that Casualty has put in the code to do the same, and I also suggested that he contact the admins to make sure they're OK with people using this program - I'm sure there still may be issues with numerous users doing pulls on the portal page every X seconds. Since Casualty has put in the disable option, I'm going to leave the thread open for now, but it may well be that if he meets disapproval from the admin team, you'll find your copy of the bot disabled and this thread locked. We'll see.

I thought this was going to be a very witty text infomercial on a fictional product, but nay. Just the thing for me too, being a stat whore.

I like this idea, but I'd rather do it the hardcore olskool way and keep watch on the Portal by myself. Nothing against your product - seriously, it's awesome, but I don't feel it's completely necessary for myself.

Great job though, Casualty. This is sure to help many young statwhores on their way to the top rank.

Which reminds me, I wonder if Afro will be using this? :P

Good thinking, just in case Wade were to call the FBI.
