While we can't stop users from trying to block our ads we will not tolerate discussions on how to do it. Newgrounds.com is a free website. The extra money we raise helps with upgrades for the site, larger prizes for Flash artists, etc. Users who try and find ways to block our ads and tell others how to block our ads are undermining Newgrounds and their actions should not be tolerated by anyone who is a fan of this site. The user who recently posted some ways to block our top banner ad has been banned for 30 days. Next time his account will be terminated if he feels the need to explain how to block ads. Blocking popups is one thing, but blocking banners is going to far. Popups are widely blocked these days and aren't an effective way to raise revenue, so we rely on the banners. If people start blocking them, WTF!? We'll make no money and the site will go out of business. It's VERY expensive to run a site like Newgrounds.com.
Look at television, you have to sit through 3-5 minutes of ads every 10-15 minutes of a show. On Newgrounds there is just an ad embedded into the page. Is it really that big of a deal that people need to find ways to block it?
Think of the ads as you free pass to Newgrounds. If we pull the ads we'd have to charge everyone a subscription. Our audience would shrink drastically and that would destroy the whole benefit of Newgrounds, which offers a huge audience to anyone who wants to submit Flash here.
Users who see someone talking about blocking ads on Newgrounds should publically condone the person suggesting it and they should be reported to the mods or myself.
