Portal Voting

We would like to take this time to thank all our dedicated users who take the time to view all the entries that come into the Newgrounds Flash Portal and cast their votes, submit reviews, and help blow the whistle on Flash entries! If you would like to help out with this, all you need is a FREE NG account and head to the PORTAL.

However, we have been aware of some users abusing our system. They think it is fun to rack up the BLAM and SAVE points we award to our users who take the time to help filter through all the content. These people have been voting on entries without watching them in hopes of increasing their point totals. Well, we have news for you, we know who you are and are watching.

So know this, those users who we catch doing this will have ALL of their BLAM and SAVE points removed. If you continue we will take away experience points and possibly terminate your account all together.

We aren't telling anyone how to vote! You should vote however you feel, but you have to watch the entry before you vote on it! The people who contribute to our site work very hard on their entries (well the people who submit quality content anyway) and they don't deserve to have people casting an uninformed vote on their entry! We will do whatever we have to do to make sure our contributors get a fair and honest vote!

If you are reading this and are ashamed of the behavior of these individuals you can help by going to the Portal, watching the under judgment entries, and casting your informed vote!

Keep in mind that NO ONE will be spared. We don't care if you have 30,000 BLAM and SAVE points. If we see you cutting corners we will punish you, as you do not deserve the rewards we have given you.

If you have done this in the past, or are doing this currently, you must stop NOW. We won't go back and punish previous offenders, we will only punish users who continue this behavior from this point forward!

Basically this is against people that votes with a 5 on something just because it was made by a "peer"? (Massive voting)

They don't watch the entry. They just vote all O's, or all 5's, or they look at the author's batting average and cast a vote based on that, etc. All they want is to rack up the points as fast as possible.

Yea, I pretty much stopped doing the whole blam/protect thing a while ago because of this very reason. I didn't like the fact that the ratio of horrible movies to decent ones was like 100:1 and I couldn't stand watching through all of them, so I stopped voting on UJ flash.

Maybe in a couple of months I'll start again.

How exactly do you plan on catching these users? I'm curious to the coding system that would catch the person, I'm sure there is a way, I'm just not familiar with it.

I'm a big B/P activist, and most of the time I actually wait for the movie to load and then vote on it before voting. However, when I view a movie which is 4.0KB and has "lol watch vote 5" in the Author's Comment Box, I tend to just give it an automatic 0 and/or blow the whistle on it, if it's incredibly stupid (like a hentai picture).

I can't give away all our secrets. :) However, it's not very hard to know who's not watching something before they vote.

Okay, so every vote is logged. That doesn't exactly incriminate the user. Are you just looking for people who vote 0 on every single engry they vote on?

I'm betting their system records every vote and assigns them to the user who voted it. I'm also sure they can check voting patterns against batting averages of the users who submitted the flash the questionable user is voting on. I wouldn't be surprised if they could cross reference every stat with what it refers to, and even ones that you guys don't know about. For ex: they could probably check every 0 vote you ever made and if it fit a certain pattern then they would know you were cheating the system.

They would also know if you were voting poorly by checking the time in between each vote. If it is like 20-30 seconds in between each vote for long periods of time the admins will surely know that you can't possibly be watching the movies you are voting on.

Even though I stopped voting/watching, it does get annoying when you can't watch a movie because it gets blammed before you get to it.

It's a common sense rule that people should view a movie first before voting on it.

NG News is at the top of every spot on the BBS, and on top of that, if the people are voting improperly, then they will have it coming to them.
