Reviews for "Pandemic: EoM"

I thought that this game was

This version is way better than #1 cuz it was harder to infect water systems and airports.Overall:The game did lack easier gameplay (for the noobs!!!)but held its own.If you do a third make difficulty settings!!!

not bad

This wasn't a bad game. I liked the slightly different approach to this one, but I do think that you sacrificed some neat features you had in the first. So, for the record, here's a side by side comparison of the major differences (maybe this will also help get people to shut up about one being so much superior than the other, when the fact is, they're just different).

Pandemic 1:

Pros: The variety of traits and symptoms, the "visibility" stat, stats in general are easy to understand, the other countries mostly ignore you until they've been infected.

Cons: Public transportation/airports close without any notceable correlation, 8 regions, the points system is buggy (I often find that I never get more than the initial three points, or that depending on whether the disease is limited to humans or not can affect it), the game doesn't stop when no more progress can be made (if you clicked to continue after the first country closed its borders), West europe tends to be nearly impossible to infect, though if you do manage to get in there, you're basically garaunteed to win.

Pandemic 2:

Pros: The "resistance" feature and combatting cures, the airports and water systems can be targeted directly, more regions

Cons: The levels don't atually seem to correspond to anything, points build up very slowly, Greenland/Australia extremely hard to infect consistently, give us a control to shut off the music; its not bad, but does get annoying, most of the game seems pointlesly random.

Now, that all being said, I think both games are very solid in terms of general design and fairly intuitive, the concept alone is neat. I suppose my biggest complaint is that strategy seems mostly ineffective. On the one hand, I can see tht as being a bit more "true to life" but on the other, can lead to quite a deal of frustration. Like all games, trying to balance reality and playabilty can be tricky but I think you've found a fairly good balance, if one or two adjustments are made. Essentially, if you can bring back the features we liked from the first and cut back on the randomness, you'll have a solid 10.

Randomness.

I think this game is great; there is more control over the virus than the older one. Biggest problem is the overbearing amount of randomness.

Sometimes, infections will occur by wildfire, other times, not so much. Curve the randomness a little bit so that strategy prevails a LITTLE more.

That being said, strategy and a whole bucket load of luck will get you places in this game.

Too reliant on random chance.

It's good, a good idea and well put together, except the pure randomness negates most of the strategy. I honestly didn't see any difference gameplay wise from a level 1 infectibility and level 4 infectibility. Would be nice if the stats actually had an obvious effect. Maybe if you input a "Chance of success to infect" when you clicked on a neighboring nation or something. Just something that shows what leveling up each stat ACTUALLY does. ^_^

Good game, which would have got it a max score, but the frustration from the random chance really hit it hard.

Aha Good Addition once you learn

When I first started I didn't notice you could infect neighboring countires =P. I finished with a score of high 500's putting me in the top scores not bad considering it's on the front page.

I've noticed many people complaining about the degree of difficulty but it's really simple once you addopt a plan. Personally on my first turn I ALWAYS add 1 to infectivity and 1 to drug resistance, I hit next turn and then add another point to infectivity. With my remaining points I spread the virus in the current country, end turn, spread, untill it's completely infected, I then infect one surrounding country and infect it's entire population, then the next and so on and so forth.

Once you have the entire population of all the surrounding countires infected go to the country with the highest living population infect the airport and hope i it hits another continent, just reapeat untill you get another country, infect it's entire population infect surrounding countires airport. The only trouble is to know when to attack the cure, I usually attack once it's been 5 or so turns at 3/5ths complete. The rest you can figure out.

Great Game though, much more replay value then the last, this one was considerably more strategy and less luck, even though each infet is a roll of the dice. The graphics need work and so does the sound. One short loop gets rather frustrating if your playing the game more than once. I found myself muting the sound. The gameplay is good I just wish water infectivity was more helpful, never seemed to do much.

Overall improve the graphics and the sound and you got one hell of a game (I noticed on your site your looking for artists, so at least your taking the inntaitive)
