Reviews for "Osiris II"

Fast-Moving

Graphics - You could tell it was drawn out.
Style - Side-scrolling shooter. What more is there to say?
Sound - The music came through, but the FX was a little off-timing.
Violence - Side-scrolling shooter. Not too bloody.
Interactivity - It definitely gets you involved.
Humor - What's the funny part of a shooter?

The speed with which the controls and the game worked together was a bit quirky. It was a neat idea, and the basic use of the keyboard and mouse was fairly easy to grasp.

ChromeShark responds:

I hope most people can grasp the controls, its pretty intuitive when you get the hang of it. If the FX are off-time it's probably just lag, I don't have that problem myself. Thankyou for the review.

bah

This game is not uniformly slow or fast. As you said in an earlier review, parts of it are running as fast as Flash can handle. Well, guess what... my computer can handle a lot, with the result that the whole thing is much too fast. You can't barely see where you're going before you get there. More on that, the vertical scrolling is poor--you can't see below you. The horizontal scrolling has the opposite problem, that it follows you around constantly, so that the screen never holds still. You should have a threshold (like other scrolling games do) so that if you move around in the center of the screen, it doesn't scroll horizontally. Also I dislike the feel of the game. My character does not seem fully connected to the ground; she's often just above or below the floor instead of directly on it, and there's no sound for when she plants her feet on a platform. Her run animation is very sloppy, so she looks like she's skating. You should make it so that if one foot touches the ground, it stays in the same place until it leaves the ground, instead of sliding forward. Her roll animation is physically impossible, as her head apparently passes through the floor. When you do a roll, it's your BACK that touches the ground, not your head. Her flips in midair are also not realistic--you have to tuck your arms and legs in. Also her jumps do not seem physically realistic--she bounces up and down much too quickly and her speed does not decrease as she gains altitude, she just reverses direction suddenly at the top of her jump.

A lot of work went into this, but these flaws hurt the gameplay.

ChromeShark responds:

It's funny that some people saw its all much too slow and some say it's too fast, it's hard to please everyone. But I really appreciate your comments, most people aren't specific enough to really help, but I will try and fix these things you mention for chapter III. Things like a landing sound, I didn't think of. The vertical scrolling is a technical problem that I will work on trying to make better. The rest of the things you mention are mostly just a case of putting a bit more time into the animations. Thanks a lot for your review.

It was good but...

After awhile it got repetitive.. And for pete sakes can you make the guns shoot jsut a little faster.. also try adding in a few more weapons maybe some frag grenades :P. Anyways It was a good game to kill time. Cheers!

ChromeShark responds:

Thanks for the review. I might be doing the combat pretty different for chapter III, I might be able to have some frag grenades in there though.

good

the only problem is that the person moves too quickly, and that the person moves too far with a press of the movement key

ChromeShark responds:

Yeh you're right, it's mainly due to their being no acceleration. The movement will be much improved for Osiris III. Thanks for the review.

For the most part, the good outweighed the bad. I will say that the worst thing was probably how the graphics weren't that good. I imagine any tomb related game starring a female will be compared to "Tomb Raider". Of course, this girl isn't as hot. I think the enemies are nicely designed. I like how you can switch weapons and have a decent amount of ammo.

Unfortunately, the gameplay isn't anything that unique. It did had some pretty interesting stuff going on, so I'll give this a pass. The sounds weren't bad either. It's pretty nice to be able to be able to move around well. You do go a bit too fast at times.
