Reviews for "NSG004: Pico Jr. Jr. 0.6"

it was okay

I started playing this game but i got bored really quickly. The levels were a little the same thing exact diffrent enemies. There was no sound for the guns shooting or getting hit. The artwork was good, the gameplay was also very good. Very original never seen something like this before. So good job

Bezman responds:

Yeah, well normally game mechanics don't vary /that/ much within a single game.

I had hoped the stompers and flyers would maintain your interest as they do need different tactics to overcome.

Glad you liked some of the elements though and I'll definitely try and put in more sounds for this year's version.

Good art

What I really enjoyed about this was the art. Alot of hand drawn feel to it which really got me going. The game was simplistic (I loved the body pick up move), but still fun. A bit tough for a one hit per kill though.

Overall, great art and an easy to use system... but something I could only kill a couple of minutes on.

Thanks for the review!

Glad you enjoyed some aspects and hopefully this year's version will keep you more engrossed!

^^Good Points^^
Neat graphics. The background looked like a scanned image or something, which made for a pretty cool effect. The animations were cool, graphics were definitely above average in this game.

^^Needs Improving^^
I really tried to understand how to play this one, but it was really confusing to me. I read the directions, but still I'm not sure exactly how to play this game. Shooting in the right direction seems to be a little strange to me, overall a strange game. Could also use a few more sound effects.

Thanks a lot!

I'm generally apprehensive about my art, so it's good to hear folk liked it.

You don't fire when you click - you fire on the next beat of the music. Next time there'll be commentary and hopefully better instructions to explain things.

Thanks for the input!

Nice Game

-Good-
I liked the graphics in this game. I was quite fond of the backgrounds and how they looked like colored pencils. I also liked how they resembled "Pico School". The music was a nice choice. I liked the idea of using human shields. My favorite part had to be the hilarious "Game Over" pics you used when you died. I liked how you had a different pic for each way you could die.

-Bad-
One thing I didn't like was how you could only shoot left and right. It was hard to shoot the bouncing oppnents because you had to keep moving backwards to avoid them from falling on you and you could either walk under those huge machines or into another enemy. I would of liked if it was kinda like "Thing Thing" were you could shoot in many directions.

-Overall-
Great game

Thanks a lot!

The music was made by the awesome Jadan Paluck (Zenon) specially for the game.

Glad you liked the art. The new background's even better!

The shooting left/right is part of the game's principle and won't change. I just wanted to make a game with 1-dimensional game mechanics and if it was 2-D and not rhythm-based, then shooting bullets out the air wouldn't be so feasible.

Pretend that in this game, Pico Jr Jr is too weak to raise a gun at an angle.

Sad that I'm not gonna change the one 'bad' thing you mentioned, but hopefully we can change bits and bobs to get you liking it a bit more.

Stay funky!

A good effort, but work required

A neat game, I quite like it. I think that you could do with some more work on it, maybe quieten the music a tad, add sound effects for the bullets etc. Maybe even add animation of the bullets trajectory, since I wasn't even on the same screen as the enemies and they were killing me (maybe I'm just incompetant)

Still, I like it, it is very similar to one of the games that Tom has written, so you lose style points there. Don't let that get you down, as you're good at this sort of thing.

Bezman responds:

Cheers man.

We never got around to the sfx last time. That'll be a priority.

I like the idea of showing where the bullet came from, but as the arrows warn you of the direction anyway, it's low priority.

Ta again!
