Bravo, Ola Bergner. You've Raised the Bar.
First watching "Nim's Winter Tale" evoked many emotions and thoughts I've not felt since I first watched another animated masterpiece "Spirited Away". The whole aesthetic presentation of Nim's Winter Tale is a level of superbness rarely seen anywhere, Newgrounds or otherwise.
And it's not like Nim's Winter Tale is trying to impress you to try and get attention, it's more focused on using its art style effectively and cleverly to bring up the most emotion it can, as opposed to just showing off.
Every facet of this animation all ties into what makes it so powerful, nothing seems superflous or misplaced, it's all essential to the atmosphere. The musical store gives the animation an air of heartfelt innocence and whimsy, the visuals etch out their own sense of style that maintainss a fine balance between realism and abstraction, and the sparseness of dialogue until the very end, timed for perfect poignancy, lets the actions tell the story, a technique rarely done right.
Ola Bergner, a name that has easily become associated with genius.
