................"WAKE UP!"
I've been viewing Newgrounds flashes for quite some time now...and this particular entry prompted me to join, just so I could speak my mind about this portal entry.
Let's begin by being a real bastard, and pointing out the problems I found with this game.
1) Head in the Microwave? Freaky...but...somehow just didn't fit the style for me.
2) Metal sound effects for walking up wooden stairs.
3) Coming back from the tunnel, I had no option allowing me to go back through the original door.
4) When you revisit particular rooms, the events which did occur, (like smashing through the wooden wall), return to normal, as if it never happened.
I like to try and clear all the negative stuff first, in order for me to say how utterly impressed I was!
Ben Leffer, it was obvious you were an Evil Dead fan *pats him on the shoulder in agreement*, but despite the book rip-off...you game did freak the shit out of me...and very few things are able to do that to me!
Exmortis proves itself as a horror which doesn't over-use visual horror as a means to scare you. With combined effects of a discoloured looking house, and strange sounds lurking around the rooms you visit, as well as a few disturbing shocks strung up along the way, you feel very unnerved by visiting the rooms of the house...and you're constantly prepared to be frightened by "something"...
...constantly glued to the screen...
The style reminds you of "Silent Hill" combined with "Alone in The Dark 4". I am a very very big Silent Hill fan, and find this sort of horror disturbingly appealing.
For a first post, congratulations! I would actually like to speak to you personally at one point about your future projects, because I would gladly test any BETA versions out, or even offer opinions on your horror styles.
Don't give up making this style of game; I'll always be waiting for future entries!
Please get back to me.
