That is a lie and you know it, it is pretty obvious. I have the book and I am looking at the exact thing you traced, page 176 and page 126 I think it was.

"if i traced them they wouldof looked good" That's a silly thing to say, tracing doesn't make anything look good. In my oppinion, everything traced looks like butt. I'm sure it would've looked better if you did what the book said, and didn't just trace it.

Just admit it dude....no wait, just don't come here and say that you didn't trace it, 'cause you did. And yes, this IS a big fuckin' deal :)

It looks like a reference job to me, not a trace. The arms are too short in the first example and the second just looks too terrible.

Either way, the timing isnt his, the animation isnt his, the only thing that is his is the drawing, and thats plain and weak. If youre gonna trace animations to try and learn (which like never works) you shouldnt post them. Any criticism wont be usable, and any praise wont be directed at you, it will be at the animator (richard williams). Also, the first one would be better on twos, and the second one the timing is completely raped bacause fenix doesnt seem to understand easing and how to effectively break limbs. Its pretty hard.

Shutup man seriously. It's ironic that in that book towards the start he says he used to trace Disney characters for practice.

This is just Fenix practicing, what's the deal. Daagah, you're right I just checked them too.

watching that made me remember why i cant stand listening to those guys...but, with that out of the way, i think it is looking pretty good. Maybe you could add twiching to his eyes, just to give it that much more movement. and like Neashir said, maybe some slobering. I like the idea, and it does look very good, and i love the look in his face.

Have the light from the television flickering and play around with this in the shadows of the chair, have it jumping from side to side.

if i actually traced it i would admit, but this is bullshit
why the hell would i trace it when he specifically said that his tracing didnt do anything
i'm scanning the pages right now and lining up my art just to show you
i didnt even use the same timing as him on the first one, he used 16s and i used 8's

Response to Newground Artist showcase thread 2006-11-18 18:49:18

well, when i first seen it, i knew it was from the book. But, there is a big difference between stealing or tracing and just looking at an example and trying to do it yourself, which is all you did. Its what your supposed to do, i dont see why anyone would complaiun about it. Its people learn this stuff.

thanks

i dont know whether you guys were talking about me tracing the first one or the second one or both, but there no way i couldve traced the first one because mine is 16 frames long and he only shows 5 of his frames in the book, and i lined up the second one to the page: http://denvish.net/ulf/1163894622_walkcycle2. swf

Large sized brush with low flow for shadows (do some dark lines with small brush and high flow too, this'll make it look much better), and small brush with higher flow will do the trick.

Pretty damn smooth, good job. Polished up a bit they would make nice sprites for a game. =)

Even though you did not trace them, you still seemed to copy them pretty closely from "Animator survival kit", that doesn't really give you as much practice as it would be if you made up your own walking style.
Just try to come up with something like "Depressed old man with a limp" then try to create a walk for him.
