Due to factors outside his control, such as work, getting together with girlfriend and family to "do stuff" in real life, and the fact that he recently got into China Mieville after resisting for a few years (since his gf got into China's books), and thus read all 700+ pages of Perdido Street Station a couple weeks ago and then dove straight into the 650ish page sequel The Scar.... and various other factory factors.....

August's update has been cancelled.

JUST KIDDING. That was just to get you guys to loosen up a bit, plus now you'll be happy it's just delayed, not cancelled. Right? ... RIGHT? ;_;

Anyway, I actually did most of the data pull on 8/09 and 8/10, but I haven't had time to "finish checking profiles," plus I got like 150 new profile links from going through the ENTIRE TOP 500 EXP LIST from BBB's site a few weeks back, but haven't gotten their stats, just dumped the profile links in my spreadsheet.

Soooo... I dunno if I'm gonna include them in this update or wait till September. I do know that some of them had 1x10k, though. Didn't notice if any had 2x10k, cause I was in a hurry to just slap 'em in the file.

I'll get the datapulling finished Monday or Tuesday, and hopefully the update itself won't be too far afterwards. So, basically, could be a 8/09 update posted on Clock Day, 8/15. More of a delay in the update than in the data pull... but anywho.

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up rather than keep you in the dark all the way to the actual posting of the update.

Looks like I'm a little too late for Augusts update, but I'm really looking forward to Septembers.

Oooo... so much savely goodness. Speaking of which, the save average fell, but it's still above 10,000 (just barely... and HUSH YOU... :::looks at Elfer:::). BUT... the save percentage is actually UP, even while exp/posts/reviews lost percentage. Only blams and saves increased.

Also, some other awesomely nifty stat landmarks have been reached by all 108 of us. Blams broke 2,000,000, saves broke 1,000,000, total points broke 5,000,000.

Oh, and the review average slipped under 654, my review count. Meaning I'm finally above pentalist average for all 5 stats + overall. I'd been under for reviews all the time since I added reviews to the 10k+ list. NO LONGER. #;-}>

As you might have guessed by the extra delay all the way to Friday night on the list updateage, I did go ahead and check ALL FREAKIN' 150 NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SPREADSHEET. MOTHERFRACKER THAT TOOK A LONG TIME EARLIER IN THE WEEK. HOLY SHITE.

So yeah. It blew. And I didn't even put names/full stats for anyone who was 0x10k, so that remains to be done in future months. But at least I got all the 1x10kers (and there were around 2 dozen I would have missed had I not made sure I had ALL FREAKING 500 PROFILES IN MY SPREADSHEET FROM BBB'S TOP 500 LIST, ARGHGHGHG... I have like 650 people on the spreadsheet now, so do the math... high-exp folks = teh majority).... and even one 2x10ker (yep, had I not done this process, I would have missed DarkArchon making the pentalist. 'twould have been a grievous error indeed.

Five asterisks on the LLL this time. And sadly, I think some folks will be upset that there is a brand new top 3 on it, due to the five week period + insane voting habits over the summer + the pentalist getting back into the 100+ member area. Sooooooooo....... enjoy the pentalist, enjoy the LLL, hope you had a good Clock Day. Myself, I only started voting at like 11:30PM that night, but I did get gfoxclock about 100 saves due to late submissions + some things still under judgement from like 8:30 PM due to 100+ UJ... And yep. I went and searched for your id# and you were around #146-150ish (it's the pentalist and then the ~30 people on the 9k/10k list and then everyone else, the 10k/8k+ers and so forth, all in descending order of SECOND-HIGHEST stat, you see, all the way down to the end of the 1x10kers. And then it's the 0x10kers, in descending order of their FIRST-HIGHEST stat.

If that makes sense.

And you were ranked in with the 8500ish 1x10k people. Congrats on your insane 1500 saves, and yeah, you were too late for the August update anyway, the data pull was 8/09. I can't believe you weren't even on the 9k+ list this update, though, and have already shot all the way over it.

I've already "faux-updated" your savecount to 9999 so I'll be sure to get you on the next update even if I didn't go down to 150+ folks in the 2x+ and 1x+ area of the list (I did 200 this update and then another 300 or so 0x10k... oy....).

What worries me is how many more just like you there are. I'm gonna have to check all 350 or so 1x10k+ers by Labor Day to make sure ClockDay doesn't sneak anyone past me. CURSES. ;_;

So that's why I'm relying on teh help of all you good folks. Don't be shy, come forward like Major Punk just did. Even if it's not about you but about someone else you've noticed near 10k saves or OVER 10k saves.

Good looking update, all 108 of those users[haha]. You ever stop and think to scrap all those with 2k and bump up the requirements to 3k gfox? Man, about a year ago I think there was barely 40 or so, where are all of these users coming from? Oh well, they deserve it, pouring hours into this zany site. I'd like to be on it, post count highest, but the bbs isn't fun anymore. Nothing really worth posting in if you understand me. Even old members of the C&C have gone so not much there for me either.

Yah, it was a good month to get to 1x10k, a good month to get to 2x10k, and a good month for teh status changery. Huzzah!

When you said Bahamut hasn't been around for even two years, at first I thought you meant he'd been missing around here for two years, but I take it you mean he only started stat-accumulating in 2004? I guess that shouldn't surprise me, but it seems like he's been around a bit longer than just 24 months or so.

If you scroll down to the archive section and click on the Archived Archive, you can scroll through and see a time when we almost had 200 users. But of course, that was back when it was 1x10k to join up (now we'd be nearly to 500... sheesh). When I first cut it to 2x10k+, the amount dropped from around 180 to 30. So yes... we had 40 members or so in the early days of the 2x10k pentalist. No longer!

So yeah, there was a time to switch from 1x10k min req. to 2x10k min req. Perhaps there will be a time to bump to 3x10k, but crossing into 100 members isn't quite it. While the list gets harder to update, time-wise, every month... I've stopped stressing QUITE so much about making sure I check every little last 1x10ker and so forth, so... I'm really relying on the fans of the list in here to help me out with bringing qualified people I'm missing, or people ABOUT to qualify for the list or even just 1x10k to my attention ASAP.

I don't think I'll be switching to 3x10k or any other more-artificial limit (top 100?) anytime soon. Maybe in 2007/when we're getting close to 200 members again. That starts to make the effort unbearable.

Ye be welcome as well. If you were paying much attention to my post back on 8/14 and then some of my list update ramble today, you'd have noticed that I did the data pull on a couple of days, and indeed didn't finish until 8/18 with the list update/notes/stats/webpage issues stuff.

At one point I was trying to update the list around 8/05 (IOW, the first bloody weekend of the month, like I always aim for every month but usually fail at)... well, I shouldn't say always fail. I usually get the data pull started/mostly done/completely done by Sunday night of that weekend, and then it takes me till Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday after work some nights to pull the update itself together. But not this time.

No, this time I started (and aborted) the actual data pull 2 or 3 times before I finally got all of the existing list members pulled on 8/09 and 8/10. And then I pulled some off-list peoples' data on 8/11, even.

I don't like doing it this way, but with how it's getting harder and harder to update the list, I actually start first with ramagi and work my way down. I USED to always check/pull data for 0x10kers first, then 1x10kers, and then finally the current listed members LAST, so their data would be the freshest, most up to date, and "accurate," at least for a short while.

But now? I can never be sure how much time, effort, energy I'm going to have to spare, and since the most important part of the update is making sure all the people ALREADY on it are updated, I gotta updated from the top down instead of the bottom up.

Long story short: I probably pulled your data twice, on two different days, along with many many other people's. And I probably updated your blams but not your saves. Or your saves but not your blams. Such accidents can happen. And frankly, I haven't worried much about that, especially if it was from say 8/08 and 8/10 that it happened.

The pentalist, when it was weekly... had to be as accurate as I could make it. It was updated often enough that I felt it necessary. Now that it's monthly? Well, if I pull data over a whole week's range, even... while it will suck for some people who got pulled earlier than others and didn't get a chance to re-pass/stay in front of their fellow members... overall, it's still gonna represent a state of NG pentalistdom from that month. 30-31 days is the range now, not 7, so I'm not gonna stress over it.

Your numbers were +4 and -2, that's not so bad. #;-}>

I checked out the website, and you guys really put a lot of work into the club! Looking at all 5 stats at once really makes it interesting, so I wanted to start posting.

Huh? Dude, this isn't a club, it's a LIST.

You don't ask to join or get picked, it's a list of people who have qualified to be on it by earning enough 10k+ stats. The people who are on it are on it regardless of whether they want to be or not, whether they LIKE stats or not, etc. etc.. You already had 10k+ blams, you just got to 10k+ saves, you're now on the list due to meeting the minimum requirements.

Boy, you sure haven't been around Wi/Ht? long, have ya. You should try spending some time here in the ORIGINAL home of NG stats, not that newfangled Barracks of yours. #;-}>

This is the only topic this list has ever been in (unlike say top VP list, which has been in one on General and one here on Wi/Ht?), so I suggest you go back to page 1 and read up a bit on the history of it. I started it out about people who have either 10,000 exp, 10,000 b/p (yep, together), or 10,000 posts. Because back then, believe it or not, there were only THREE PEOPLE IN ALL OF NG who had more than one of those things at once. It was 2003. Times were different. Those people were NemesisM66 (exp and b/p), Shrapnel (exp and posts), and biteme2514 (b/p and posts), the perfect triad of stat balance when looked at together. They're still on this list, though they're far less exceptional these days.

The data was only from Wednesday because, like I said earlier, I tried to start on 8/05.... Saturday, I believe? Then on 8/06, and I just didn't have time to see it through that weekend. So after work on Wednesday (no overtime that day, just went straight home and tried to do as much of the data pull for the list as I could)... I did my best.

Weeknights suck for finishing list updates, though, which is why it didn't get finished till Friday night this week.

I know that...it's a stat list just like the top 300 B/Pers, just harder. However, the list takes maintenance from people like yourself, which is what I was referring to in my initial post. What I meant about me getting onto the pentalist was that I didn't realize I had 10K in two stats (I was more concentrated on total B/P) and that it was just an unexpected benefit from getting to EGSC. So yes, sorry about the mixup, but the Barracks wasn't clouding my thoughts. I just said club by accident. ;-P

Right. I actually knew of the beginnings of the list, which is why I was surprised that I had made it on. I actually forgot that blams and/or protects count as a 10000+ requisite, which is why it was a nice surprise to find me on the list. As I said before, it does feel good to be part of such a selective group on NG.

Of course. I never thought of it as anything different. And yes, I fully understand the ranking system (and its basis), so there's no cause for worry. I knew right from the start that I earned my spot on the list, and I wasn't put there for any other reason. Everything's just fine. :-P

I went and searched for your id# and you were around #146-150ish (it's the pentalist and then the ~30 people on the 9k/10k list and then everyone else, the 10k/8k+ers and so forth, all in descending order of SECOND-HIGHEST stat, you see, all the way down to the end of the 1x10kers. And then it's the 0x10kers, in descending order of their FIRST-HIGHEST stat.

So if I understand correctly from your REALLY LONG, CONFUSING RUN ON SENTENCE your explaining how you order and update the people who are close but haven't reached the list yet, on your speadsheet. And I made a big jump in the rankings this week? k.

Thanks, it was probibly my best week for b/ping ever, and it feels especially good because I was in Newfoundland for most of July and I made hardly any progress in b/p. =(

Vote on any five submissions, done.

10 b/p points, easy (with time and patience).
You have to vote on 10 submissions, and then there's a chance you still won't get 10 b/p points, so you have to vote on more.

10 posts, easy (with time and a little wit).
Just don't post anything remarkably retarded 10 times. How hard is that?

I'm going with 10 b/p's a day, even though that's easy, it's still the hardest of the three.

Interesting question blackplastic. The hardest for me would be posting 10 times each day. I don't think my daily average went above 6.5 and the most I ever made in my life was somewhere around eleven to fifteen. Spammers and internet junkies won't have this problem. The experience points are a given unless extenuating circumstances prevent you from depositing. It happens, and it sucks. The b/p points aren't difficult to snag these days with the site's increasing population. Imagine this place with 2 million members. 0_0

I know that...it's a stat list just like the top 300 B/Pers, just harder. However, the list takes maintenance from people like yourself, which is what I was referring to in my initial post.

Yeah, I read that, and much thanks for the recognition, but when you spoke in the original post as if there was a club with many members making this list, I was like "buzzuh? Where'd he get that impression from exactly?" Heh.

What I meant about me getting onto the pentalist was that I didn't realize I had 10K in two stats (I was more concentrated on total B/P) and that it was just an unexpected benefit from getting to EGSC.

Yeah. There's always multiple benefits to getting EGSC. Unless you suck and have 25k blams and only 5k saves or something. Then you suck, and don't get to be on the pentalist.

Right. I actually knew of the beginnings of the list, which is why I was surprised that I had made it on. I actually forgot that blams and/or protects count as a 10000+ requisite, which is why it was a nice surprise to find me on the list. As I said before, it does feel good to be part of such a selective group on NG.

Well, the list has changed 3 or 4 times in its history, so it's no surprise that even people familiar with its origins haven't kept up with the full requirements to this date.

Make yourself at home. I am but the listmaker, we're all fans of stats, this isn't a club, there's no numbers given out but the ranking you earn yourself on the list. Keep that in mind and all will be fine. #;-}>

Of course. I never thought of it as anything different. And yes, I fully understand the ranking system (and its basis), so there's no cause for worry. I knew right from the start that I earned my spot on the list, and I wasn't put there for any other reason. Everything's just fine. :-P

10 exp is easy. 10 b/p is easy if you like voting in the portal every day. 10 posts is easy if you like posting on the BBS every day.

That rules out exp entirely. And then it's just a personality test. Which are you more likely to have an easier time doing every day of your life: voting in the portal or posting on the BBS?

Me = 10 posts a day is harder.

Even though I don't b/p anywhere near as much as I used to, 10 b/p a day is much easier than 10 posts a day.

Anyway... um.... yes. The way I order people beyond the actual people ON the pentalist, who are ordered by total points, of course, is very different, it's first by whether they have 1x or 0x 10ks... and then by their closest stat to 10k but NOT OVER 10k...

so the order doesn't mean much except "shit towards the top needs to be paid attention to so I don't miss any new 2x10ks for the next update," and that's the only reason I tried to explain it briefly to you, since I was trying to reassure you that you were fairly close to the 9x/10k area anyway, and now you're safely within in, so all is well for you getting noticed by myself come update time.

First off theres harryjarry id #1215643 , and RemRulzz id #1180272. They both already have over 10,000 saves.
You didn't have either of them on Augusts update but they both reached over 10,000 saves in the past week, after the data pull.

God both those guys on the spreadsheet, not to worry.

You were in the 148th row, harryjarry was in #149, and RemRulzz was in #140, so I already had all of ya. Thanks for the heads up there, though.
