Welcome to the 2x10k Hexalist - Update #94 (14/2/2024)

It's a special one this one! One to commemorate this old thing, the first update when I ten years ago - to this day - took over the list after @Dev. I spiffed up the visuals a bit then, introduced the ability to sort users by individual stats a while later and... since then alas not much additional tweaking has transpired! But I have kept it going reasonably recurringly for a some may say unreasonable amount of time since, through highs and lows, initially with a standalone crawler, eventually with great help of the combined NG Logs database of users @byteslinger managed to integrate these lists with.

I've soon been running it twice as long as the longest-running contender before me, who retired after the at the time abundant span of five years - the esteemed @Murray. ;) Who followed the esteemed OG thread starter @gfoxcook.

After spending all this time on the list myself I suppose it's time... to keep it going huh?

Activity overall isn't as high as it was when I first took over, not on the list nor this thread, though admittedly I don't go out of my way to find new users as much as I did then either, and stat gains actually are higher now. NG's livened up a lot this last decade, and the amount of hexalisted users have gone from 520 to 609 at the time of this post. Though many have also dropped off and disappeared over the years, so overtime numbers don't do all justice.

Here's to a fine ten years of both mundane maintenance and great gains and competition anyhow - and hopefully many more to come! Unless someone else really wants to take over. ;)

In user news @fuckoffasshole jumps onto the list with a whooping 3x10k stats on this update - apparently he hadn't been listed on NG Logs until now - pardon the oversight and welcome aboard FOA!

@StardustKaizo also jumps from 2 to 3x10K stats with 10K EXP! Big Congrats!

And in other notable number news @XwaynecoltX recently hit a full 50,000 reviews, and I should've probably congratulated @DamnedByFate on ditto remarkable number of posts in November last year too here. Congrats both!

I actually ran it for 5 years? My god, seemed like only 2-3 years. Goes to show how long ago it was when I was running this but I gotta say well done on maintaining this for a whole decade.

Thank you man. :) Time flies when you're having fun hmm... though you did have a way more consistent update schedule when you took care of this, summer breaks make all commitments easier, impressive feat managing it as long as you did with pretty much no downtime at all!

Pardon the super late response here, but these were cool to see. The Star Wars ones in particular seem like they might turn into real collector items some day, if they aren't already.

And that Titanic one looks huge. Didn't know they had ones on this scale at all.

Impressive collection man. And as long as LEGO's as popular as it is now probably not a bad investment either, looks like they're bound to at least retain their value; hopefully just get worth more and more in time... without boxes it seems they aren't worth quite as much, but when you still have packaging and everything, big things.

@MalwareShop - This is probably personal bias speaking, but getting to 10k medals seems like your ticket to the Hexalist.

You want my advice, start going through the games catalogues of selfdefiant, MrNannings and RunningZombie - all three have a metric shitload of medals you can earn pretty easily.

I'd also recommend taking a second look through Munguia's catalogue - there's a fair number of high-medal games beyond the Famous Paintings Parodies series you seem to be missing (like the 70-medal Indie Ana Jones or the 55-medal Abraham Link Coln)

Beyond that, Magnus727's walkthroughs will help you with gettiing a fair number of medals as well.

Oh that sounds nice! A month's ample time to really wind down and wander the world too. Sounds like a real adventure. Trekking by car I suppose?

Yeah, I'll admit coming close to burning out from time to time during my trip to 10k medals - mainly when I felt like my progress was gonna stall altogether from running out of easy medals to obtain.

I'd say the closest I came was in the latter half of May - after cracking 10k saves, I found myself feeling a deep-seated need to get to 10k medals before the month ends.

The thought I'd fall short of that and fail to get in was pretty damn demoralising, but that thought went away pretty quickly around the 8.4-8.5k mark.

I had set a personal goal of getting at least 200 medals a day around 20-21 May, and regularly meeting, if not exceeding it (mainly by cleaning out selfdefiant games all day) gave me the mental push I needed to hit 10k.

I personally wouldn't recommend trying to replicate my borderline-speedrun to 10k - I stressed the shit out of myself going through all those selfdefiant games.

I was also making constant progress updates on Wi/Ht? Level up! Lounge (at least one per day) during this time - they're pretty disorganised, being just lists of games I'd recently earned medals in, but they may be of help if you feel like grinding them out.
