For some time now, inbetween other stuff, I've been working on automating the collections. This will make Tom and Wade's lives a lot easier when trying to cull decent content from the Portal and categorising them into the collections area. I've not thought a great deal about the front end stuff, but here's what will probably happen.
For content that has passed judgement and is not part of a collection, there will be a reasonably big link, which says something like, "Recommend for collection." When you click this link, users will be able to choose from a list of collections that they think the submission should belong in. For people like the Iloveegg guy, it may automatically suggest that the submission belongs in one of the existing collections/series. So, say he brings out I love Egg episode 10, it will suggest that the submission belongs in the I love egg series.
There will still be a link for movies that are already in collections, just in case the submission is applicable to other collections than the one that it's already in.
Once submissions have received a significant amount of suggestions for particular collections, they will be pulled into a pool where Tom and Wade can review whether or not the submissions do actually belong in the collections that have been suggested. If they do, then Tom/Wade will have a simple tool to transfer those submissions into the collections area (at the moment, all of this is done by user recommendations via e-mail/submissions that we notice and the files are hand-edited).
There's a lot of backend stuff that I'm not going to go into and I've probably missed out some of the functionality that's already been discussed between Tom/Wade and I in this thread, but has anyone any suggestions as to any other functionality you'd like to see? Now's a good time to mention it, if so. This is still all a long way off yet, just thought I'd get some ideas together now while I'm prepping everything. :)
