Unless you've been living under a rock Pico Day is approaching, with Tom's formal announcement about it and people running around headless at the craze over the prizes and such I thought I'd open this thread a little earlier than anticipated.

The preloader will be available soon. I'm gonna do this right this year and going to work on it with the MindChamber... anyway have fun. Heres the specs on it if you never read Tom's posts:

When is it: April 30, 2007

What is it: It's a celebration of one of the icons of NG lore, Pico and friends were practically born with the site as these simple characters created by Tom and eventually grew with the site and Pico and his friends have made many appearances in movies by many different artists in many different styles way before there was ever a Pico day. This is the second year of the official Pico Day, the original one was suggested by Mogly and maybe some others.

Whats in it for me:

Pico day is a great event because it shows off one of the building blocks of the NG family and as if that werent enough Toms thrown in some pocket change for you to buy yourself a new dress, heres the prizes:

1st Place: $5,000
2nd Place: $3,000
3rd Place: $2,000
4th Place: $1,000
5th Place: $1,000
6th Place: $1,000
7th-10th: $500

Whats the catch?
Well none really, but you do have to use audio in the Audio Portal, its a win-win for everyone and theres some good shit in there. Also you must use the pre-loader or build your own in relation to the event and also link to the Pico page here.
The official preloader will be available soon so you can stick around for that one if you want. It's not like you need it right now anyway.

You are welcome to collaborate, make games, or just a movie, or a whatever. Join up with someone or go solo. Its all on you.

Also dont feel confined to just use Pico or his friends, be creative and maybe introduce characters of your own? or maybe more obscure characters, like Otis or Cassandra?

well i'm trying to steer people to use the AP this year Tom heavily wants to give exposure to all the great things on the site. I think that for as large as the prizes are it would only be right to use all the resources available to you on here... I guess if you wanted to use something else you should PM him but as for this thread its heavily recommended.

I think that the ordering of things and collections will be resolved when the redesign is out. They are just sort of in a state of disarray for the moment and will fall into place when ng upgrades itself to its next version.

Anyways, I am so pumped this year. Last year I couldn't enter because my comp crashed 3 days before the due date, so I couldn't finish OR submit what I had. It really sucked, because I believe I would've gotten like 5th place or something.

Anyway if anyone needs advice or what not feel free to holler at me. I know its a competition and all but honestly I was proud last year to see the people I helped managed to get on up there, I think that at the end of the day, the strongest productions are things that are really faithful to the series and are genuinely loved by the people who made them. Like any contests I think this will bring out people who want to make a buck but i think that those who genuinely follow this shit will not only get the most out of it from an enjoyment standpoint but are gonna likely be successful. Brings back memories of the faux 3d take on pico's school.. deeply engaging and very clever, made by someone who took alot of time to do his homework and look into the original for flavors of what made it cool and added his own flavors to the mix and leave his stamp on the series.

hashy and I have begun working on ours already. Last year we did our game in 8 hours. THis year we'll spend the full 2 months on it. Can you smell the improvement?

Don't just give up. Give it all you've got, take flash to the limits, be creative. Think of how amazing it would be to read the results of Pico Day and see your submission above Luis'. It isn't impossible to do better than him, and in fact it was a tie for first place last year, so don't be so sure you don't have a fighting chance.

Last year I had an idea for PicoDay, but I didnt have Flash, It surprised me noone did it, since its pretty obvious, I think of doing it this year, not for the money, i dont care about it, just fo rth efun of submitting something of mine.

It's because it's all just catagorized as 'Pico day'. There'd be no point to just point out the top submissions from Pico day, when people can view the pico day page and see the top submissions, and all the other submissions too. Are you sure about the search thing? There's alot on the Pico day 06' page.

And btw last years pico day, most submissions were really top notch in my opinion. Better than I thought there would be even with the prizes and all.

Btw, my entry is already close to 5 minutes long. (I'm adding on to what I had last year)

And I'm not even half way done, lol. I really hope I don't hit the 16000 frame limit. But meh, there's always ways of getting around that.

I'll try to start early with my movie this year and make something good. But I gotta come up with a good idea first, I think I'll probably make something with Nene, but I dunno.

Flash can only go up to 16000 frames. But there are easy ways to get around that. Like putting things in movie clips (only one frame of the movieclip) with a stop action and then another action at the end of the movie clip (inside of it) to make it go to the next frame.

It's pretty easy to get around.
