This wouldn't surprise me at all. The number of people that were effected, the number of ISP's that were contacted to remove his malicious files, etc. I'm sure it all got passed along to the authorities. What Goldencat was doing was very illegal and he wasn't very discrete about it.

I took an interest in this, and did a lot of searching. The absolute MINIMUM is a $1,000 dollar fine. The absolute minimum, and since this is a rather big virus that got many complaints, and caused everyone a lot of time and sometimes money to remove the virus, i reckon he'll get about $5,000 and probation.
