Weird!

Apparently the large majority of folks see defrag win though, but I'll take that to mean I was good competition :P

I wonder why that could have happened.. My bot uses no random or time based functions.

but it does take every bullet's path into account during movement, so any variation in any bullet might change what my bot does in a frame.

Thats wierd. Of course, it might not be in void's script. it could be in someone else's and simply butterfly effect the whole battle.

get close-ups of the options depicting things. those are the key if anyone cares enough to figure this out 0.o

it could also be quality levels with hittesting.

When the quality gets turned up the hittesting radius increases or decreases, and this little change can make all the difference in these fights.

More likely, it's because of the version difference to Flash 9. The engine probably handles the scripts differently, but the majority of people (that I know) are still running Flash Player 8, which yielded the first result. If you can replicate the battle, see if you can either get a screen cap movie of it, or maybe someone else can try it in flash player 9. Hell, maybe it's even the Mac.

first time I watched defrag lost and this time defrag won.

someone must have a random code or something.

This is definitely bizarre. The only random code found throughout the entire battle 25 is in Claxor's "I'm the last to die victory dance" code, which doesn't even trigger until the length of the liveBots array == 1.

My only assumption is the that the flash player may be rounding floating numbers or doing something similar in different ways on different machines. It's enough that it may effect the outcome of the match.

But as we have seen, Defrag tends to win more of the battles, so it could only be assumed he won. Also, when I ran it locally and not through the browser, it performed the same with Defrag.

Strange :).

...I doubt that rounding a 64bit float to a 32bit int is going to save any memory (mostly because Flash can afford to store a couple million in variables), plus no architecture would be that dumb. If a computer runs out of memory it uses the hard drive to compensate (which makes it run much slower as it is clumsier on top of the functions to manage everything).
There is a diffirence in hittesting, however, because Flash matches the bitmap of transparency for any shape in hittesting. Any other way it is about platform diffirences.

Hows the free-for-all going to work? How will everyone be positioned? I think it would be too unfair just placing everyone around the sides. I would think either put everyone in a circle or simply put everyone right in the middle so there's no advantage for anyone. It wouldn't take too long for everyones bots to spread out, and then we can also soo how well people do when they don't have a corner to set up camp in.

But I think most of the corner campers seek to their closest corner (they should, atleast), so that multiple campers will go to the same corner :P

Actually, i think most just sit there (i didn't see any minor adjustments at the beginning of the game to get them exactly in the corner). Either way, it will be cool to see them all taking each other down, and like 20 bots shooting at the other 7 who are all in the same place.

These battles were definately interesting, but I think we should do 1vs1 arenas too. When I tested my bot against a claxor, a defrag, and an arby, I noticed that I almost won when my shooting system was crappy, but when I upgraded it, it was harder to win since the bots I was attacking died faster and therefore had less time to help kill the next bot my bot would attack when the current one'd be dead. A bit hard to explain, hope it makes sense.

So guys, with benefit of heinsight (sp?) what would you change about your bot? I think i would make my bullet dodgine better, work more on taking the other bot's movement into consideration when i try to shoot them, and perhaps only shoot at someone if they're shooting at me a lot. As toast said, when they're shooting someone else, they're only helping you take down the opponenets. I'd make it so i stay as far as possible away from every bot, so they always have someone else to shoot at.

Also, i saw that a sudden spurt of 20 bullets can do a lot of damage! I'd do that more often if my opponent is standing still.

20 bullets will take thier health to 0 if they all hit. (and if they're not a silly healing bot like claxor) XD
