Chapter 3 – Illian Tournament

“I am Alex” You try to say as calm as possible, keeping an eye at her skirt.
“Alex who?” She slightly raises her voice, “When I introduce myself to people, I state my full name. Shouldn’t you do the same? Isn’t it the common order?” The tone in her voice reveals that she has a firm control over her anger.
Forgetting her skirt, you stare into her blue eyes. “I am Alex Ansadain, from the land of Shrin”
Her eyes widen as you take a breath. “Shrin? I have heard many things about that small land”
”You have?” Hearing about your land in another land interests you.
“Yes, it has the most changing landscape I hear. Deserts, mountains, fields, volcanoes and hundreds of monsters ready to kill and–“
“Not that much” laughing, you think of more important matters. “How does this tournament work?”
She looks at you as if you never knew anything. Her forehead crinkles and she seems as if she’s about to laugh.
“You don’t know?” Her face returns to normal. “I shall explain, it is fairly simple:
The tournament is based to test mainly strength, to find the most powerful person in this world. Many trials before us were placed to only allow those with sufficient strength. But to gain entrance to the finals, you must pass three different trials successfully, with only 20 minutes time to complete.
In the trials, one must do a certain task, reaching the bell to hit in time. Apparently it isn’t easy and there are many difficulties and skills one must know to move on.
When and if all trials are completed, you gain entrance into the finals. There are 32 entrants in the finals and five rounds each person. Those who win gain a level and rise to the next round. If one is strong enough, they are to reach the grand final.
I’ll doubt you’ll beat me if you ever get up there though”
“We’ll see about that then” Growing a smile, a smile escapes on her face and she clears her throat, eyeing your sword.
“One other rule: Personal weapons and armour and stuff like that aren’t permitted. They will give you one weapon of your choice to use; some weapons have magic and makes things a little easier for some”
“So what do I do with this sword?”
“They, the guards can take care of it while you in the tournament. We get our weapons before the first trial”
“When is that?” you ask.
“I am not sure. If you are from Shrin, then it should start by this afternoon, taking all these ceremonies and papers and official matters to sort”
“Are you from Ithaca?” You ask.
“Why, yes. I was born in Talasa, the city of the tournament”
Talasa…I have to remember that.
You look behind you as you see a bed and curtains that can be moved to hide anyone else from seeing. You move to the window as you see the grassy courtyard and the near to blue crystal clouds.

What should Alex do? Why?

1. Take a nap till the afternoon.
2. Idly talk with Agatha.
3. Try and find Aster.
4. Practice your magic.
