By 200 relay, I meant 50m a person.

I thought you must have meant that- after all I've never heard of a race in which each leg is 200 metres. 50m fly is still a good effort though. I remember a club where I used to work that spent a few months working up their fly until they could swim 400m in one go. In a bid to advance my strokes that is going to be my resolution for the new year- and hopefully to push it further if possible.

Maybe everyone else would like to give themselves swimming related resolutions for the New Year? It gives it so much more purpose if you have something to aim for, and after all we are supposed to be promoting fitness and improvement :)

200m butterfly seems a very long way off...

I had a go at the weeks challenge- a 4x50m medley. Back when I used to swim regularly the 4x25m medley was one of my specialties, so I assumed I wouldn't find this too hard. How wrong I was!

Time: 3mins 5secs, 25m pool, no dive

Not terrible I guess, but considering my time for a 4x25m medley is about 1min 20secs I lost some 25 seconds doing the extra distance. That is almost entirely down to how painful the extra butterfly length was- I really need to work on that and improve my technique because I'm sure it shouldn't be that hard. The backstroke made up some of the ground as I managed 50m in around 42 seconds, and I took the breastroke fairly slowly to give myself enough energy to sprint the freestyle.

I haven't come up with a challenge for this week yet, and due to the holiday weekend I'm not going to have chance to try it anyway. Any suggestions for a challenge are welcome- I'd like one more before we go back to the start and the 50m freestyle.

I'm in, I can swim pretty well, I'd say I'm intermediate level swimmer, and I like being a part of a club or crew anyway. Something to do when you're bored eh?

Awesome- another person I have seen around, mainly through the top 300 B/P list. I had kind of let this club drift for a few weeks while I'm on holiday, but I'll be back and fully active next week. Welcome to the club and enjoy your stay- be sure to check out our weekly challenges as well (resuming next week); the more the merrier :)

Welcome to you as well :). Clubs and Crews is where I spend almost all of my time when on NG, away from the spam of General. Enjoy your time here, and I hope we can motivate you to continue improving, although it sounds like you are more than capable as it is.

Take Lifesaving Society Advanced Instructors clinic when you get the chance. It's one day, but its good for Bronze Med and Bronze Cross tips.

Nice- I hadn't even noticed!

Sorry I've kind of let this place slip recently- I've had some major trouble at work, and also been on holiday back in the UK. No swimming in over a month now! I think that must be the longest I've gone in 5 years.

Anyway, in the interest of getting this place going again- the weekly challenges are back with the 50m freestyle we started off with. See if you can beat your original time! I'll be giving it a shot myself this weekend. No doubt after so long I'll be slower, especially with all that holiday weight!

Plus any members that are still bothering to check up on this place, feel free to regale us with any funny swimming tales you can come up with, or anything at all really. I'd quite like it to be a bit more active around here!

I didn't know that they left...

See if you can beat your original time!

I'll have to set an original time first :)

But unfortunately I'm a bit too busy with other things this week. But I'll be restarting my swimming soon.

There was nothing stopping other people setting them, but as I was inactive for a few weeks there wasn't anything arranged by me. I think we'll just set it on a rota from now on- 50m free, 50m back, that horrendous 10 minute challenge, and the 4x50m medley. That way there is plenty of variation and you can see how much you have improved with each cycle.

Of course any opinions on this are welcome :)

I'm swamped at work at the moment as well, plus with all the snow around here in Colorado it has been a pain getting to the pool, hence not bothering for so long. I'm going to make an effort to get there this weekend though- I can't go on getting fat like this!

Ima joining because ima lifeguard in LA, I teach Bronze Star, Medallion, and cross, I also have many swimming awards. Im starting to stray away again... Swimming is the only way I exercise and I have an Arnold Shwartzenhagger (I can never spell his name right) body! So you can expect me in this club because swimming is practicly the only active thing I do.

Awesome, and here was me thinking this thread was dead :). There seem to be quite a few lifeguards about on the BBS, which is cool- is this on a beach, or at a pool?

I never took many awards myself, instead doing charity swimathons and things when I was younger, and swimming competitively at a club until I was 12. I think the best badge I ever got was 25m :D

I seriously doubt you have the body or Arnie, that isn't much good for swimming, but you seem keen enough, so welcome :)

And in a bid to get some activity in here, challenge for this week will be 50m backstroke- post times here. Plus feel free to advertise this place to anyone you may think will be interested, I'm kind of bored of it being inactive!

Anyone know if private swim lessons are helpful?

I wanna try getting my 100 (yard) free time below 1 minute, and right now its at 1:11. I don't think I know proper swimming technique...

That is an awful lot more than I ever manage at the moment, but then I have university finals so I haven't had chance to train for a few weeks. Also good to see people posting here, I had given this place up for dead!

You leave for any particular reason?

I guess that answers your own question then! Those are some pretty good times there, certainly better than I could manage at the moment. I haven't received any real swim training/coaching since I was about 10. Back then I was pretty good, but without the regular coaching I've not really improved in the last 12 years, so I can assure you that coaching/teaching can really help. Now I get water polo coaching, but if anything that makes you a slower swimmer :S
