Forum more.
Maybe Icon.

Let me try again.

1.Forum
2.Icon
3.Review.
4.Audio.

I am on the BBS for 4+ hours on a weekday, more on th e weekend. I know right from wrong, and what is spam. I know what would be appropriate ban times would be, what threads should be locked, and which ones should be deleted. I think I could do good as a forum mod.

Icon mod? I think that I could do good with that by actualy watching a movie or playing a game and seeing which icon does it justice.

Review? I know what an abusive review looks like, and wether or not to ban them.

I dont listen to the audio here, so that is why that one is last :)

Like I said, I am on NG for a majority of my free time, and would love a modship in any catagory!

haha people with 200 posts asking to be a forum mod

I say give them a shot, you never know, they might be great. Scrap the current mod team and replace it with some random noobs (for want of a better word) and see what happens. They'd probably be just as good, or just as liked and supported anyway. Problem with the forum mods is, there's no correlation between what one agrees with and what another views as lockable and bannable, and making more of them confuses this all even more. Also, half of them suck.

And the review mods seem a little over-zealous at the moment, judging from what reviews I've lost (not that I particularly care, they were just a bit funny and it's a shame), and I can't imagine getting more review mods would do anything other than making the metaphorical line even more confused.

At 10/16/06 11:59 PM, TheStarSyndicate wrote: I would like to be an icon mod because it is by far the most glorious of all the mod jobs!

Hahaha.

Anyway, audio mods and icon mods - I can't see the problem in getting more of them. Icon modding would definitely be very shit though.

Hmmm, if I were a mod what would I be?

Probably go for Forum or Review mod, in that order.

Forum
I tend to lurk around more than post because I only feel like posting in threads that I feel like what I have to say is relevant. Granted its not always productive, but it definetly applies to the thread. On many occasions I have something useful or downright brilliant to say but the thread tends to get locked before I finish my long ass post.

I am well aware of the rules, and those who break them. I do think that sometimes mods are a bit harsh in their locking of topics though, becuase occasionally a new user with albeit generic questions gets discouraged because people refuse to help him/her.

I frequent the art and general forums while occasionally browsing the Politics, audio, and Wi/Ht forums.

Normaly I'm on Ng for a good portion of the day, ranging from 10 AM to Midnight EST due to my nice class schedual. I am normaly at the computer for long hours between those hours, a majority of that time lurking around NG at 10 minute intervals.

While I can get a bit testy and grouchy occasionaly, my trait of lurking around more than posting stops me from doing stupid stuff most of the time.

Review
I always enjoyed browsing around reviews looking for helpful or absuive ones. I really dont have much else to do quite often (especially on saturdays from 2 PM-8PM est becuase of my computer graphics class where all i do is look at reviews).

I am a strong beliver that just because a review gives low scores dosen't make it abusive. I make sure that reviews I mark as abusive really blatantly show it, or at least clear enough to directly tie them back to the guidelines.

I've got plenty of time available to clear/delete flagged reviews.

Granted I have some rather abusive reviews myself from my earlyer days here on NG that I am patiently waiting for their deletion (which reminds me that I have been provably a regular here scince at least 2001) I realize the errors I have made and will try to prevent others from making the same.

Wade,
I would like to be an icon mod. I have seen a few icons that I believe to be in clear violation of the rules, and if I am picked as an icon mod, I will make sure they are removed. I have some experience in moderating other sites, and I will do my best with moderating this one, if I am picked.
I think I would make a good icon mod because I will use my best judgement, and will review the rules many times before marking one as unsuitable. I will do this often and with great care.

I am most active on newgrounds between 7:00PM and 1:00AM (American EST) every day of the week, but I am active at many other times as well, especially very late at night, and very early in the morning.

Thank you for reading and considering me.

Response to Would you like to be a mod? 2006-10-17 00:14:44

To be honest, I would help in any way possible. Sure, an icon mod wouldn't be the most popular, but I suppose that I would do it, simply to help.

Well, I'll try to do a break down of why I think that I'd be good, or at least decent, as the different types of moderators.

Forum- I think that I would be an effective forum moderator because I believe myself to be fair. Fairness is pretty important, in my opinion. I wouldn't be too fair, which can be bad, but I wouldn't give a newbie a 5 day ban for posting in a borderline spam topic that he likely could not differentiate from a regular topic.

I also believe that I have a good understanding of the rules. I was banned only once, for posting in a spam topic (one day) that I, at the time, could not tell was spam NG-wise. To be a mod, you must understand the rules.

Finally, I feel that I could help NewGrounds greatly by offering my services. Normally I would not, but because you made this, I will. I think before most of my actions, and that is important, even for something as simple as moderating a BBS in an online community. I feel I could help make NG better, even if by the tiniest amount.

I also feel that I am mature enough, and put thought into my posts. I'm sure that there is a use for that in modding.

Review- It seems that you guys need at least a little bit of help here. I think that although I have not made all that many reviews, I can differentiate between an offensive review worthy of deletion, and a good review that may just not be completely praising the flash.

I've read many reviews, and I've flagged a few offensive ones worthy of a flag.

It's the simple things like that that are most required for this job, if you ask me. I'd try to help as best I can.

Audio- It seems that this could be a somewhat difficult job, but it also seems that it could be easy.

If you get an artist that suddenly starts submitting offensive/racist content, they should not be approved, or be banned if they were already approved. I don't know if I'm the best qualified, but I'd sure as hell try.

Icon- This one seems simple enough- though I'm sure there is something I don't know behind it. If the icon is offensive, includes explicit content (Nudity, etc, when not valid, if valid at all) or is not related to the flash in anyway, it probably should not be able to be approved.

This might be another area where you'd need a lot of help, and I think that I can.

Activity: From the time I get home to school to when I go to bed, I am generally on NewGrounds, though a bit off and on. I can multitask, so I'd beable to do mod activities while doing homework, for example. I get home at about 3:30 PM EST, and I normally go to bed at around 11 PM EST. So you can at least expect most activity to be from 4:30ish EST to 10:30ish EST.

On the weekend, I'd probably be able to be a bit more active, though I can't give an exact time because I like to do things with friends and stuff. I go to bed much later. Let's say 12:00ish AM EST or later.

I feel that I WILL BE ABLE to help NG, and I WANT to help NG. In my opinion, you do not have to be the most widely known user to be able to fill these positions.

I hope that I have given enough information, and described things well enough, because it is late, and to be honest, I should have been in bed an hour ago.

Good night, Gentlemen.

I have saved this onto a word document, so if you feel I should refine it, please let me know, and I will. The body of this post took up one page, with the 'good night, gentlemen' on the second. That is with size ten font. :)

I post a lot, I have a good grasp of the rules, I'm a regular. I think those are hopefully some of the qualities you look for .
I am active on NG during weekends the most(obviously) and during the week days, towards the middle of the day(the afternoon).
*crosses fingers while hoping that hell freezes over*

I wrote that in a kinda a rush, because I got too excited.
Hopefully, you'll consider this a better version, and perhaps even consider making me a canidate for modship :)
I think the best option for me would be forum mod.
I believe that I see a lot of crap before mods do sometimes, and it bothers me.
I am also in a couple clubs that get spam once in a while, and a mod isn't always there to clean it up, which is something I'd be willing to do.
I've been visiting Newgrounds since 2003. It was a "banned" website at this Computer thing I went to, so naturally I had to go there.
I enjoyed the flash, especially the stick games, since those were pretty popular back then.
I joined up in earlier/mid 2004 because I wanted to vote and review movies.
I have been a really active member since 2005, and I believe that I would make a good forum mod because I meet what I believe your qualifications to be.
I love Newgrounds.
I post a lot.
I understand the rules, and try my best to obey them.
I am a regular.
I think I'm somewhat well-known(or at least I was back when I spammed more.)
I've tried to become a better poster when I started coming on my 5,000th post, and I believe for the most part, I have succeeded.
Some cons I have though would be that sometimes I am intolerant of new people and their spam, but that's about it(unless someones wants to PM me telling me more reasons).

Review mod would be the second option.
I see horrible reviews all the time, and it bothers me that all I can do is flag them, and hope the person gets what's coming to them.
Although I might feel a little hypocritical, because my own reviews aren't as stellar as they could be; I still understand the review guidelines and can tell when someone is breaking them.

I am active on the weekends the most, unless I am doing something with my friends. I get on Newgrounds almost as soon as I get home from school every weekday(around 4-ish) and I stay until about 10.

If I could be a mod, I'd most likely be a forum mod. That really is the only thing I actively do on NG. I do think I have a good sense of humor and what should and shouldn't be locked(though I have been confused now by the unicorns with penises and all that). I usually browse later in the NG day when many mods are not on so that could be something that goes to me. Although I don't post too often( I lurk way more than I post). I believe that I have matured greatly from my first couple of posts and would use my mod powers wisely. Then again, I don't even have 2,000 posts so I probably won't be modded. I guess I can always dream.

Forum Mod!

Because i go on the forums alot and i run own i dont post alot i just look thought the topic and see what people have posted and i sometimes post.I usaly go on ng and go to the forum 4 or 5 time a day depends .

2 choice review!

because that is the second place i go to. and see the flash and sometime leave reviews but i spend most my time on the forum

Response to Would you like to be a mod? 2006-10-17 00:19:22

1.) Review Mod

I am really positive I could do this, because I have read over the review rules many times to try to keep myself from being reveiw banned. I have neve been review banned, and I always check through review to see if any are bad, and flag them. Everytime I start to review a submission, I check through the review to make sure it is helpful, and isn't against the rules.

I feel really bad for the artists that stop making flashes because the reveiws discouaraged them! I also beleive that someone who dosen't want to include anything nice in their review, should not review. I beleive that review are there to help the artist make better work, and compliment them. I also beleive in second chances, and everyone deserves one.

I am most active from 3:15 Pm - 8:00 Pm during week days. I am on the site for about 2 and a half, to 3 and a half hours, playing flashes, and posting on the BBS. I also listen to the audio portal, frequently.

i'd like to be a review mod, lots of reviews i find are insulting to authors or just unuseful
i usually have 3-4 free hours a day, i spend about 1-2 of them online so i would have time to help out

I would love to be a forum mod. Since I came to Newgrounds I felt that the place was different from all the other forums I have ever been. The layout, the entire form of presentation was great, and thats why I got so hooked.

My first impression was that compared to other places it could be more strict, and I got to learn pretty hard how to behave here. After many attempts I got it alright, and I think nobody has something bad to say about my posts.

The main reason I want to be a forum mod is to help users to understand the way this place runs. Many come posting in ways that get them flamed by others. Obviously I would want to help regulars aswell, some need a hard teaching.

I have been a mod for two other Russian forums:

daztoevckii dot ru, which got deleted because there were many other forums about Russian writters and especialy this one. Since this was a "literature lovers" forum it was nothing like Newgrounds, but it gave me a lot of experience on how to manage spamers and flamers.

The other site which I moderated was allsoch dot ru. It is a site which consists of many essays and work papers that are "ready" for students to take and use. It is higly questinable, but the forums are completely different. Here there are forums for literature, history and science, but there is also a general forum, which I loved to moderate.

The truth is that I got demoded there for several reasons. The first is that I had a problem with the type of crowd that hang there, many just came to steal some work papers to copy paste and went by the forums to post about how much they love the site. When the real idea of the site is to help users get a grasp on how to do the works. That got me into several "wars" and made my status fall.

The final drop was when I got within an argument between two, high ranking, mods. I tried to help them sort things out but they both went against me and the admins decided to let me go.

All this things got me a lot of experience on how to deal with users, spamers, other mods and even admins...

Since I travel around the globe a lot, my time scedual changes a lot. Now I am in Argentina, and so my time is equivalent to yours. I don`t know how long I will stay here, but what I do know is that I will be on Newgrounds for a long while.

If I had the chance to moderate any other place, it would be the audio forums, because I love to make music and hear it. And some of the people submitting audio are amazing.

I will give the best of me.

To be completly blunt, I'd probably be a forum mod.

Now, after looking at it a bit, the negatives would seem to weigh out the positives. You'd practically be technical support for the forums of NG. You'd always be answering questions, going through threads, looking at some of the most disgusting material disgusting that NG could post (both pictures and words) and handling them like a pooper scooper. You'd be open to harassment from many users, both through the E-persona and you could risk being harassed in your real life.

The BBS would become a job for you. You'd have to police it day in and day out all the time. It wouldn't be a forum anymore to you, but rather somewhere you have to go to do something. Setting standards, enforcing rules and having to hear the voices moan day in and day out.

And than you get down to the one nitty-gritty positive of it all, the appreciation. Mods don't get paid in anything except appreciation. Appreciation from the NG staff, the mod community and a good chunk of the BBS. That's all you get, that's the only kickback you recieve, some appreciation.

Sure, some people would come up and say: "But you get power JRS, isn't that a fucking positive." Well, no, not really. The power pretty much opens many doors of the negatives previously stated. Mod tools, as fun as they may seem, are the tools of responsibility handed to the user to do the right thing.

Others may bring up: "But JRS, surely the bonus forums you get to visit are fine, ya!?" Oh, wow, another way of talking to people. Boy howdy. I'm sure the numerous other ways of communicating with these people are completly moot to this one forum. Sure, you get to know a bit more about NG....so what? It's NG, it's a website. A great website that I do like very very much, but still a website. A little bit of pertinent information isn't gonna make my policing of this forums filth worth it one bit. Oh wow, I get to know about this inside joke, and I get to see this one little extra picture. So what?

Besides, the Mod forums is only open to the mods. Wow. A limited forum that can only talk to others. Spam all you want (maybe) WOOO. U kant bee ban'd. I get to talk to these other people. Now, don't get me wrong, the mods are okay people. But I'm not putting them on a pedestal and are gonna make knowing them seem like some sort of royal privledge. They're just regular peeps like you and me.

Now, I don't mean to downplay and shit all over the bonus stuff the mods get. Rather, I want to point out that it's (probably) not as fucking stellar as everyone else thing.

Now, going back to my choice about wanting to be a forum mod. Well, to be honest, the forum is all I really know. Everything else I'm okay with, but not to the point where I can point things out. I probably spend the majority of my time on this forum and if I had to choose to be a mod in any field, it would be in the forum. I like this forum. I like it enough to give back to it, if asked.

Just read 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' by Joe Campbell. Now I need a new book. PM me suggestions!

I'd really enjoy being a forum mod. I'm most active from 10 PM- 3 AM or later. I'd make a good forum mod because, I'd want to keep order to this amazing online community, as well as protect people who are being flamed, and take down trolls. I hate arrogance, ignorance, racisim, and all around "haters". I would try my best to be fair, and honest. I would never abuse my rights as a mod, or avoid them. I'd love to be a bigger part of the BBS, and help clean it up.

I would like to be a forum mod. I visit the BBS regularly, several hours a day. I take the BBS seriously, but I try to have some fun while I am here, too. I never act or post before thinking carefully. I act very responsibly, I am calm about things and honestly, I'm not requesting mod status to feel superior, just because I want to feel involved and help the site and its users. I also hold no particular grudges against any specific user.

I'm a student in a multimedia course in college. I know stuff about computers, the Internet and trends and threads that have already been done (at least since 2004).

I have considered changing my username, seeing as my current one is too long and doesn't exactly fit the spirit of the BBS. I would never abuse mod powers, on my honor I swear.

I look forward to your response.

Hey Wade, well uhh... Yeah, it's always been a HUGE fuckin' no no in my head to request forum mod status, because I knew that if I didn't request mod status, I wouldn't get it, and I shit you not, the moment I started posting on NG, I swore an oath that someday, no longer HOW long it took, I would one day become a forum moderator, and so this, just tickles me happy like a little giggling school girl.

So yeah, I would really like to be a BBS forum mod, I've been there occasionly when someone breaks the rules, and been a bit of a back seat mod, PMing the other mods when someone crosses the line.

Also, I think my 2-3 month or so lack of bans right now helps a bit.

As common as it may be within this topic, my choice would also be a forum mod.
Although I'm a relatively new member, I've known and enjoyed Newgrounds and its content very much since the year of 2003.

A forum moderator is basically an individual who regulates the Newgrounds message board. The BBS is the largest exchange of member opinions, ideas, and discussion on the entire site. Since Newgrounds has a gargantuan amount of viewers daily, it's not surprising that it has about that many new members joining at the same rate.

Like most opportunities, they can be abused; the BBS is the epitome of that example. Newgrounds is a site based on flash, thus something such as a forum would be unnecessary. It is purely for the user benefit and truly serves little purpose within the true purpose of the website. Since there is so much abuse in the BBS, a good forum moderator is required. One that abides by all of the rules and understands that they are not any better than the members they regulate. A good forum moderator will not imbue ANY bias or opinionated thoughts within his administrative duties.

When not piled in mountains of chores and homework, most, if not all of my time is devoted into the Internet. Since it's used by myself so frequently, I'm very aware of the sheer amount of ignorance that it hosts. I've been a member of a multitude of forums ranging from very intelligent ones with coherent member input, to less significant ones with a pure idiocy among the users. Because of this, I'm very flexible with my formality depending on the website. In addition, I can easily differentiate sarcasm and silliness from spam and useless replies.

Once again, this is my own person outlook if becoming an specific administrator was an option.

Well, I would certainly like to be a forum mod. I haven't really been particularly active as of late though. I get home from school at 2:30ish and log on sometime during the afternoon or night and make a few posts.

While I feel I haven't been as active, I also feel that my post quality has improved. I used to try and post in most of the active topics, even if it meant posting useless one-liners. Now I kinda just find a few topics I can really post in and post what I think are pretty well-thought out comments. Anyway, not a realistic thing to think about now but perhaps someday...

As for the other mod positions, I'm not really interested in them. I don't really go to the audio portal much and review and icon modding just sounds boring.

I am usually on the Newgrounds between 4 PM and 12 AM during week days and on weekends 11 AM - 3 AM (Except sometimes on Friday or Saturday when I don't get home until around 12 AM.)

My most likely choice would be a Forum Moderator since I mainly spend my time viewing topics around the BBS but it seems like there are so many Forum Moderators already. I think it would be fun to be an Icon Moderator because it gives me a variety of things to do and I myself love making icons for flash, I also have an eye for good graphic design.

If given the choice I would most likely choose Forum Moderation because I visit the BBS a lot but if there is a limited amount of Icon Moderators I would be more then happy to join the team.

Out of my excitement, I wasn't seeing clearly. Anyway, a few other things, you know on paltalk, that I am on the BBS QUITE a lot, I have also been highly responsible with my paltalk admin status, even ask other paltalkers, I'm also a volunteer admin on some counter strike servers, my focus on there is to keep things straight, and occasionly have fun with the people on there, when I'm not banning some tard of a TK'er. So, as I've said, I have quite expierience with admin privleges, knowing that they ARE PRIVLEGES, and that they were given to me, and that they trusted me, so I do not let them down. I'm also a very kind-hearted person, behind this paltalk womanizer, a few examples are me making an "are you okay?" thread for peacekid, my number one enemy, when he was in a 6.5 earthquake.

Woah wasn't expecting to see this in the forum.

Wade. Just to be honest and for the record I did ask if I could be one once before I found out that it was frowned upon a long time ago.

I have had a problem with abusive reviews pretty much since I've been here and the first time I posted was in a thread you made about the Out war link spam. It's pretty much one of the things that concerns me most about Newgrounds. Hell if authors have to deal with stupid comments all the time their morale for contributing here drops just as much. I know plenty of talented author's that just lost interest because of this.

I am on again off again a little everyday but I do catch alot and of course it would be more so if I was a review mod. It also would be nice to be one just so I don't have to ask the ones I know to help me out all the time when I see nasty comments attacking authors and such.

However, either way it's real nice to read good news here about the new review system and hope it continues to be as effective as I suspect it is.

Err. You asked for two... umm... If in the future there are ever flash collection mods I hope you can keep me in mind for that. I helped Tom put the anime collection together. However seeing as the icon mod is close to it I wouldn't mind taking a shot at that.

If I had the chance to become a Newgrounds moderator, my first pick would be forum moderator. On the vast majority of weekdays, the most time I spend on Newgrounds is during late afternoon to late night (anytime from 6 PM to 12 and sometimes 2 AM). Of course, I do not spend all of this time on Newgrounds. I might be chatting with friends, or working on school work, updating my iPod with songs, etc. On weekends, if I do not have any important plans, I might be on Newgrounds anytime from 8 to 10 AM, and 6 PM to 2 AM.

But every now and then during those time frames, I pop into the BBS (I usually frequent the General, Where is?/How to?, and Clubs and Crews forums) to socialize with other Newgrounds members, or help users out, and overall, try to enjoy myself.

Then there are times, many times, when I see users posting spam, breaking rules, basically being assholes, or others just oblivious to the rules. I think to myself, why must there always be people like them out there, crapping up the forums to have their (limited) juvenile fun, while others are not so much amused?

We do have very capable mods, and their numbers continue to increase over time. But only a small portion of those moderators are active during the common day. Sure, the mods are efficient, but they don't ALWAYS catch every single rule breaker.

What we need is more users who spend a lot of time on NG, more so than the average mod, to be given modship. This is why I would make a good forums moderator. Because I spend so much time on Newgrouds, I could help enforce the rules in the forums, to make them a more enjoyable place.

My second pick would be review moderator. The recent change in the whistle system caused me to upgrade to the gold whistle, and this motivated me to start flagging reviews again, so I could obtain a deity whistle. There are thousands upon thousands of flash movies/games on Newgrounds, and a good portion of those have heaps of abusive reviews.

Abusive reviews are the shit stains upon newgrounds. No person, or flash author for this matter, likes seeing reviews like "ZOMFG U SUCK !11!1oneone, GO HANG YOURSLEF!." They want to see helpful reviews, reviews in which the user states what they liked or didn't liked, and what they think the author should improve on.

If we filter out the abusive reviews from Newgrounds, it will be like washing a slightly dirty, but very expensive automobile. We will cleanse something that is already great, to make it even greater. I'm not saying we will be able to get rid of ALL the abusive reviews, because NG gets new users daily, but the more review moderators we have, the more we can get done, and also in less time.

I would make a good review moderator because, as stated earlier, I spend a lot of time on Newgrouds, I have a desire to help Newgrounds and watch it become greater, and I believe that authors shouldn't have to look through shit reviews to get to the positive, helpful ones. Bad reviews make the NG community look bad, and i believe that that should be fixed.

I would like to be a forum mod, because on newgrounds, I spend most of my time on the forums. I am pretty good at following the rules and can usually tell when a thread is a spam thread. I see lots of times people break the rules and the thread never gets locked or deleted, I would enforce the rules as much as possible without abusing my power banning someone who pisses me off. I am most active on newgrounds between the hours of 6:00-1:00 newgrounds time, and almost all day on weekends if i am not busy.

Did you just put your balls on my sandwich?
