Mod request

Mod:
Forum mod.

Why I believe I should be an administrator:
The reason being is because of the following.

-Experience-
I have experience in moderating and administrating. In forums and online games alike. I have modded game ladders and moderated many forums. These forums include:
www.madnesscombat.net
www.bunnytracks.com (or .net)

I have moderated and administrated in real life situation. In social situations and situations when time is limited or panic. This would include times when leadership is required to achieve a target. Such as a project or group in real life. Including situations in drama when certain problems arise.

-Enthusiasm-
I'm determined to co-ordinate the Newgrounds Forums at the top of my ability. To take an important roll in helping in with running the community and being involved with the staff groups and thinking of new ideas, opinions and requests alike.

I am determined to take responsibility and to lock, edit, move or remove offensive post. Or when a topic is requiring movement.

I will abide by the forums' law and conduct that Newgrounds requires.

What will granting me these powers cause:
If I am granted the powers over Newgrounds, you should expect moderation from me in the following timeframe.

UK time:

9: AM
To
10 PM- 12 PM.

While this timeframe is not constant, I will most likely abide by it and do the work that is expected within a 13 hours period of time.

Fluent in English:
My English skills are fluent and clear, and this will help in keeping teh Newgrounds law in order and showing users the way Newgrounds is moderated.

How I will act:
I will not act like a 'power-mad' person;
I will act like a normal mod and help users in problems they may have, or any request they may want to put forward. I will converser with users equally and fairly.

I will do "backmodding" and give reasons to topic locking and bans. I will treat members with respect and care.

I will respect even the lowest of ranked people as much as people regarded as awesome. ;)

Thank you.

Yours,
A.Cornforth.

I look forward to your reply, Tom! ;)

Aside from the fact that I already mentioned that my specialty would be a forum moderator, I also think that I'd work pretty well as a Review moderator. Reasons are:

I've managed to explain to a few people how to make good reviews, and they have actually learnt. Therefore, I know what makes a good review, and what makes an abusive review, what should be deleted, what shouldn't, etc. I admit that I have made a few bad reviews myself, but I have been punished, and I have learnt by my mistakes. And I think due to that experience, I know that it'd really help if people could follow the same way I did.

I might not be the best at being an icon moderator, although again, I know what to do with the job, and I can be responsible, so I also think that an icon moderator would be an okay job too. Not much to say on that one really, but that's really all I have to say. My enthusiasm for that is rather low.

And I wouldn't like to be an audio moderator, definately not my specialty. So, to recap:

1. Forum moderator
2. Review moderator
3. Icon moderator
4. Review moderator.

Anyway, good luck to those who are chosen as moderators. :)

Sorry about the double post! accidentally pressed submit out of the excitement

Thanks for the opportunity Wade!
I wouldnt mind being a
1st - Forum mod
2nd - review mod

Any mod job would be fine, it doesnt really matter.

I am usually on from 4-10 pm (eastern time)on and off on weekdays and on late nights and mornings on weekends.

I would make a good mod because:

1- I pretty know the rules by heart now (thanks to Maus)
2- I get along with most users
3- I can tell which topics are relevent topics and which topics arent really relevent. (even though sometimes i may post in one)
4- I am trying to learn flash myself and i know how hard it is to make one, so people flaming others for not making an amazing flash wont be tolerated
5- Im a regular! ( you cant have a mod that doesnt even show up!)

Thanks again

I would be a forum moderator. I have had moderator experience before on other forums, so I know what it's like. I know when topics get out of hand and are full of spam, and I know when a user is being an idiot and needs to be banned.

Hmmm, I'm tentative about posting here, seeing as how you might like to see who is desperate, and who isn't, but Hey, what the Hell.

I would like to be ANY type of mod. To be any type of privileged user would be a HUGE honor.

I'm a pretty mature user, I'd say, and I don't find abusing mod tools to be entertaining.

I'm usually on for 3-4 hours a day as an unprivileged user, but if I was modded, I would be here anywhere from 5-8 hours a day.

-'ve had moderation experiences on several other semi-large forums, and I am an administrator of my own, very small forum.

I DO enjoy coming here, and I would like to better NG in any way I can.

So if there's any openings, then I'd be more than glad to help out.

It has been my dream to be a forum mod. Of the art forum. I would do anything for that and to help out the newgrounds community. If that isnt possible id like to be a review mod. That would be very fun!

Response to Would you like to be a mod? 2006-10-17 16:42:09

Very good idea Wade. Although I can see It's already overflooding with people & posts.
Anyway:

1) Forum Mod: This is a position I've been wanting for a while. I know there are plenty of people with more posts than me, but please look past that. I really don't post alot. I spend a lot of time lurking and checking up on other threads. That's why I think I would make a fine mod. Also, I'm still student so I won't open all hours. But from 2:40-11:00 is my time to do whatever and I could easily spend more time on here. That's not really an issue for me.

2) Review Mod: Seems like a fun and good job. I can tell when reviews are being constructive or just hateful in negative reviews. Also, I feel like I don't have much to have on the site and this is a new thing I would like to do/try.

3) Icon Mod: I feel I know what's appropriate and what's not (even if I can't spell it :P). Also, I would cut no slack for well known users or such things like that. I would be honest and true with it all.

4) Audio Mod: I've never really been to the Audio Portal too much so this wouldn't be good for me.

I would like to be a forum mod. I see a lot of people that should be banned that aren't. I am normally on from 3 to 5 and 7:30 to 9 on weeknights, and the time varies on wekkends. Going to the forum is the first thing I do after I depositpoints . I have checked and double checked all forum rules ever since I first became a member. I am absolutely positive I could be a great forum mod.

I'd like to be an Audio mod.

I would like to be an Audio mod because I love music. I listen to it no matter what I am doing. It really helps me concentrate. I browse the Audio Portal all the time looking for good music and good artists. I think I could really help out the Audio Portal and make it more enjoyable for everyone.

I am still in high school so my available time would be limited to after school until around 11:00 cental standard time. Give or take an hour or two.

I'm usually on Newgrounds most of that time. I've just recently become active in the BBS and that has got me intersted in the rest of all the things this site has to offer. I'd love to be a part of helping make it better.

Thanks for the opportunity,

Wow, I screwed that up. I didn't even say why I chose that order....

1. Forum mod: I'm more active on the forums than any other part of Newgrounds. However, I know that there are many users more qualified for this than myself.

2. Icon: I think it would be fun. It would make for a nice change. I like art, and I'm alright at it.

3. Review mod: I may as well put this in, since I have a Deity whistle. I'm pretty good at telling what's abusive or not. Also what users write abusive reviews knowingly (insulting the author, etc.) versus accidentally keeping Caps Lock on when reviewing (I've done that once...)

4. Audio Mod: Music is the best thing to happen to the world. I know good music, I'm just a bit poor at making it myself (foolishly submitted something made in Audacity, but it passed inspection, so hey...)

Sorry for the mess up Wade. Feel free to delete my earlier post. =(

1st Forum Moderator

This is what I want to become the most. The reason is simple; this is where I spend most time and knows most about. Well okay, I do spend most time on the Flash Portal watching over new submissions, but I'm a person who do like to speak with people and interact a lot more than I like to just sit by watching/playing games.

In fact, I barely ever play games on my computer, even though it is a gaming computer, I spend time browsing Newgrounds and related intresting sites.

Anyways, what's so special about me that would make me into a good moderator?

Well, I do things with thought. I am very familiar with helping people (as of online and IRL), no matter if I gain anything from it or not. I do believe that I am convinced to do good that I don't crap bullshit over people.

I had this signature picture earlier that said "Here To Protect". The story behind that signature picture is quite intresting.

First off, I had it for several months without anyone noticing it, but as my level rose and my post count rose, people started noticing me, and suddenly my signature picture, that I remade and made green instead of the NG BBS's background grey colour.

Since I was now easily noticed and had been active for a while, mostly helping people out, people believed that I was a backseat mod.

The text "Here To Protect" was said to be about kicking people in the butt with a line of "Read the rules!", and the fonts were of course green since that's the colour of a moderator.

Well, that was wrong.

I saw my main duty as being a constant guide for any member of the site. It wasn't a goal I was trying to reach, but after time, I realised that people looked up to me, and respected me, and soon enough I understood that it had to do with my sense of justice.

I never liked the idea of a member who'd ACT like something they weren't, and so I ought to point out that I've never acted to be something I'm not. I've never been helping people because it'd look good on me. It's because I enjoy helping others since I'd like others to help me.

So therefore, my aura has stayed as neutral and my sig was green. Green, as in neutral.

What I did was to jump in to defend the right opinion/cause no matter if I had to tell off a moderator or a high level'd member. As it was, I became friend with loads of new members of the time, and I am still.

People have called me a BSM (backseat moderator) since a long time back. I guess they're just jealous.

If they'd look close enough, they'd realise that I've putted myself in the position where I'd get banned just to defend the right of speech.

I've made quite a lot of moderators into my enemies that way, I assume. As when I opposited the mod team's decision and made an official petition against the demoderating of Slightly_Crazy_Dude (SCD).

You have to do that you know; go with the whole "fuck the authorities" motto when you want to enforce the greater good. Because you just ought to face it: a moderator isn't right just because he's a moderator. And since that's true, the same rule applies to the administrators and whomever you'd probably not do so good with making into an enemy.

Further on, "why I'd be a good moderator":

Not only do I have a great grasp of the community itself, its surroundings and probably whom knows the most about its members, I do also have really good leader qualities.

I've been in a Swedish military organisation for soon four years where my education has relied (upon other things) a lot about leadership. It becomes quite many hours, and I'm graded highest within the organisation as of now. I've had to raise my voice once.

Besides all this, I am online about ten hours per day, split out from 0700 hours to 0030 hours, GMT +1. I live in Sweden as you can see in my profile, and if you're wondering if I'm online during hours when there are no moderators on, yes, I am. And if you want proof for that, I got long over 100 screen shots of times when the General forum section is without moderators.

Besides, I visit the other forum sections aswell, and those are unmoderated very oftenly.

The others falls in by my intrest of moderating within each area. I deem the above information enough to make an evaluation of my moderating abilities within the other fields aswell. If not, for review moderating abilities for one, just see my reviews and you probably understand that I have a good sense of what the review guidelines are and so on. Ask RageVI otherwise since I do think he could kinda see that I got a good way of seeing at things from.

2nd. Review Moderator

3rd Icon Moderator

4th Audio Moderator

All and all, I do know a lot of people on this site. But that doesn't mean that I'd be unable to moderate fairly. Remember, I've spent my time on Newgrounds as a fair person, whether it'd be bad for my popularity at one person or not.

Hm... if you have doubts, ask around.

Forum Mod

I am on usually every day (except if i'm at a reenactment or don't have a computer.) As for timing, it varies from anywhere around 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm. I would however, like to wait till I am level 10 or up to be nominated (if even possible) for a mod position. I would make a good mod because I don't tolerate spam, unless its VERY funny, maybe not even then. I don't have a favorite group of friends that i would let get away w/ shit. Besides, my old man taught me to be fair all around. Also some mods ban people who don't realize they've done anything. I would still do this, however their sentence may be lessened (sp?) Besides, I'm tired of seeing this forum full of shit. I don't want power, I just think this place could use a little cleaning up in terms of spam.

1. Forum Mod.
I'd consider my posts "mature" and I have been trying to help out a lot of the folks on the BBS.

2. Review Mod
I can't say I have many reviews, but I have been checking out flashes for abusive reviews lately.

3. Icon Mod
I've made a few icons myself. Can't really say much more about that.

4. Audio Mod
I really don't have any experience in Audio, but I had to make a fourth choice.

I know I'm not a high level, but I've been on NG for a few years now and have gotten to know the people and how things work here.

1st Forum Moderator

Most of my time on this site is spent here. I've seen all the types of spam topics, all the types of attention whores, all the types of what is supposed to be funny yet fails, and in vice-versa. I've been in all forums and have seen how each one changes, realizing that not all of them are the same, so should I go into one, I would know how to react, as well how each person has a preference on things.

During my time here, the threads that draw negative attention, which is what I would call flame bait, I would like to end before it starts. I noticed at most times, any thread that has to do with almost anything when addressed in heavily opinionated ignorant way will end up with 10 pages of flames.

I'd like to help out this site in this manner the most, since nearly half if not more of negative opinions are based on the forum, then the Flash Portal. Since I've been a PalTalk Admin, I've practically noticed a define line between joking around, disgusting, unneededness, and of all things, seriousness. It's been cool. I got the basic idea of making decisions, if anything, the BBS is more tame then PalTalk.

2nd Review Moderator

I once heard that there was a shortage of Review Mods when it came to clearing and checking abusive reviews, as well as the ones that come in. I may have the Diety Whistle, but I've noticed that it doesn't really much. As I've seen some Review Mods with Bronze, Silver, and Gold, it seems like a token for display is all. I've seen all types of reviews, helpful, unhelpful, and simply abusive, many many times. As much as I'd like to help, I think that I'd be ill-suited for this, because I rarely write reviews myself. I know the guidelines well enough, I used to check them day to day in between marking reviews abusive daily. (That was way back)

3rd Icon Mod

I'm thinking that would be easy, quick and simple. Although I'm not too sure.

4th Audio Mod

I wouldn't be able to do much in this area, I would only trust this to an Audio Forum reg since they would know this area incredibly well.

My conclusion though...

I don't post a much as I used to, yet I lurk around these forums and see what's happening, and by some stroke of luck that I find a topic that interests me, I'll post in it, saving myself the temptation to post spam for the sake of getting my post count up. It's just a number and nothing all that special (Well, that's my opinion, if you post for that, that's you.). The times that I am on from Monday-Friday 4PM-12AM NG time. I'm an hour behind the NG time, and only that. During the weekend though, I'm mostly on all day, because I don't have to work, and got nothing else better to do, other than make sigs, and write lyrics.

I picked these in order of interest and how well I thought I would do on them. While I know that I probably wasted my time writing all this out, I found it interesting that Wade would actually ask this forum about this, so I participated in it. It caught my interest. That's all I got.

Still original, creative & innovative, most known unknown.

I'd say review and forum mod, because I spend quite a bit of time on NG. I see a lot of crappy reviews that either spam, offend, or just be down right annoying. Also some completely retarded posts and ALL CAPS posts that annoy the hell out of me......... So review and forum mod.

Response to Would you like to be a mod? 2006-10-17 17:57:38

I'd really like to be both and audio and forum mod.
1st Choice: Forum Mod
2nd Choice: Audio Mod
3rd Choice: Review Mod
4th Choice: Icon Mod

I'd love to be a forum mod and audio mod. I live on these forums, specifically general, but I do browse through other sections to see what is going on. I hardly ever get banned, and I when I do, it's for posting in a spam topic, which I now do less of. I also love listening to the music in the audio portal. One of my favorite artists is ParagonX9. I visit Newgrounds daily, so handling my mod duties should not be too much of a problem.
I visit Newgrounds everyday at around 5:00PM and stay on untill about when I go to bed, which is usually 10:00PM or 11:00PM. On weekends, I usually stay on all day, starting from either 8:00AM or 12:00PM
I want to be a mod because I love Newgrounds. If I get banned or have a topic locked, I know it's because I broke the rules. I now hardly use "13375p33k" like I used to, but many others haven't. Then the BBS gets flooded with poorly written questions that can easily be answered by using google or another source. I really find that annyoing. I also dislike it when subjects that have already topics made about them, get more topics. I quite oftenly see these topics live on. I also see parody threads that lack any humor whatsoever, yet the topics stays open dispite the fact it is against the rules.
Many other rules have been blatanly ignored. I have seen several threads that end with "Discuss." I see no reason to post discuss, plus a thread about that was made. I also see users say, "Nope, sorry. I can't help you." as a response to a question. Again, another pointless post that fills a topic with useless replies. In topics like this, people usually post a helpful source, then someone else posts the exact same source. I also see some people post replies based on the topic title alone. I don't get why people don't read the thread completely, but they get away with it. I'm not saying I have never done this. I probably have, but I try not to make pointless posts like these. I'm not a perfect user, but I want to be a model user.
I hope I have given you the information needed to judge if I should be a mod. I am glad I was given the chance to prove myself able of handling mod status. I hope I become mod becuase I think Newgrounds is one awesome site, I'd like to be one of the people that help keep it that way.

Wow. This is pretty unusual. This topic is going to be a huge affair. Of course, like so many other users, I'd like to be a mod. here is my long-winded explanation why.
Firstly, I'd like to be a BBS mod.
I've seen a lot of stuff on this forum. It's one of the few that I've joined and stayed loyal to. I love the community here, and I love the way it works on the forums. What I DON'T like, however, is when someone does something flagrantly against the rules, or tries to be smart and smug by circumventing them. I've seen two incidents of some vagrant asshole posting child pornography, and while their threads were deleted very swiftly, I saw them, and wish I had not. I want to be able to spare people from that kind of thing, you know?
While I like to be a bit silly on these forums, I can also be comfortable being totally serious. I'm not sure how I come off to everyone, like if everyone sees me as a goofy little weirdo or anything like that. Regardless of my affinity for nonsense, I still hold a very high regard for the rules. The only rule I've ever been banned for, to my knowledge, would be minor spam offenses, which have become more infrequent over the past year or two. I know that we have rules for a reason, and without them, the forums would fall into something just short of chaos. Basically, we'd be 4chan with a post limit. Rules need to be enforced to be effective. I find it weird how so many people complain about mods being too harsh, since they have no real incentive to be mean. It's not like they get paid to be strict, it just depends on personal views of the rules. It takes all kinds to be moderators, because what one mod may see as totally inappropriate may seem rule-abiding to another mod.
To put it right out there, I want to be a mod because i want to help keep the place neat. I want to give something back to the forum community that has provided me with so much entertainment, and I would pride myself in my duty. I realize that it may sound corny, but I really do want to help out like that.

Secondly, I would like to be a review mod.
I don't like it when people give abusive reviews. Not only does it skew the review score average, but it can discourage emerging flash artists. I've flagged thousands of reviews. No joke. Before I got involved in the general forums, i was a Wi/Ht junkie, and I flagged reviews like it was my job.
I would like to help clean up reviews because, frankly, abusive reviews bug the hell out of me. Although, I don't flag reviews if they're just kind of short, or only contain a minor or indirect offense. I only flag those that are either blatant, one in a series of abuse, or just plain aainst the rules, no way around it. I guess that means I'm not as much of a whistle whore that I could have been (if I was pickier, I probably would have gotten gold before the whistle glitch was fixed).
In the samesort of vein as that of my reasoning for my wanting to be a BBS mod, i want to do the same for reviews. While the reviews may not reach as many people as the forum posts do, they DO make their way to the flash authors. The authors shouldn't have to get worked up about people being assholes and leaving abusive reviews on their stuff.

Actually, I don't think I'm cut out for it, I don't get wrapped up enough in INTERNETS DRAMA to go on the mod forum.

I wouldn't mind donating some of my time on newgrounds modding. I've been on newgrounds for a long time and understand for the most part what is acceptable or not. My hours are usually late afternoon to night eastern time weekdays, weekends vary.

Review mod would be my first choice as flagging is where I have most experience. I understand the review rules thoroughly and as such understand what constitutes abusive, non-abusive, or borderline reviews. Furthermore after flagging so many abusive reviews it has become something enjoyable which would make modding easier for me. For you I'd just be an extra helping hand.

Icon mod would be my second choice. The reason behind this is because it sounds pretty straightforward and easy.

Forum mod would be my third choice only for the fact that I'm fairly new to the forums. I myself am still learning what is acceptable on the forums and so it would be unfair to mod me. However, later on when I'm a more experienced forum user feel free to ask. If more experienced this would be my second choice.

Why should you consider me?

First I love this website and come here often. Second I'm mature and third I'm fair. Furthermore, I have a long time newgrounds account so if modded chances are I'll still be here later on, eg.. longevity=experience=fair mod.

If help is needed the answer is yes. When available, I can help.

Well.. Now that you ask us to tell what we want to do for newgrounds..

1: Audio mod
I have always been fascinated by the audio portal, havn't spent that much time in there, but it's a part of newgrounds that should grow and i would love to help it on its way.

Well ye that's it, even if this would happen, i wouldn't have enough free time to do more than one task, and seeing as the audio portal is my favorite area, that'd be the best place to spend the time on. Really, i have never really wanted to become a forum mod, you just get to take more shit than you're used to and it seems to consume alot of time.. Also those two other things sound pretty pointless (atleast the icon mod).

Interesting, I've never done this before but why not. Firstly let me say the times I'm active, living in Israel it may prove a bit inconvenient but I usually do my best. to put in NG time, I'm active from 00:01-01:30 and from 10:30-17:30 on weekdays, and pretty much 24 hours on holidays and weekends.

Secondly, I would choose forum moderator, since as I usually visit the C&C and currently do most of the "administrative work" for 1 club. People actually quite often spam entire clubs, it would be great being able to stop those spamming attacks as they happen.

And Thirdly, I think I could be a good moderator mostly because I'm active, have enough intellect to tell from a spam post and a normal one. And I can promise that if given the opportunity, I'll put past feuds behind and be objective.

I chose this since even though I spend much time on the Flash portal, and to flag reviews every now and then, I think I can do my best in the BBS.

Following the pattern of some, I’ll include my priorities as well.

My second choice would be Icon mod, since I spend as much time on the Flash portal, as I do on the BBS. And being active there some times there are controversial or horrible icons. Certain body parts that shouldn’t be shown, plainly useless icons and etc...

As I stated before, my total amount of time on a week day of activity is around 10.5 hours, this including 8 hours of learning pretty much nothing, and my usual 5.5 hours of sleep.

As to why I’d make a good moderator in Icons, is quite like the reason in BBS, my activity is daily, I can actually do the job. And I’ll be objective.

Next up will have to be review mod. I don’t write or flag too many of them, and 2 or so years back when I joined, mine were horrible. But, I think that now I could be a review mod, but it’s just one of the things that interest me most and I know people much worthier of it any how. As for qualifications and activity time, it’s all mentioned above so why grind water.

Lastly, Audio mod. I am no audio expert and don’t pretend to be one. But whether some thing is stolen, or plain useless, I believe I could tell which ones those will be. The rest has no point in being mentioned once more, I wrote all activity times and such, above.

Here goes nothing.

I'd mainly like to be a forum mod just because I feel like helping out with cleaning up this forum.

As for any other modship, I guess I wouldn't mind being a review mod either.
