A new Ghost in the Shell anime is coming. Called "Arise". In 2013.

And here's the new Major.

Somehow even more creepily-drawn than in the last one.

I still want to see / read it, though. GitS is still the only anime series where I've actually gone and read the original manga. It was every bit as good as the anime. I'm sure people are going to hate me for putting GitS and "good" in the same sentence, but this is an opinion so fuck you all.

So I finished Tokko today. I see what people mean about the abrupt ending but other than that I thought it was a good watch. Definitely felt like there was meant to be another series though. In fact, I sort of got the impression that the original intention was to have it as a long running series seeing as they had to collect 108 pieces of a box.

Of the anime I bought, that just leaves me with Ouran High School Host Club to watch. Not sure what I'll get after that.

Why, is it considered bad? I was thinking of picking up GITS: SAC 1st Gig some time soon. Trying to find things on Amazon that are selling at a reasonable price. I'll probably end up going with Noein, Claymore or Buso Renkin. All three of those seem to have decent ratings and are at a reasonable price.

I don't know about the other 2... but Claymore is amazing, I marathoned the entire season in a single night... all 26 episodes.

Only amongst the people too obsessed with conforming to non-conformity to actually look at it from a neutral perspective. Anime is all about opinion, but mine is that it's one of the best ever made and still my personal favourite even after more than 10 years of watching random Japanese cartoons. Hell, it has to be doing something right to get a sequel even now; the original manga was published in 1989.

Response to Anime Club 2013-01-16 22:09:16

SAC is widely renowned. It's just the first movie by Mamoru Oshii that's panned in certain circles of anime fans. I myself like everything GITS. I look forward to this new one.

I'll quite possibly get that ordered at some point then. Currently about half way through Ouran High School Host Club and although I was sceptical of it at first, it's really fun. I just like the silly, feel-good sense of humour it has.

Where do you order anime from? Amazon? I could recommend you some good anime that's available for a good price. Also, there's a decent website called Rightstuf(just one f) that has good deals, and they often have big sales for a limited time.

Yea, I've just been using Amazon.co.uk. So far I haven't bought a series that exceeded £10. I still have a few series book marked that are below £14 that I'd like to get but as things get more expensive I'm more hesitant to buy them. I have thing like Darker Than Black, Moribito, Baccano! and Trigun bookmarked but they range from £19-25. I'd like to get them all eventually but at that price, I'd be buring a lot of money faster than I'd like.

The irritating thing is that Amazon also has some other DVDs I've been wanting. Bigger boxsets that aren't anime. Stuff like the complete Battlestar Gillactica and the set of the older Star Trek movies. They're both quite expensive (£40) but there's a lot of watching in them. I've also been considering making the switch to Blu-Ray, seeing as they're at a more reasonable price these days but then that'd mean investing in a Blu-Ray player which can still be quite expensive.

We recently converted out spare room into a sort of lounge / TV room. We're just waiting on a new sofa to arrive for it but there's currently a nice 40" TV in that I'd want to start using to watch DVDs. Currently I just watch them in my room and I sit on an office type chair which isn't the most comfortable thing if you're watching a film because you can't really lean back on it.

Oh, I didn't know you were looking for something that cheap. Baccano and Darker Than Black are fantastic shows. I'd count them among my favorite anime shows. And Trigun is very good.

Thing is, I don't even consider that cheap. In the case of Baccano!, it's £22 for about 6 hours of anime. Compare that with the £70 I paid for over 130 hours of Star Trek: Next Generation. I'd like to buy more anime but it's pretty expensive if you ask me.

Well peer pressure finally got to me so I decided to check out the Dragonball series (Starting with Dragonball) Honestly I dont know why I didn't like it at first without giving it a try. Guess I was a bit of a douche. Also I'm working on reading the Manga Romeo X Juliet which is an anime retelling of well Romeo and Juliet. It's better then I thought and nothing to like you know mushy and stuff. Also I think it was called Clamp I was reading. Not sure what it's about though. Oh and a few other mangas I'll post later

In my opinion, Dragonball is a lot better than Dragonball Z.

I'm gonna have to reread Berserk because I remember fuckall as far as the sequence of events and their significance.

In my opinion,

And don't you forget it.

I haven't watched Dragon Ball in a long time, but I still prefer Z.

The Yu Yu Hakusho comparison is understandable but Hokuto no ken is fairly different.
It's been a long time since I've watched Dragon Ball Z, so I don't remember how good it was, though I did like it at the time, I should actually rewatch it and also watch the original Dragon Ball. The thing that I don't like about these shows though is all the filler that they add in the episodes. One Piece and Naruto have filler, but the fillers are separate episodes, the main story arc episodes don't have filler in them, which makes the filler easy to skip, whereas with DB and DBZ the filler is spread throughout all the episodes, so it's kind of annoying.

I made the comparison because it's also a super long show that has ridiculously powerful characters and they both reek of testosterone. Plus they're always announcing special moves. But I guess so.

I only watch it anymore for nostalgia. I actually think the movies were a lot better than the episodes of the series. I think a big part of it is the restricted time length. In the show, things got dragged out ridiculously and the characters would talk forever instead of just fighting it out. You can't get away with that crap when you're trying to make a standalone movie at 90 minutes run time or less.

All I have is a little figurine of Guts, which was given to me as a gift for my....I'm gonna guess 13th birthday. I think I still have it, anyway.

When I was very young, I had a few DBZ action figures and an action figure of Tenchi when he has the sword and funky costume and stuff.

Okami is one of my favorite games. It's fun as hell and original. The hardest part is dying because I somehow beat it with no deaths according to the bonus screen.

Laptop's finally become a useless brick so I've got to use my tablet again.

hah. Yeah, it's kind of easy.

Also, I love the OST. What I like is all the mellow, chill tracks that you can sleep to.

I don't really buy any anime stuff beyond posters, DVDs and the occasional T-shirt. I had my eye on some anime figures, but I usually end up passing up on them due to the fact that I don't have any room for them, and I don't want my nephews messing them up.

Various places, mostly online.
