The level of fanservice is ridiculous, but the action is quite entertaining. It's worth a look. A lot of people hate on it, but I just wonder what said people were expecting from a show called High School of the Dead, especially after seeing previews.

People always hate shows that are popular. They try to find flaws in them and make them seem like they are a lot worse than they really are. Not that High School of the Dead is a gem or anything like that

I watched Royal Space Force: The Wings of HonnÃÂȘamise on Saturday via Hulu. It's Gainax's very first film from 1987. The animation is really well-done, especially since the whole movie is almost two hours long.

The story is quite unique. It's about a guy who volunteers to be the first human in space (note that this takes place on an Earth-like planet, in some interviews it's hinted to be near Alpha Centauri). I can't really say anything else except if you're further interested, I reccomended reading it up on other sites to see if you like it.

While it may not be absolutely perfect, it's still good and I reccomended giving it a watch.

I appreciate the responses guys. At this point I have a fair bit of stuff bookmarked and I reckon I'll just buy one of them every once in a while. Although I just rediscovered the site that I was using to stream FMA: Brotherhood a while back and it has English dubs of just about all the animes I was interested in, so I can just use it to get an idea of what they're like. I'll still buy the DVDs rather than streaming it though. Call me crazy, but I prefer to actual own physical copies of stuff like this.

Might start with Tokko, just because it's cheap for the series and although it doesn't seem to be the most highly rated anime ever, the little that I watched actually seems like it should be good. I now see what you mean about High School of the Dead just being fanservice as well, but you know, I actually didn't think it was too bad to watch. Mindless zombie killing and whatnot.

Was also looking at Rin, Daughters of Mnemosyne. It seems to be gore and sex but has anyone seen it? I'm still a total noob when it comes to all this stuff. It seemed interesting though.

eeeh. It had its moments, but I dunno. It turns into pretty much quasi-hentai and it just seems to lose steam.

I think that this is the right place to ask this question. Can anyone suggest me an anime that is similar to death note?

Code Geass has the same of level of "aha, you thought you knew what i knew but actually i knew that you thought you knew what i knew so i manipulated you so you thought i didnt know you know what i knew"

hah. That's what annoyed me about Death Note. It was a neat idea and it was an interesting show, but it was a bit contrived at times. Plus, after L dies, it's all downhill from there.

Finished watching this.

It went completely off the deep end a few times, and the final episode broke the 4th wall in a spectacular fashion, but if you're in the mood for some silly innuendo humour then it's definitely worth a watch. Especially considering it's only 14 episodes long, which IMO is a good length for something like this (it was starting to get samey by the end, so finishing where it did was a wise move).

Now I'm watching this... And I'm not having anywhere near as much fun. So far it's getting a resounding 'Meh', for the same reason Haruhi Suzumiya did: The main female character is an unwatchable, insufferable brat.

Has anyone watched this one all the way through? The only way this would turn out to be worth putting up with is if said female character changes her tone pretty quickly, or at least gives a good enough reason for being such a bitch. Haruhi was ruined by the fact that Haruhi herself was a socially retarded dipshit from start to finish, and this is looking far too familiar for me to watch the whole thing on good faith, so some input here would be much appreciated. Preferably spoiler-free, but eh; An answer is an answer.

Run was nominated for most underrated song of 2012.
From final fantasy 13-2. You can hear the lesser version in the demo version of the game. This version seems to play in more heated battles.

Say what you want about final fantasy and how its gone downhill, the music is still rad as hell.

I'm just a dreamer.

Fun break.

I read five of the Baccano novels (first five) and they're fantastic. The anime follows it pretty faithfully but it's still a worthwhile read if you loved the TV series.

I watched the Needless anime and the finale is terrible. Bullshit asspulls out of nowhere, but some stuff is so obvious. Yamada's sister still being alive? Obvious as fuck once you see the OP. Ruri is one of the Eve projects? Yep. The manga handles everything better and has trap Yamada.

notanime, but Hitman (not based on the game series) by Garth Ennis is fucking amazing. I read the whole comic in a week and the cast is some of the best I've seen. All of them are loveable, but Ennis pulls no punches so be ready to laugh, cry, etc. Read that shit, guys, it's brilliant.

oh man, i need to get back into that game and beat it. yeah, the story is laughable and down right painful at times but man is the combat fun (streamlined etc...) and the music is damn good for both XIII entries.

I should get back to it too. I stopped playing like 1/4 of the way through the first disc. One thing you can say about Final Fantasy 13, you payed for the game and you get a 2 hour movie. It's such a deal

Kaiji, features characters attempting to outsmart eachother, and the atmosphere is similar due to it having the same composer and animation studio.

My copy of Highlander: The Search For Vengeance arrived this morning. Just got done watching it. My opinion on anime movies probably doesn't mean much but it was actually pretty good as far as I'm concerned. It seemed to be partly it's own story while partly borrowing stuff from the original Highlander movie. Still, wasn't bad for my first ever anime DVD. Suppose I best get ordering another one some time soon.

I'm probably easier to please than most people. If something is even remotely interesting I'm quite happy to sit through it and find out what happens. From what I've seen of the Highlander franchise, it's actually probably better than most, if not all, of the sequels to the original film. The ones I've seen anyway. But then I didn't even find them as bad as a lot of people did.

Anyway, I took the plunge and ordered 3 anime series:

Tokko
Jyu-Oh-Sei
Ouran High School Host Club

I've watched little bits of them all online and they seem pretty interesting. Tokko and Jyu-Oh-Sei seem to be considered pretty average from what I've gathered but I figured I'd check them out anyway. They weren't all that expensive given that there's 20 hours of material right there.

Also liking the look of Buccano! but that costs more than I just paid for those three series and it doesn't seem particularly long either. It'll take me a while to get through the series I just ordered anyway.

Just got done watching through FMA: Brotherhood and the ending definitely made up for the pretty lengthy journey in my opinion. I didn't like the idea of just leaving the series half way through so I stuck with it and it definitely paid off.

One of the last lines was "men who just sit around doing nothing are boring." Way to ruin the feel good atmosphere of the ending :(

I'll probably sit through the first half of Jyu-Oh-Sei tonight. The series that I ordered arrived this morning.

Evangelion 3.0 sort of sucks. My expectations weren't even high but it was a letdown anyway. You may as well just watch episode 24 and pause at the still frame for an hour, you'll get the same amount of excitement from it. Actually you'd probably get more, since in episode 24 the kowaru situation is actually surprising and you'll still care about the characters.

I'll try to keep spoilers to a minimum, but basically everyone's personality has completely changed, everyone hates shinji and the entirety of 2.22 was for nothing. This whole build up of Mari being this all-important agent who's going to fuck some shit up amounts to nothing, she's just Asuka's sidekick. Misato, Ritsuko, Gendo and the NERV technicians get maybe 10 lines to share throughout. Rei may as well not be there. There's a beginning, an end, and a desolate void in between, with any exposition being things we already know or things establsihed in the original series. There was no reason not to have a few scenes on board the Wunder to break up that hour of emo shinji a little.

They fucked more or less everything up and made it obvious that they never had any idea where they were going with rebuild. Also the preview for 4.0 shows Mari and Asuka's evas stitched together right down the middle. What the fuck are you doing, Anno? I knew writing without the beard was a bad idea.

Still, it looks like Asuka at least will be more involved in 4.0, hopefully the characters we actually give a shit about will come back and these generic space opera cardboard cutouts will fuck right off.

Not sure if I'm in a position to make recommendations but Jyu-Oh-Sei was actually pretty good. From what I gather it isn't that well known either. It's not too long so I just say through the whole thing this evening. I think it's about 5 hours and sort of split into two halves. The first half has a pretty straightforward plot but things get a bit different and more complex in the second half.

I'd definitely say it's worth a watch if anyone is looking for suggestions.

I'm going to start on Tokko tomorrow which I don't believe is meant to be so great due to a rushed ending. Still, looked interesting enough to me.

kthanks.

Cromartie High School
Great Teacher Onizuka
Shin Chan (English dub is hilarious)
Lupin III (it's not a full on comedy, but it has a lot of humor)

Just stumbled upon this place. I was just wondering, would anybody be able to recommend anything for me? I'm not the biggest anime fan, but I do enjoy certain series. In terms of what I've watched and actually enjoyed, here's a short list:

Death Note
Monster
Naruto
Dragon Ball Z

I've tried Hellsing, Bleach, Fairy Tail, One Piece, among others, but I couldn't get into them. I've heard good things about Code Geass, but I'm not too sure about that one either. I really like gripping and well-detailed plots, preferably with some action thrown in, and perhaps some comedic aspects.
