So for the past few months I've been watching this anime called "Girls Bravo" it's about some chick who lives in a world where women are the dominent species and falls into our dimension and meets some pussy ass kid whos alergic to girls and it's pretty much a slapstick ecchi comedy.

Personally I find it okay but it does get a bit repetitive after a few episodes not to mention I might consider swtiching to the dubs because the voices sucks ass.

What do you guys think of it/?

I haven't really watched any series in a long time, but I've been trying to pick up some movies.

Another movie yet to be mentioned is Metropolis. Fantastic movie about a futuristic city and conflict involving intelligent robots and humans. It's art style seems like a mix of anime/western cartoons.

Read spoilers from Usagi Drop manga.

Am now thoroughly depressed and disappointed.

I saw "my neighbor Totoro" the other day for the first time.....the guy that makes it, "whats his name" is what we will call him, seems to be beyond perverted. I've seen some of his other works, all of which involve completely unnecessary up-skirt views of underaged girls and I swear to god when that cat bus jumped I was it's ballsack. And as proof, me and my friends paused the video, then debated weather it was a vagina, or a ballsack. Yeaaaaaahh.....

I'm just a dreamer.

I love Metropolis

One of the first anime movies I ever had the pleasure of watching. It really works for both a western and eastern audience like you said.

There are actually a lot of movies that have been inspired by several anime series. It's common knowledge that The Matrix was heavily based off of Ghost in the Shell. Also, the music video for Stronger by Kanye West was based off of Akira.

I've heard of it. Does it have any sort of relation to the 1920s film?

I just watched Gunbuster, wow. I struggle to find the words to say how awesome it is. It's simply stunning how much they packed into just six episodes, how many heart-wrenching moments there were, just, everything. The plot is as simple as they get (Aliens threaten to kill Earth, humanity fights back), but that's just setting, it's just a coming of age that happens to be in the midst of a battle with aliens. It's not often I find my throat clenching and other manly expressions of emotion in the second episode, yet alone also the third, fourth, fifth and sixth. It's just a shame I had the ending spoiled for me (specifically, I found it in a thread on /a/ called "The most powerful moments in anime" and decided that if such a simple image could be so good, it was probably worth checking out), but while most of my suspense was lost, it still rocked. In fact, the whole of the final episode was amazing, especially the lack of sound coupled with the sketched images of the last battle.

Yeah, I'm in love.

I don't know why this isn't a staple recommendation for everyone, because it should be. (Although I know mendou reccy'd it for me so cheers brah).

Hey guys. It's been three years since I last posted here. Yesterday I finished Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket. I seriously think that it's one of the greatest anime ever made. I even clapped during the ending.

That was great, definitely one of my favorite animated movies.
Its definitely worth the watch, but is surprisingly not that known.

I myself never heard of it when I saw it, I accidentally found it in our local library.

0080 is a stunning work of art. Not only is it sharp and nice to look at, but man it provides one hell of a sad story. Just like Gunbuster, it manages to do in 6 episodes what a lot of shows could never do in even 26-50 episodes. Engage, entertain, thought provoking and emotionally moving, all at the same time.

Critically, it's probably the best offering in the Gundam franchise. And considering Gundam has had over ten 50 episode tv series, that's saying a lot.

And speaking of Gunbuster...

No prob dude. Episode 6's ending moves me to tears every time I see or even think about it. I desperately, desperately NEED to give it a rewatch, it actually has been a few years since I've seen it last.

I decided to give Kino's Journey a go, the kind of show I don't normally go for, but it was a good watch. Kind of funny how the overall message of the show is to have hope, love and appreciation for life and what we have, while also entirely criticizing humanity and our mistakes we make as a society. Like the end of every episode just ends with a "Wow humans sure are fucking stupid" punchline, almost. To me at least.

if that sounds pretentious then don't worry. It never gets too preachy or anything. But, while it was worth the watch, I can't say I was particularly engaged. And I suppose that was intentional since Kino is a traveler, someone who can't get too close to people, only observe. And we as the viewer have to do the same. While that brings an interesting tone to the show, it also leaves a rather cold one. As I prefer to feel somewhat attached to what I'm watching.

Regardless, it's a good, short watch.

Gundam 0080 isn't the only anime i've seen during my absence from this club, I've also watched Cowboy Bebop, Fist of the North Star, Gunbuster, the first two Patlabor films, Memories, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, the Mobile Suit Gundam compilation movies, and many others.

All great, might I add. I really need to see the second Patlabor film. The bluray rip is awesome.

That's true for the AU series, but for UC, they're all part of the same continuity/timeline. That said, I think the OVAs (War in the Pocket, Stardust Memories, 08th MS Team, etc) are stand-alone but since I haven't seen them myself, I can't really confirm if that's the truth/case.

heh, I'm actually taken a break from KS to watch Gundam 00. The mobile suit designs are great (the Exia is probably my favorite of the four suits), and the show's fantastic overall.

They are some trivial similarities I've noticed between it and Gundam Wing like Heero/Setsuna although considering the latter's backstory, he's more similar to Sousuke from FMP. There's also the fact that Alleulah has a multiple-personality like Une. Since the world is in a love/hate relationship with Celestial Being, it's similar to how the Gundam pilots in Wing were treated.

It takes place a bit before the end of Gundam 0079(the original show). But really all you need to know is that it's about two forces in conflict; the Earth Federation forces, and the Principality of Zeon. Who are made up of 'spacenoids'(People who moved out of earth to live in space colonies, with them trying to gain political independence from the Federation forces).

That's about the gist of it. 0080 was a stand alone OVA that came out almost a decade after 0079, so it's still plenty watachable without alienating anyone unfamiliar with the original story.

At 7/25/11 12:59 PM, SomaGuye wrote:

The original shows are all sequels to 0079(0079-Zeta-ZZ Gundam-Char's Counter Attack-Gundam F-91 and then Victory Gundam), and take place in the Universal Century canon. Everything else like Wing, X, G-Gundam, Seed/Seed Destiny, Turn A and 00 are all in their own separate universes and can be watched on their own.

If it sounds confusing, it isn't. You get used to it very quickly, and it's a very engaging franchise.

The only thing that sucks is that I'm so used to the dub voices in Persona 4, it's going be somewhat difficult to get use to the Japanese VAs (Nanako sounds alright though, so I think it'll be easy for me to adapt to them).

Oh wow, they weren't wrong, I was all choked up like a bitch for over half of the last episode. Absolutely fantastic, after 45 episodes of revelling in the idea of nothing happening, suddenly the last five episodes just threw things at you constantly. I'm glad that Origination was at least 16:9, but more importantly the character design was significantly better, like for example the detail in akari's hair. Anyway more importantly than that it was just so god damned nice.
As a series 10/10.
As a franchise 8/10, if only because I think there was too much filler, plus that fucking cat POI POI NYAAN fffffffffffffffffffuuu
