Thinking about watching 5 Centimeters Per Second. Has decent reviews and what not. What did you folks think of it?
Also watched the second episode of Ano Hana; it was great but I didn't appreciate the loli fanservice in it. Looks like the series has lots of potential; a pretty unique story line and really nice animation. This episode is nostalgic to us hipsters that grew up playing the classy Pokemon games.

Then what, pray tell, are you taking off the other point for?

Failure to live up to the hype surrounding it maybe?

Also really enjoyed 5cmps, but do watch a 1080p copy of it on a big high def screen, it really deserves it. The scenery porn in it is just phenomenal. The actual plot's not bad, although the pacing's a little off, but the art really is the star of the show.

Kinda disappointed at this week's episode of Nichijou, though I think it's mostly because I DL'd HorribleSubs' early encode with no subtitles. I got ahodemo's .ass file which synced badly with the video. Blah, it's not like I would've caught half the jokes/allusions/whatever anyway.

Also been playing SMT: Devil Survivor. I hate myself for not checking it out when it was first released (back in 2009 I think) -- it's nowhere near the level of P4 however. The second Phoenix Wright game is pretty good as well. I've just finished the second case of the game, and it was fucking amazing. [I'd love to get whipped by Von Karma's daughter, by the way.]

I agree with you on everything with the series. It could've been so much better animation wise if they actually put more effort than what they did into the series. There are far too many bad quality shots in it with some of the arcs.

i only started watching madoka like a day after yesy released ep 10 so never had to deal with that shiz before :x

Also I finally finished Aria after having sitting on it for like months, its really not something you can marathon at all. Some beautiful art, even if I did sometimes get irked just by the sheer lack of anything going on.

Hi anime club, I think I want to start talking with you. But first,

Do you people read manga? I searched for a club for it but it died in 07. After obtaining an iPad a few weeks ago I've read a few thousand chapters of stuff on it (I had a few days off with not very much happening, yeah). I checked out the anime adaptions of some of my favorite series but none of them seemed all that great. And the pace is often much slower, so I often find myself thinking I don't really have time for it. ...or does anyone know of an anime something that will just blow me away with its use of the animation format and prove me wrong?

I rarely read manga, although I've been trying to make an attempt to read some more. From the sound of it, I take it that you read a lot of shonen maybe? The reason their anime counter-parts have much slower pacing is because of preventing themselves(Studios, directors, screenplay writers) from reaching too close to where the original source is going with the story.

There are several original anime produced series that are incredible though. Just check out the likes of Gunbuster, Tatami Galaxy, Infinite Ryvius, Now and then- Here and There, Future Boy Conan, Flag, Takarajima(Well, maybe not since it's based off a novel, but eh) etc. Japanese animation isn't always necessarily dictated by a comic counter-part.

And there are some that are equal to or even superior over the manga version. Such as Rose of Versailles.

Hope that somewhat helps.

Yeah about half of what I read is shonen and adaptions of those are of course the worst offenders. I never really watched any anime that wasn't based on a manga (except maybe flcl).

I watched the Eve no Jikan movie the other day, not much over the OVA in terms of new material (although it's been a while since I saw the OVA so I could be wrong) but I appreciated what little was added, helped flesh out a couple of back stories.

Still I really enjoyed it and it really made me appreciate how lazy animators are in most anime I've seen. The camera swooping about, constantly moving, even in just minor ways, the absolutely impeccable lighting, I really loved the technical aspects. I hope there's a second OVA or something from it, it'd be a shame to throw away a premise brimming with such potential I feel but I'll have to wait and see.

Watched the first three episodes of Deadman Wonderland. It has a pretty interesting story line so far, but I find it rather annoying how lazy the animators where. In the first three episodes there have been multiple frames that literally stay up for a full second. Motion should be more fluid then that. It's going to ruin the whole series if they don't take it more seriously.

Really glad to see both FLCL and Death Note on Netflix instant play. Now all they need up there is Paranoia Agent and I'll have my top 3 favorite animes all in one convenient location.

Another good episode of Nichijou this week, I'm glad HS didn't forget to put subs on the video. Need to catch up on Steins;Gate, too.

Finished Phoenix Wright: Justice for All, and it was good. I had to use walkthroughs at some points in the game, but I still really enjoyed the game. Shit got really intense during the last case, but the lack of Larry was disappointing.

Ghost Trick is also pretty good (it was done by PW/AA's director, IIRC, too) and reminds me of LucasArts' old point-and-click games. Interesting gameplay (aside from the obvious PAC, I really like the 'ghost tricks' and puzzles) and great sprite animations/graphics for a DS game. It also has an enjoyable story.

also, happy belated birthday, Tom.

I think it shows a lot of potential honestly. It brings up a problem that we are currently trying to solve. A fairly large amount of money goes in to prisons while almost no money is produced. Privately owned juvenile detention already exists and they have a terrible reputation for exploiting kids for there parents money. There have been court documented cases where these detention centers would increase the amount of time a patient was supposed to stay for no reason other then increasing how much money there pulling in. Maybe not to the extent seen in the anime, but when you privatize a jail after a recent economical failure there will be a lot more corruption. Prisoners becoming slaves for our entertainment is not far-fetched at all. You try to dismiss it as bad instantly but it has a solid story line, and clear values portrayed in it. Its not the best show so far but it holds a lot of potential and it is already above average in my book. If your only interested in shows filled with giant boobs, and panty shots that get popular for giving preteens boners (e.g., bleach, hsod) you really shouldn't be here.

I think fanservice can be tasteful when used correctly; but I am referring to shows that are nothing but fanservice.

A judgement of your recent posts in other threads, your 'ignorance' to how many arguments there has been over streaming anime, and your selection of shows. There are constantly arguments about streaming vs. DDL/torrents. Most people don't like streamers because it doesn't give the anime a fair chance. Visual and auditory effects are rather important in anime; streaming rapes there quality. The shows you chose to bring up are also often regarded as highly overrated. Either you are ignorant or a troll. If you legitimately weren't aware then I apologize for assuming you where a troll.

I am not using ignorant as a insult

Nah I think paranoia agent is a pretty solid show and it doesn't get a lot of crap. Death note and FLCL get lots of crap though. IDK maybe i have been browsing /a/ to much recently whenever anyone mentions streaming anime there are 20 people bitching at the OP. I guess people dont really care much here eh?
Anyways lets just dismiss it as my late night ramblings and get on with some discussion. I have been considering watching Nichijou. There seems to be a lot of positivity toward it all over the place. I kinda wrote it off as some stupid lolicon shit when I saw a couple screenshots of it so never gave it a chance.
Anyways watched Girl Who Lept Through Time yesterday after putting it on the back burner for way to long. It was a great show. Its execution was almost flawless. The characters where all likable. The animation was really nice as well. Really have nothing negative to say about it other then the voice acting in the crying scenes kind of failed.
I also watched Black Rock Shooter yesterday. This OVA did a good job of setting up the characters but that is about it. You are left completely in the dark to what the battle scenes are till the very end of the show. Even the ending wasn't satisfying at all imo. There working on a second OVA atm so I look forward to seeing if they will be able to turn something thats extraordinarily average in to something I would actually enjoy seeing. So far it looks like the only reason it has gotten publicity is the almost naked loli's in the battle scenes.

Yup, I was ignorant in this situation (I'm definitely not one for trolling). I wasn't aware that streaming had a real bad rep, or that Death Note and FLCL get shit on a lot, as all I've ever seen for FLCL is praise... and I really enjoy both of the shows.

On a different note; I have been introduced to a few animes as of late via Netflix and just recently watched the first episode of a show called "Bacanno" with a friend. Very impressive art style and surprisingly brutal, though the first episode jumped around frequently and was a little hard to follow.
