really need to watch the evangelion movies at some point..

also just finished Level E

WHAT THE HELL

lmao

i cant decide whether i loved it or hated it. i either had my jaw wide open, a cheesy grin, or my worst FUUUUUUUUUUUUU face on for the entire series. The middle perhaps was a bit of a let down, but the first arc was great and even by the time I got to the last arc and I thought I knew all the tricks the show had to offer me, I was hit straight in the face by that ending. Absolutely hilarious, it certainly played me for a fool.

8.5/10

Yeah, it was awesome. My only complaint is that Mari seemed like she was sort of "just there" and felt out of place. Other than that, awesome movie. As always, the animation looked fantastic.

Yea Mari is pretty useless imo but I think they mostly put her in there so she could look sexy. If they actually make her a developed character in the next movie I will be astonished. I too like the twists in the Evangelion story line combined with sexy high budget animation ^_^

So I started watching Gurren Lagann on Netflix because it was there and I loved how when I went from episode 8 to the 'alleged' episode 9 Netflix decided to skip an all too important episode and completely spoil a major plot element. Now i'd be lying if I said I didn't already know that this plot twist was coming but I was still really annoyed by it.

So then I decided to watch an episode of Spice and the Wolf which was pretty neat and I will probably continue watching in the future.

Having finished watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, I decided to go back to Kemonozume, and have watched a little over half that series.

It's easily one of the most unique shows I've seen. Both stylistically, and tonally.

Also the most nudity-and-sex-filled animated show I've seen, which kinda makes me feel uncomfortable.

Wellll, A-Channel was disappointing. Not really worth the hype and all.

Run's a fucking retard, by the way, as well as Tooru.

Yuuko and Nagi are far better characters, but not enough to save this burning pile of shit.

Maybe it'll get better with the next episode, though I probably won't watch it anyway.

Finished off Kemonozume.

It was good and I enjoyed it.

The last few episodes is one of the strangest hours I've seen in a television show, but after seeing Mind Game I wasn't expecting anything less. It was a show that defied conventions from the start and it could never have been satisfied with a conventional ending.

I'd recommend it whole heartedly.

Fair enough, I've just started Kaiba, love the animation style (reminiscent of a lot of catoblepas' work in a way), although there were a few bits in the plot I didn't get until they were explained at the beginning of the next episodes. Still, a couple of genuinely touching moments, interested to see where it goes and if it picks up a more story led progression as it goes on rather than it's seemingly pretty episodic stuff atm.

That episode was fucking hilarious, and the hallway chase was AMAZING.

Also, I haven't looked to much into it, but it looks like there might be a Persona 4 anime/enhanced port (a la P3P):
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest /2011-04-09/mayonaka-tv-ad-runs-for-teas er-site

In the case of the former, I'm not sure what to expect. Trinity Soul was pretty bad, but maybe a different studio can handle it better.

Don't really care if it's a port, I've already beaten the game, and if I wanted to replay it, I'll just use my PS2.

What Macross show would you recommend for someone new to the series?

Haven't watched/read any of them.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross(aka, the original series). It's like a more laid back, cool brother of Gundam. Not quite as depressing and hopeless, even if there are conflicts and casualties. It's one of the most iconic anime series, and was one of the first to have a love triangle as a main plot point.

total classic.

Watched the first episode of Ore-tachi Ni Tsubasa wa Nai, I have no idea what the fuck is going on, and it doesn't take itself seriously at all. Panty shots and ridiculous conversations up the wazoo, it really made me laugh.

Response to Anime Club 2011-04-10 22:33:39

y'all ever watched Pani Poni Dash? It is kind of hilarious :-)

Also, as a female I know I should loathe this anime, but I loved Sekirei...except for the ending was left really open...

Also, an anime that I really loved until it fell flat on its face towards the end of its first season and really hardly in its second season...Vampire Knights.

Finished Kaiba, ended up marathoning it pretty much. Unsure about it. I enjoyed it, no doubt about that, but wasn't such a fan of the second half of it really.

[WARNING: MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS]
While the plot was neat, I didn't really get the relevance of Kaiba [the plant], where did it come from? Is it related to humans manipulating memories? Cheki appeared to regain her character at the end... how/why? Wha gwan? Wha gwan? What's the other warp doing? It says it shares his memories but I thought (as evidenced by neiro and hyo-hyo) that it would have different memories simply due to the fact it's different? How come kaiba, if he has the entire world's memories, didn't have his mothers?
I think they let off the plot too much in the first eps though, which led to the final four or five episodes being very heavy on plot, very reliant on flashbacks, and a bit too poorly paced for me/
[END MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS]

Still, I enjoyed it enough, and the third episode (with chroniko) was very touching, I thought. I'm glad that nearly all the characters were reasonably fleshed out, vanilla had a couple of very touching moments at the end... also absolutely adored the art. yeah
7/10. I think.

Also in case you guys missed it, puella magi madoka magica is airing (both eps 11 and 12) on the 21st april. One day after my dissertation deadline thank god!

Finished Berserk and Texhnolyze. The former was a more entertaining watch than the latter in a polarizing way. The same cannot be said for their endings, however, especially upon review of the latter's, which is almost Gilgamesh tier, and probably be equal to if I gave more of a damn throughout. As for Black Butler, I decided to hold off two and a half episodes in until I get a steadier supply of blu-ray's for it, and then replaced it with Revolutionary Girl Utena, whose ten remaining episodes will be sprinkled one at a time with this week's lineup: Claymore, Betterman and Bokurano.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back.

Man, I was wondering if they were going to do anything with it. P4 sold just as well as P3, and that got a bunch of spinoffs and an anime.

I prefered P4 anyway, so this I'm very excited for.

(I'm on windows 7 btw)
What media players do you guys use? I used to use SMPlayer but it's been pretty choppy for me lately so I decided to switch to the oft-harped on about Media Player Classic (with the CCCP)... I've got it set up fine with regards to subs and hotkeys and things, but it's not very good at scaling. My laptop's got a res of 1366x768, I'm trying to watch 720p and it's a bit rubbish. Subtitles and gradients look blocky and distracting, which is a shame since it runs notably smoother than smplayer.

Are there any magic settings I should have somewhere to make this stuff work? I've got all the video settings and things set to default at the moment.

You can see on the screencap the dodgy scaling on the edge of the telescope and also the subs.

I'm on OSX.

I used to use VLC, because that's what I used with Windows. But VLC tended to have a lot of trouble starting up (took ages, crashed, etc.), and stuttered a lot when playing high resolution video (in the 720p+ range).

So I downloaded a codec pack for QuickTime Player, and that works perfectly. No issues.

MPC with CCCP has worked fine for me over the course of several years. I have no clue what's up on your end, and I'm using W7 as well.

VLC for nearly everything by default, unless they're chaptered or chintz up constantly, which then go to MPC, while I use KMPlayer + CoreAVC for blu-rays, which I may as well recommend as a alternative.

MPC and CCCP, I get the odd anime with artifacts using that which I'll then use VLC to play. I've never come across anything that was broken in both players.

Yeah, me as well. I hope the cross-dressing contest gets animated (HELL YEAH, BROTAG AND TEDDIE WERE HOT), as well as the swimsuit scene that came before/after it.

Listening to soundtrack in anticipation.

To answer BBM's question about which player I use: mostly MPC+CCCP, occasionally VLC.

I asked on an anime forum and was told to apply some settings in MPC that work a treat, everything looks great now. Don't think I'll be going back to SMPlayer anytime soon, although it's irritating that the hotkey menu is a bit user unfriendly, but once they're set up fine I won't need to touch it again I suppose.

After reading the booklet that came with the movie, it mentions in her character profile that she's supposed to be mysterious. So, in other words, they're probably going to develope her more later on.

I still don't like the fact that she felt out of place though. It was almost as if none of the characters in the movie noticed she was there. You think after hijacking an Eva the other characters would say something like "Who the fuck is that?!".
