Currently i'm reading Berserk for the second time. Good example of a series where the manga version is far superior to the anime version.

Where do you read manga online?

I go to Onemanga, but Berserk is suspended there so I can't read it. I was interested though.

I used to watch a lot more anime but now I always read the manga alternative if there is one

Things like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and other anime that don't have a manga counterpart I do watch.

Though don't think I'm an anime buff because I have watched all of three episodes of Bebop and maybe 7 with GITS.

I did enjoy Wolf's Rain and Saiyuki (I think that's what it was called) when I had on demand.

what the fuck.

Finish that shit. Those two are among the best anime ever.

In fact, I can't believe you could watch the first three episodes of Cowboy Bebop and not be extremely compelled to watch the rest.

Also, Cowboy Bebop and GITS do in fact have manga counterparts. I think the bebop manga came after the anime, but I'm pretty sure the GITS manga came first.

Actually I watched maybe three or four at random points in the story

The only one I remember is Mad Pierrot

Response to Anime Club 2010-05-19 19:18:26

ah, well, you really should watch them. They're like the best ever.

And Mad Pierrot is one of my favorite episodes. That shit was awesome.

Brotherhood is obviously different from the original Anime because this time it's actually based on the Manga.

I actually prefer the Manga's plot line to the original anime but I haven't seen Brotherhood yet, and most of the first few episodes are bound to be virtually the same.

Oh hell yes it was. I love the music for him based off of carnival music but with a deranged feel to it. I think the aristocrats in Demon's Souls were based off of his appearance because they are strikingly familiar to one another.

Indeed. I think there are only six episodes left. Chomping at the bit for the next episode.

I thought that too when i saw the episode again by chance on Adult Swim. I want to see more of the show, I just don't really remember to look into it, nor do I really have the time or privacy to do it online.

Is the Battle Royale manga as good as the movie? I remember hearing someone mention that it focuses on being as shocking as possible rather than storytelling.

My problem with the Battle Royale manga is the english translation. Keith Giffen, the guy who translated it, kind of screwed it up because he turned it into a reality show instead of a game created by the government, and some of the dialogue he writes is kind of strange. I'd like to read a version that was more faithful to the original japanese version.
It has much more violence and sexual content than the film, but it's actually more faithful to the Book than the film version, and the man who wrote the book Battle Royale has a high appreciation for this manga.

Battle Royale in general is over-rated, the movie, the manga, the book; they might as well call it Lord of The Flies with guns, and I did not like Lord of The Flies to begin with. Watch better Jappo films kids. I swear, each time I watch Battle Royale, it just gets lamer.

Also, finished Spice & Wolf. I liked it.

Yeah, except the points they are trying to make are completely different.

And they're, uh, completely different in terms of storyline. The only similarities being that they both involve young people on an island.

Also, Lord of the Flies is great.

I assume you're referring to my comments on Battle Royale. I stand by them. I've seen Battle Royale 3 times. The first time I thought it was great, the second time was pretty much the same, although I noticed that the characters were rather unappealing but the third time I noticed that the story is really just what I said it was, Lord of the Flies with guns (or rather weapons). It's an interesting concept, however a concept carries little weight when the story is virtually just: Japan faces economic turmoil so fucking bad the world suffers and jobs are lost and kids become disenfranchised with school so Japan says: "Fuck these little shits, lets give them a harsh lesson in Social Darwinism." That was a good build up, however the characters do not really give me anything to relate with and the story does a piss poor job of going beyond: "These kids are on an island, they are going to die. 30 men enter only one man leaves." Can't we get beyond Thunderdome? And I did enjoy Battle Royale as a film, the manga was kind of stupid. However, I see no basis as to why this movie garners the praise that it does by a few directors who has a fetish for it (looking at you Tarantino). Plus if I am going to watch a vastly popular J-Horror film I dunno, I guess I'd go with Audition as there is a really good story there.

I still haven't seen the other FMA series, other than an episode or two, plus some bits and pieces of other episodes. There's one episode I always seem to catch at the beginning, and that's the one with that false prophet using alchemy to fool people in to thinking he can perform miracles. I've seen that one like 3 or 4 times.

I happen to have recently re-watched Battle Royale and I didn't like it as much as I used to.

yes. And that one track from the ost, I think it's just called "Eye", always puts the vivid image in my mind of his intense eyes glaring at me. I love the Cowboy Bebop OST. It's actually one of my all time favorite albums of any genre. a couple of my favorites are soundtracks.

I finally finished watching both seasons of Darker Than Black, both of which were incredible. I wasn't sure what to expect of the second season since it made some significant changes to the series, but I soon found it nearly as good as the first. Apparently another OVA is supposed to come out on the 26th, so hopefully someone will make a subtitled version shortly after it's released. Also, I can't wait for the third season, assuming that there will be one.

Anyway, I decided to start watching Cowboy Bebop since it's supposed to be one of the best animes ever made. I just finished watching the first episode and so far it seems like a great show. I also really like the intro, it has an extremely energetic and catchy feel to it.
