I've only watched the movie, which I loved, but I heard the manga wasn't very good. Apparently it's extremely gory compared to the movie. Also, I'd like to read the book some day, assuming I'll be able to find it.

The manga, english translation specifically, has some flaws. Keith Giffen really fucked up in some parts, mainly how in his version Battle Royale is a reality show on TV.. Still a game of death ran by the government, but a fucking reality show. This also generates many plotholes. I also don't like some of the dialogue. I really wish i could read the japanese version.
Still, its not bad, and in many aspects is better than the film. The backgrounds and personalities of every character are explained well, unlike in the movie where only some characters are explained.
For example, The psycho guy who volunteers for the game in the movie, Kazuo Kiriyama, is much more interesting in the manga. He is actually on the class instead of being an exchange student. They explain why he is the way he is, and has a lot more depth.
Also, it is much gorier than the movie, and it also has some nudity and sex.
Overall, its definitely worth reading, i read it the first time last year, and this year i read it again. One of my favorite mangas, even though the translation could be better.

You guys are lucky that you have a dedicated internet connection. I have to download my stuff from someone else's wifi. I don't even know where they live so I have no idea where I'm getting it from.

I like to watch shows at a leisurely rate so that I don't finish them in a few days. I've been watching Speed Racer for almost a week but at about 2-3 episodes a day I'm only on episode 15 out of 42. Now this show is ridiculous and good. Sure the acting is quite laughable but it still is enjoyable to watch.

Around here we like to keep the piracy issue either assumed, or more subtly hinted too. Not blatantly appearing in several posts in a row.

I fail to see how anyone can have problems finding the Battle Royale novel. I see that thing everywhere I go. I'm pretty sure I owned three copies of it at one point because I kept forgetting that I already had it. I mean damn, I even saw copies of that book in Iraq. In Okinawa I saw it in english and japanese. That shit's on sale at my local barnes and noble. Homeless people use it to make forts, and as ammunition over who gets what shaded spot.

I may have been reading too much Deadpool lately.

You know what you peoples problem is? You don't live in California. Fix that.

So my internet got turned back on and I got mind game. It was a great movie but I really thought the way they used real video with animation over it at some points was done poorly also there where scenes that the animation lacked. I really liked the story I just think if the put a little more resources into it it would be epic.

Really, I never relised it was that easy to find. I always thought that most book stores wouldn't stock it because it wasn't very well known in Canada. Oh well, I guess I have no excuss not to buy it now.

I've never watched Serial Experiment Lain, but I have watched FLCL. I was extremely dissapointed by it. Everyone said it was supposed to be amazing, but I honestly thought it was pretty terrible. I honestly had to force myself to finish watching it, which is pretty bad considering that the series is extremely short.

And I'm STILL waiting for Viz to cough up Kirarin Revolution; they've been sitting on it for years in the style of Miramax Films.

Have you ever played the PS2 game? It's pretty solid but the camera angles can mess with you and it's buggy at times.

What didn't you like about Gungrave?

~

Watched Mushishi a while back and found it to be great. Follows the manga to the T and reminded me to finish the manga when I get a chance. Thoughts?

Hey Wonko. You still on active duty or are you back for a while?

You should watch love hina I used to read the manga years ago it was okay but by your selection you would like it. Death Note is a good one. Bakemonogatari is a good violent anime with hot women also blood +. If you also like manga read elfen lied and highschool of the dead.

haven't played it. been interested, though.

What didn't you like about Gungrave?

I found it hokey, goofy, not in a charming way. It just rubbed me the wrong way. And for a show that comes off as so action packed and littered with bodies, it really, really shies away from blood. I kept seeing basically the same shot, pointing gun up close (somtimes waiting like 2 minutes to build up TENSION), cut away, gunshot sound. I got tired of seeing this scene. There were some parts I thought were kinda cool, but I felt that so many things were poorly executed. I didn't think the show was exactly bad, just not so good. I don't really know what to tell you. I just didn't care that much for this show.

and freaking Blood War. man. fuck that guy.

Watching it dubbed didn't help, either. Brandon's voice actor got pretty annoying, specifically when narrating. He was fine as Jin in Samurai Champloo, but I think he did poorly as Brandon. I started to hate hearing his voice. also, fucking Lex Lang. not liking this guy. my fault for not switching to sub. And am I crazy, or did I hear Tony Oliver play like 10 different people, if even just extras and bit parts aside from Harry? I could have sworn...Not that I don't like Oliver. I love him as Lupin.

Also, what kind of name is Millennion? Did they mistake the word millennium? Is there an explanation for this name? I'm curious. speaking of names...Beyond the Grave. What a lame name. should have went with just Grave. It would have been more, you know, name-like. They call him that for short, anyway.
