been watching Gungrave. was alright for a while, then this "Blood War" fruitcake showed up and shit got kind of lame. Maybe it'll be better now that he and his friend are gone.

I'm in. Persona 3 has been an obsession for a week now. Almost done with first game, I'm in mid december. How much more does FES have than the regular game?

Well hello gentlemen, I was a bit bored and decided to join on in. I like most anime that I watch, I typically don't really hate any shows for some strange reason. While I know a lot of series, I tend to be slow when it comes to actually watching them.

Favorites:

1. Cromartie High School
2. Dragonball
3. GTO
4. Gintama
5. Bamboo Blade

I just bought the game a few days ago, and so far I'm loving it.

Anyway, there are thirty extra hours added to the game. After you finish The Journey, you get to play through The Answer, which is where the extra thirty hours are.

I guess you have to look at it from a business point of view. The general movie watcher is most likely uninterested in anime, so they would have to change the movie to be more appealing to Americans. I'm not saying that I agree with the doing this, but I can understand why they would. I do find it pretty pathetic that the average person needs everything to be "Americanized" in order for them to like it.

Anyway, I'm sure the original Japanese version wont be too hard to get a hold of.

I beg to differ.
The main mission statement of the dubbing industry is to cut off Americans' access to foreign films and force us to watch their crappy edited-beyond-the-point-of-recognition versions.
It's policies like these that are the main driving force behind the continuation of piracy.
If companies want to stop people from pirating movies, TV, video games and what-not, they should stop butchering them and allow us to legitimately view the original content. Simple, huh?

In Bakemonogatari it is interesting how they incorporate real photos into it. I have never seen it done before.

Piracy is a symptom of commodity fetishism; we're supposed to define our existance with what we buy, but because we can't afford everything, we cut corners, some buy bootlegged brand clothes, shoplift, or pirate music and movies, and use the money saved for other stuff.

I checked up on Google Images to get an idea of what you were talking about, but was just hit with a bunch of panty shots.

I really hate that aspect of anime, and I'm guessing would probably hate the series accordingly.

With regards to incorporating real photos into anime, you should check out Mind Game.

One of the most amazing pieces of animation I have ever seen.

Sometimes I watch animation and think "man, animation is such a flexible medium for film, why aren't people using it in a more experimental way?"

And then I think of Mind Game.

I don't know how to go about joining but I've been watching this shit for years now and the main reason is that American can never seem to put out anything with a decent plot and characters that I can relate to. I like anime a lot I guess.

1. Mobile Suit Gundam (original)
2. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (also pretty good)
3. Outlaw Star (just love the intro song)
4. Excel Saga (I have no idea what is going on but I like it)
5. Chobits (nothing like what I expected)

I tend to watch several series at the same time. One I'm watching right now is the original speed racer which is ridiculous. The races are super violent, with cars flying all over the place and blowing up, Speed jumping off a speeding motorcycle and doing nothing not even a stumble, and how that A button's thing actually works.

Anyway, I watched the original Ghost in the Shell movie, pretty good.. but, uh.. I don't get it. Oshii, please explain.

I'm almost done with Kaleido Star and am considering Wedding Peach next (if it's still available in stores).
I've seen bits and pieces of different mecha and action anime and didn't care for them. Trigun bored me and I never could get into any of the Gundam series. I didn't care for Azumanga Daioh, either.
I might watch Hayate the Combat Butler soon, just to try it.
Any suggestions?

Oh god, that movie was so slow and boring, I still watched it here is what I got from it.

*Spoilers*
The group were trying to locate some super hacker or computer who was stealing info or something. Mind you, it's been a while since I saw it. Well the captain is eventually led to where he is and she tries to capture him. She is pretty much destroyed then the guy tries to merge his brain with hers in an attempt to live on. Well something happens then she ends up as a loli.

I would never suggest that movie to anyone mainly because of the slow progression of the story, and I watched 2001 A Space Odyssey in one sitting.

I finished Excel Saga, and watched the Episode 26 with my friend, we laughed the whole time. It was ridiculous.

apples and oranges...

For Ghost in the Shell (I'm only guessing you're talking about Oshii's movie), well, watch the rest of the GITS titles. The tv show has two seasons and there's GITS 2: Innocence and Solid State Society. I think it's all awesome. Beyond that, I dunno. Ergo Proxy, maybe. There are others that might be labelled "cerebral" and also "dark" like Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, Akira, Texhnolyze, and Boogiepop Phantom, which are all great.

If you liked Elfen Lied...well, come on. You're looking for blood and tits, right? Gantz might be for you, or maybe Basilisk. Who am I kidding? They're for you. I don't think they're very good, but whatever. Wicked City, and Blood: the Last Vampire would be a bit better.

For something better than any of those, try the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs, Berserk, Afro Samurai, Battle Angel, Golgo 13, Crying Freeman, even Ninja Scroll. I don't care what anyone says, Ninja Scroll is a fun watch, especially if you used to watch it back in the day. Baoh is a fun short one. I've only seen the first Violence Jack, but that was pretty entertaining. And Mad Bull 34 is alright for a while. These will have your blood and/or tits.

I've only watched the movie, which I loved, but I heard the manga wasn't very good. Apparently it's extremely gory compared to the movie. Also, I'd like to read the book some day, assuming I'll be able to find it.

At 8/10/09 02:48 AM, RocketBean wrote: 1. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Its the only anime I watch nowadays)

A good show, but the fanbase is pretty annoying. I've skipped the last few episodes because of that stupid Endless Eight arc, but it's over now so I'll be watching it again. I still can't believe the creators thought doing that would be a good idea, it was pretty funny to watch people freak out about it though.

3. Death Note (I prefer the manga though)

I loved the manga, but the anime had way too much foreshadowing. They made it so you knew what was always going to happen, which ruined the point of the series.
