I guess Afro was good it had some moments like when they were fighting for number 2 head band. still the ending was great were Afro shows that he is NUMBER 1 and doesn't give a shit about other challengers. oh and the fight between Afro and 2 guys with spades was interesting :) still one think that's always good is the soundtrack

I've been watching Lain. It's quite an interesting show. I'm up to the last volume, but my friend is over, so I'll wait.

Sup? I've been checking out the Rosario + Vampire series as a whole, The Zero No Tsukaima series, Toradora which is almost exactly like the Zero No Tsukaima series without magic. Vampire Knight as a whole and others. Not a bad year.

Hey guise, haven't visited this thread for a while, not that you will know me anyway.

I'm watching FMP now, and I don't understand what the whole hype is for.
Two more episodes and I'm done with the series.

I guess it's not too bad, and I actually do realize that the 2nd series is considered to be better.

Since we're on a roll of discussing horribly mediocre shows, I watched the first episodes of The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya and Nyoron Churuya-san today.

Both are pretty looking and awfully unsubstantial (much like the series that inspired them), but Churuya-san gets slightly more points in my book since the episodes are half the length and not making some kind of attempt at a plot. For a slightly longer than two minute show about discussing fine cheese and why you can or cannot obtain it, it's almost watchable.

I also rewatched the first few episodes of Black Lagoon and now I remembered why it was so brilliant. When all the weighty pretentious nonsense is stripped away, it's a really great action series with badass gunfights and snappy one-liners.

Black Lagoon was ok. I've been checking out Linebarells Of Iron. Wasn't bad.

Modern mecha is really dire.

GONZO in general just needs to stop making anime, frankly. But hey, that could very well happen any day now given how notoriously unprofitable they are and all the restructuring they've been trying to do for the past few years.

Gonzo has been firing over 100 people.
Talking about quitting.

Well, Gonzo adapted one of my most favorite mangas. Basilisk, and even added more depth to the characters in the manga, so I give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, I'm not too fond of Mecha Anime, but the main character was somewhat a breath of fresh air. Conceited ass at first, but slowly starts to learn from his mistakes.

That's a massive mecha cliche.

Not a damn thing refreshing about that.

Mushi-Shi - Surprisingly good, I really like it though it is starting to get repetitive the whole concept is still entertaining.

Given that it's one of the biggest critical darlings in modern anime, I can't really say it's surprising that Mushi-shi is good, but yeah, the concept indeed withstands the repetition.

And Ginko's just plain awesome.

GetBackers - I am extremely ashamed that I own this and actually finished it.......... anybody want it?

I dunno, it does look pretty atrocious...

Not because I watch TV often, but I have by mistake caught myself finding and watching Samurai Champloo on it a couple of times..

I judge everything, I find most things incredibly pointless and i'm generally a sadistic + sarcastic bitch so sorry if I come off as unfriendly, i'm just really easy to piss off.

When it comes to anime I love mysteries and animes where I have to think.

I'm not going to lie, I haven't watched any new animes in about a year but i've been meaning to start watching anime again.

Which leads into a question, what animes do you guys recommend? I really like animes that are more 'intelligent' or philosophical and I love having to think about it afterwards and digest it.

Basically what are some animes with good plotlines that make me think and that are full of plot twists and turns?

I like action, gore, horror, romance, etc. and every other genre in anime you can think of more or less, it just needs to have a good plot and twists.

Kaiji, Akagi, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

True. Nothing new under the sun. But Cliche has a very specific, negative meaning, and people should stop throwing it around.

Serial Experiments Lain might be a good pick, otherwise, Gendo made a bitchin' list. Steer clear of Elfen Lied and Gantz, Death Note is ambivalent.

Oh, and Boku no Pico.

I would enjoy joining. I am a fan of both Anime and what we would consider "traditional" cartoons.
It is unfortunate that so many good Anime's are no longer available on DVD, at least for a reasonable price. Still I have quite a collection of Anime DVD's. I wonder, do any of you remember "The Little Koala Show," that used to be on Nick Junior? I do believe there was one other show they had on, about a girl who had two Koala's that would grant her wishes...

Watched Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence last night for the first time in years. Totally fucking astounding, some of the most gorgeous animation I've ever seen.

Now I'm watching Gunbuster, and thus far it has majorly exceeded my expectations.

I watched and completed Detroit Metal City in one go. Holy fucking shit, this show is the best anime of 08, and has the most epic and delicious moments I've seen. Including the epic that was Krauser raiding a kids play and went totally batshit, and the godlike Fist of the North Star reference.

Man what an amazing show. Now back to the Grimdark Gundam shows.
